Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The sign is very bright and highly visible and it goes with the whole switchover to LED. The park is reducing its electric bill, which means more money for other things. I wonder when they're going to get the lighting on Wild Thing's lift and Power Tower switched too...

But so far this off-season:

6 thrilling new waterslides

Second splash station

New sign

Tracking on High Roller

Painting Corkscrew's trains

New retaining wall and tree removal in the old half of the waterpark (prepping for its makeover)

New brick path from Planet Snoopy to Renegade area

New vendors (Rita's Ice) and new stall locations

And who knows what else they've done? So far it's been a very productive off season!

I agree. Valleyfair has made several good general improvements this offseason and the 2013-14 offseason which leads me to believe the park could be preparing for something relatively big in the near future, though I still don't think we will see a new coaster until at least 2017.

On a side note, do any of you think they might eventually put something in this grassy field to the right of Corkscrew's exit. I think it would be the perfect spot for Larson Flying Scooters because there used to be flying scooters in that general vicinity in the park's early days, and with several other CF parks getting them, it's certainly a possibility.

On a side note, do any of you think they might eventually put something in this green grassy field to the right of Corkscrew's exit. I think it would be the perfect spot for Larson Flying Scooters because there used to be flying scooters in that general vicinity in the park's early days, and with several other CF parks getting them, it's certainly a possibility.

I think flying scooters would be good for a route 76 or planet snoopy expansion. They could relocate the bathrooms from near the HR turnaround to the corkscrew field. Then expand the park, or build a new coaster station, or whatever in the area where those bathrooms used to be.

Does anyone know what the front gate ticket price was last year? I know its $47 this year but I want to know if there was an increase from last year. I never really pay attention because I always have a gold pass

I believe general admission last year was $44.99. On another note, any updates on the potential event garyman?

I hope they don't keep increasing the gate price too much until they get a new coaster, I know a lot of people who think its way too overpriced but I suppose with the waterpark expansion this year we will see how it goes.

People always moan "overpriced" when anything goes up. The thing is, if it did actually have an effect on attendance, they probably wouldn't still be raising it each year. Factor in the big slide tower that's just been built, and I think the raise is probably justified.

Also, I can't remember the last time I ever paid the walk-up gate price at any park. Buying online or with coupons from random stores is always substantially less expensive. Plus season passes are still very reasonable.

This may be a bit of a stretch, but is it strange that the title of the blog entry about the new sign is "Changing of the Guard"? Maybe a subtle hint at a "Centurion"?

No.

Interesting theory, although after doing a little research, I don't see how "Changing of the Guard" could tie in to the rumored Centurion coaster.

I'm pretty sure "Changing of the Guard" refers to the way the sign guards the entrance, and how they're changing the sign.

Don't overthink it.

Whatever VF's eventual coaster will be, it's probably not going to be called Centurion. That's what CF had originally planned on calling Fury 325, but they weren't allowed to use that name for some reason (my guess is copyright reasons).

I think it was more like the Banshee thing. It was supposed to be used on Mantis, got shelved, and like a decade later it's in Kings Island. I suspect it will pop up in the chain in the future. I think they went with Fury for marketing purposes (#Furyfever and all that).

But with that same point, where is the marketing potential for a name like Centurion? It conjures images of soldiers and fortifications...I just arrived at the consensus point...it is a stupid name...nevermind lol

I think I could see Centurion being named a dark ride. Not necessarily for VF, but if Cedar Fair is planning on bringing dark rides to all their parks, Centurion could be a dark ride with a roman theme. But no signs point to the name being used anytime soon.

Based on the work they've done in this area, I'm predicting that there will a new waterpark entrance at that corner because I can't understand why you'd design the path like that and then fence it off.

Excalibur is closing September 14 according to the website. I have a feeling they will

A. Rmc it maybe

B. Add an invert.

C. New flat ride and or little "section".

Hurms...

If I remember correctly, doesn't Excalibur close before ValleyScare every year? I don't think it means anything.

Yeah, it always closes before haunt.

Thunder Canyon's probably also closing then, if not earlier.
