Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

I still think a B&M invert is more likely than an SLC because even though Cedar Fair did directly purchase CP's Woodstock Express and WOF's Boomerang, those rides were bought in 1999 and 2000 respectively, and Cedar Fair probably realized that Vekoma's coasters are inferior to other models (for the most part). If Valleyfair got an SLC with the newer trains, then it might be okay, but I think an invert is more likely right now.

Valleyfair is also on the cusp of becoming a major park. With the growth of the Twin Cities, demand on the park for bigger and better things is increasing.

We already have had major upgrades in the past few years...an exciting wooden coaster, a great Planet Snoopy--larger than Cedar Point's--the removal of upcharge attractions to make way for more regular no-charge rides and upgraded catering facilities, a waterpark essentially doubling in size this year, a multimillion-dollar educational animatronic walkthrough for the schools to use as an excuse, and the mystery of the parking lot cones to top it off.

The park is poised for extensive and exciting future development, no doubt about it.

Could the cones in the parking lot have been outlining the site of a potential new amphitheater, one further from the noise of loud rollercoasters?

I don't think a new amphitheater is a necessity becauase there are several other decent spaces in the park for live entertainment. valleyfairfanatic said a while back that the rumor among employees is that the parking lot cones are where a new ride(s) could possibly go. Of course, it's just a rumor, but it seems like the logical place to put in something major without removing any other attractions.

The same goes for the amphitheater space, doesn't it? It seems like a lot of Cedar Fair parks have their amphitheaters adjacent to the entrance or shoved in a far corner away from the biggest rides that make the most noise. Wasn't noise from Wild Thing part of the reason the current amphitheater is no longer in use? Building a new one on the opposite side of the park makes sense in that regard. The current amphitheater site would be great to create a coaster-tangle effect with Wild Thing's swooping helices.

I believe it was both Wild Thing's loud mid-course brakes and being out of code that led to the amphitheater's demise, although I really can't blame them for those noise problem because before Wild Thing was built, they probably had no idea that the MCBR would be so loud (after all, it was Morgan's first coaster). A coaster in that spot that would interact with Wild Thing is actually a neat idea, just not sure how it would work.

The problem with an amphitheater being along the dinos alive fence is again, the noise. Surprisingly the animatronics are quite loud, and you can hear them quite clearly from outside the gate (I would sweep along that whole fence a lot). I think if they do use that land the cones were outlining it will be for some kind of ride, since it is no coincidence that the cones almost perfectly bordered the flood plain lines. Btw, I have been contacted and will be working another season at valleyfair!

Hey, did anyone else see the video footage on Screamscape of the accident on a Vekoma Boomerang at Fanstailandia in Santiago Chili? Fortunately, no one was killed but there were injuries. What looks like happened is, on the backwards part of the trip the rear car of the train broke away from the rest of the train. The rear car continued to finish the ride but the rest of the train did not. The accident happened right at the boomerang element. The rest of the train stopped between the loop and the boomerang. It looks like some of the cars derailed and the force of it caused the rear car to break away and completed the boomerang element. Pretty scary. Just more reason why we do not want a Boomerang coaster or really any Vekoma coaster!

I really don't think an isolated incident at one park (on a ride model that has been operating all over the world for years) can be used to say that everything from a particular manufacturer is dangerous.

True, but I haven't heard a lot of good with Vekoma coasters.

Have you ever been on one? A handful of slc's are fun, flying dutchmans are fun, inverted boomerangs are fun, GIB are amazing!

SLCs have great layouts honestly, and the trains have been getting tweaked and redesigned for comfort for years. A new SLC should be miles better than the old ones.

The Flying Dutchmans are great--not B&M great, but great nonetheless. I've ridden Batwing, it's thrilling. If anything, poor maintenance on the part of Six Flags is the problem, not the design of the ride.

I don't think Valleyfair would get an SLC since they could have easily received Geauga Lake's at the time of its closing instead of it being shipped to Michigan's Adventure. It was one of the better Vekoma SLCs when it was here in Ohio but not sure how it is when rebuilt in Muskegon.

It wont happen anyways, Cedar fair hasn't bought from them in the past, so I doubt they will now. But they did buy from togo so I guess you never know though hahahaha

Cedar Fair has never bought a TOGO. They were all acquired through the Paramount buyout.

I didn't find it that terrible at Geauga Lake, either, but I feel it's much rougher now at Michigan's Adventure.

I thought Windjammer Surf Racers at Knotts was bought by CF, I could easily be wrong though lol
