Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Totally forgot about a potential slingshot! Wouldn't be a surprise if we got one rather quickly.

Ugh, do we really need a slingshot? I mean the rip cord does just fine. I feel like a slingshot at VF would turn out to be a total flop like Skyscraper if anyone remembers that.

Pendulum (I think Zamperla was discussed?)

Super loop (eh, why not )

I hope you're kidding about super loops. Just hit up the state fair in the fall to get your fix

I think the sling shot rule could also apply here? Just wait until the state fair to get your slingshot fix

Lagoon has had their Funtime Sling Shot for 13 Years and Still gets a Line at $20 a Launch.

I just read this on "newsplusnotes" website. I looked through the new Cedar Fair website and couldn't find anything specific about Valleyfair that is recent but newsplusnotes reporting is spot-on. I'm guessing they found some other media release from Cedar Fair to draw this from. Having said that, this just reinforces the previous statements from Cedar Fair about Valleyfair. The quote is under the heading of "Cedar Fair setting a goal of reaching $500 million EBIDTA by 2018. The investors report did say they are ahead of that goal already which is good news. In order to achieve that goal Cedar Fair had a list that included the following Here it is;

Maximizing the parks existing potential. The company is quite pleased with the decision to invest heavily in Carowinds, based off of early season reaction to Fury 325 and other changes. Valleyfair is again mentioned as a growing market, and the success of working on Knott's branding with "modest" capital expansions has been a home run.

I really do believe that Valleyfair is next on the list to get "Carowinds style" upgrades. How much money is going to be spent? No idea! But I'm sure not many people would have guessed two years ago that Cedar Fair would be spending $50 million on Carowinds. I've been to Carowinds and sure its a nice park but before they built Fury 325 I would have preferred Valleyfair for an overall "Best Day Ever" experience. Of course Carowinds has some top notch coasters but I'm really talking about the overall experience. But just as Cedar Fair recognized that Carowinds needed some much needed TLC, I think that now they will begin to turn their attention to Valleyfair for the much needed TLC. Just my opinion, how about others opinions?

The fair doesn't have a slingshot nearly as big (or non-sketch looking) as any of the park models.

Superloops do not belong in any nice amusement park. They are ghetto to the core, and don't provide a particularly good experience.

Sling shots are a more intense experience, and are entertaining for spectators as well as riders. There's a reason they're priced at a premium whether you're at a fair or a park.

With Valleyfair's limited space and flood challenges, it will be extremely interesting to see what moves are made for the park to grow. Cedar Fair may pour a substantial amount of money into a berm for the whole property, which would allow the park to grow within its current plots and eliminate any possibility of mid-season flooding closing rides.

Or they may just accept that limitation and develop in ways I can't imagine right now. But I don't know if our investment will hit Carowinds levels...It sounds like they are comparing us to Knotts as well, with its limited but highly strategic investments. Knotts has even more space issues than we do!

The park owns plenty of land, however most of it is located in the flood plain (everything above the blue-white line). I'm not so sure building a new flood berm around the park would be worth it because mid-season flooding is quite rare. Flooding usually happens in early spring and recedes before the park opens for the season, although I don't think the river flooded at all this year because of the mild winter. Until mid-season flooding becomes a normal thing, I think they're fine for now.

I'll believe it when I see it, until then it is all talk and speculation about being a 'growth' park. The water slide package looks nice and it is bigger than the past two slide packages put in at other CF parks so that gives me some hope. But on the other hand, even after putting in this slide package it is still the weakest water park in the CF chain. We will see what they put in for the next phase of the water park expansion and if they add a new coaster in the next 2-3 years. This will indicate if VF is truly a growth park as they claim it is.

What is on corkscrews hill after the loop?

That's a really good question... I don't even know what it looks like it could be.

It's nothing.... you're just seeing the pull-out of the helix behind it. With the glare it looks like it's overlapping, but it's not.

Parks always use wrong pictures for things, and it never means anything.

Ah yes, I see it now.

I think it's a great concept and I want to see the ride have a dark ride element--maybe an enclosed lift hill, themed station and queue too. Would love to see Cedar Fair approach Busch or Universal levels of ride story immersion (Disney is just too much to hope for, especially without established intellectual property to go off of). It would really help bring Cedar Point to the next level as dark rides are the only thing they lack...and it would still be a great coaster!

But it could be just another scream machine, that's cool too

What happens at other parks does have a ripple effect right to Valleyfair. It really can give us an impression of where the company is going and what to hope for next.

Cedar Point does lack one other must have according to enthusiasts: RMC. But sorry, this is the VF thread.

I'm 99.99% sure the rumor was false, I have been at the park a couple of times in this past offseason and I have seen no pieces that would suggest a slingshot will be built.

Now that they've put in more landscaping, it looks like the construction phase of the waterpark expansion is finished. Pretty impressive how far they've come since October.

From GM Dave's twitter account. New landscaping and paint for Soak City. If you look at the live webcam of the construction it looks like they are all done laying new grass too. Getting closer to complete.
