Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The difference is people actually go to MSP to visit MOA. It's a destination. VF on the other hand is a diversion if you have time. No one goes to MSP specifically to visit VF and nothing else in town.

The fact is if Valleyfair got taxis and drove people to Valleyfair that would bring in money, we can't go off saying that they don't go to VF. The reason they don't is because do you think they know about VF?!? They know about a small amusement park called NU? So how don't they know one that's bigger but 15-25 more minutes away? We could easily score those people away from NU. The only reason people go to MOA is that in MN we don't have clothes tax! They save a ton! So what the heck! It would be easy to bring in people by a Valleyfair taxi or bus. How do Casinos do it?

^Don't worry about it then, honestly.

Can I shoot straight with you? I have an 11 year old son, so not much younger than you. He too loves coasters, though he hasn't taken to posting online in forums about them yet. I'll tell you the same thing I would tell him... Navigating the waters of posting in coaster enthusiast forums can be cutthroat at times, and you really need to have a thick skin sometimes. Not everybody is going to agree with everything you say or think, and there's the simple fact that the longer one has been around, the more they realize how things go. So, if you post things which seem hopelessly idealistic, or uninformed, some people will jump on that and talk you down. There's nothing wrong with what you're doing, but I think you push some of this too hard, and too far. If there is a topic, or idea that is clearly being met with an unfavorable response, you might want to just let it go. I've learned about this over the years of posting on enthusiast sites, and there are certain topics I tread very lightly on now, because my opinion is not popular. It's part of the learning curve with these things.

Also, I am seeing certain concepts being discussed by others, that you are not seeming to grasp (such as why a place like NU is more popular than VF - hint: it's not because of NU itself), yet you continue to try and discuss them without understanding them. That's always going to end poorly... I suggest trying to understand the principles behind why people are disagreeing with your assessment, before trying to refute them. You will learn something, and learning is always a win, but you will also be more respected on the forums, in spite of your age. Just because you are young, doesn't mean you are any less capable of being an excellent poster here, and I would encourage you not to stop, if this is something you're passionate about! It's just about being adaptable, and willing to learn. Along those lines, I would suggest you not put "YOUNG POSTER MADE" on all your posts, as that fact shouldn't define you, or your posts. You have your age under your info, so we can see you are one of our younger members. Be confident in your posts, but not cocky. Assertive, but also adaptable.

I'm just trying to help you out, because as much fun as it may be for some of us (guilty) to make little quips at your expense, taking the time to explain things in a patient and understanding way is always a better route to go. Hopefully, this advice is well received, and you can utilize it to become an even better poster going forward!

Are you daft? He mentioned the parks that received the largest additions this year.

Partly my point! But i dont think your accurate. Soak city expansion was about 7 mil. C. W. And K. D. Both got large waterpark expansions. C.G.A. got planet Snoopy. Valleyfair's planet Snoopy was 9 mil. Dont forget C. P. got rougarou which wasnt cheap. The largest additions will not always translate into higher revenue. But it was partly my point when taken in light of valleyfair being earmarked for significant expansion.

by the way, what is daft?

What is wrong with mere speculation? It's not like garyman is being unrealistic, and it's not like he's saying we're for sure getting a coaster. He's just saying it's a step in the right direction. If you don't like listening to people "foam" if that is what you want to call speculation and hopefulness, why are you still posting in this forum? Anyways, to me it doesn't seem like anything major is going to happen for 2016. I would think if Excalibur is to be torn down this year we would have seen survey markings and at least an announcement. My guess is a general improvement year with new food locations and possible a small flat ride such as a larson flyers.

I wouldn't say that is a justified word to describe what garyman is doing

Phantom, lighten up.

I got my first rides of the season at night on Renegade this weekend. Very cool at night time back in the woods. Anyone who rides Renegade at night you might want to cover your mouth there's a chance a bug might attack you LOL. Renegade at night seems a lot faster to and the park was rather busy on Saturday good crowd.

If you look through Valleyfair's timeline there's a pretty consistent pattern of something being added every year. When I say "something" that can vary from a roller coaster to a food location. So that's why many of the people in this forum believe Valleyfair will be receiving something. It isn't a given, but because of past history many people have that presupposition.

I'm sure my word choice was correct. The posters when debating presuppose (an assumption made before an argument or course of action) that Valleyfair will be recieving some sort of addition. Anyways, enough with the word choice. Has anyone ever considered the possibility of the arcade being removed? I noticed it's not very popular, and it wouldn't surprise me if they removed it in the future.

Nothing fishy here, that was a damn good post. This line made me laugh, and you followed it with much insight and truth bombs. I first joined a coaster forum (ThemeParkCRITIC) at around his age, and it was rough sledding at times.

I don't see the arcade going anywhere soon because it is used as a haunt building but if they were to remove it and combine that land with the former land that tilter sat on it would create potentially a new area for a small coaster. It would of course have to traverse the Minnesota Valley Railway tracks and tunnel but it could be designed to be a really cool themed area!

Remember that last year we did not get the official announcement for the Soak City addition until August. Yes, we all knew it was coming but that's not the point. The year before we were all surprised by late announcement of the Route 76 expansion and that turned out fantastic! My point is that Valleyfair has a history of waiting until late in the season to make announcements for the following year. I wish Valleyfair threw out hints but they don't so we just have to wait. Most of the other Cedar Fair parks have not announced anything yet either. Sometimes the writing is on the wall and other times we just get surprised. At this point I would guess that we have 3 possibilities. One, a flat ride somewhere. Two, another waterpark addition, possibly where the old splash station is or where the sand play area is or even a large water play structure that would take up both spots and stretch over the lazy river. One other possibility is the replacement of the panic falls slides. Three, an announcement about the permit that was submitted and their plans for developing that area which could include a new coaster and/or waterpark addition. If a new coaster was in the works they would have to wait to construct it until all the flood berm work was completed so if there was a new coaster it may not open till 2017 but construction would start in 2016. Just my thoughts. I hope I'm not being too "daft"

I've heard rumors that it's not being used for Haunt this year, because of that new Haunt building. Or at least Chateau won't be in it this year- I've heard both rumors. But I don't think I see it going anywhere either.

From what I have heard from scare actors in haunt they aren't going to use that building this year since Chateau is being moved to the new building. (the facade looks great by the way)

Building a small coaster over by were the old tilt a whirl spot was and removing the arcade to make room for one? Wouldn't the train tunnel in the way? I would think they would have to build the supports over the top of the train tunnel to make room there. There is space available for a small coaster over were the old tilt a whirl spot is. What kind of small coaster are we talking about in that area? Would a Sky Rocket like at Kennywood fit in there or a spinning dragons like at Worlds of Fun and a Fairly Odd Coaster at Nickelodeon Universe possibly could fit in there to. And a Black Widow thrill ride like at Kennywood could also fit there.

Room for a small coaster?

A different coaster club(initials CPK) just tweeted a picture of Excalibur, "today we are saying goodbye to Excalibur". Did I miss an announcement somewhere?

I just saw that tweet too... Is it actually leaving or are they saying goodbye because speculation? I would like to go on it if it is closing, but an announcement would be nice.
