The trouble with Vegas is that none of the coasters there are really that "good" - Desperado, Manhattan Express, Canyon Blaster, or Speed. It's kind of like "choose your evil!" Â My dad has some ADA thingy and I get to tag along! Â Robb, Elissa, since ya'll have been there. And well, I haven't. Which Hotel would you recomend? We need somthing on the strip. And Price isn't a problem. Â I was thinking something along the lines of Mirage Circus Cirus Luxor Bilagio? Â My Mom wants to stay at the hotel with the fake sky above you that changes color and what not(Theres like a walkway with shops and stuff on the side, its kinda like a theme park midway, with no rides, and a ceiling above you that changes color, we saw it on TV). BeemerBoy Posted July 31, 2006 Share Posted July 31, 2006 If price isn't an issue....then Bellagio hands down. Although you really can't go wrong with Bellagio, Caesars, or Venetian if you ask me. And for the record, Circus Circus may have a coaster in it, but I felt like I needed a shower after just walking through that place! Â Venetian and Alladin both have ceiling light patterns that change to simulate the 24hour daylight cycle. Now that I think about it, Caesars is where you should really concentrate on though. Â I always stay at Monte Carlo because the food is "Elissa Friendly" and it's in a great location. Your mom is talking about Caesers, but I think that's a little far north on the strip now compared to where all the action is. Â Bellagio is very nice, but has absolutely nothing to offer you unless you're over 21 and have a lot of money. Mirage seems to be quite 'dated' and looks very 80's in my opinion. Â As far as I'm concerned, it is NOT on the Strip. It is in this horrible dodgy area between the crappy north strip and crappy downtown. I wouldn't feel safe walking anywhere there. Not sure about the discount thing, but if price isn't a problem with where you stay, then a cab ride and a ride pass to Stratosphere is the way to go. But seriously, if you're thinking of staying at any one of the places with a coaster just because it has a coaster....don't. Pick the best, and most interesting place to you and your party, and then plan on just visiting the places with the rides. That's how I'd do it anyway. IMO, it's too far south on the strip (resulting in a long walk/ride/monorail to get anywhere else) but the resort itself is great. Nice pool area, nice ambiance, great food!!! Make sure to eat at Wolfgang Pucks Italian Place, it's awesome! We eat there every time we go! Â THE Hotel is owned and operated by a different group and is separete from Mandalay Bay even though it's the same hotel. THE Hotel rooms are nicer and are more of a conciere experince compared to the normal Mandalay Bay. Â As for Manhattan Express, I"m pretty sure it still hasn't run the new trains with people yet. It's a great looking place. House of Blues is there, and the "waterpark" area is very nice with a great wavepool. The aquarium is also topnotch from what I hear (didn't go in that one, so can't help ya there). The problem with Mandalay is that it's at the extreme south end of everything. I mean, there's nothing beyond it to the south. If you plan on walking to alot of things, this is NOT the place to stay. Â EDIT: dangit Elissa. I guess I need to type faster. Oh yeah, and Speed is very underrated IMHO. Great launch, and thankfully you get to do the ride twice for what you pay. See....I stayed on topic too. As far coasters, I liked Desperado the most closely followed by Speed. Manhattan Express wasn't bad at all. Keep in mind it wasn't good. The new trains helped a lot. Canyon Blaster hurt! The unfortunate thing is that it kind of gets old very fast, but the launch keeps it fresh. Â Desperado is...interesting. It's exciting in the back car, watching each car in front of you disappear one by one by one until you're whipped down the drop (which seems huge when you're riding it), but it's also a bladderbeater. However, the Turbo Drop is really good and so is the log flume (especially the float through the casino, haha). Â Canyon Blaster is a pretty good double loop double corkscrew. It's rough, but bearably so, and the loops in the backseat are amazing. Also try the boat ride and the Chance launch tower. Â Manhattan Express is killer, and not in a good way. It's also hugely expensive; although a wristband might seem worth it, it's not, because you won't ride more than twice. Â Up on top of the Stratosphere is the best collection of rides in Las Vegas. Get a wristband and ride your ass off. On Xtreme, ride on the inside back (tower side), then the outside front (street side). The difference is incredible. I haven't had a chance to ride Insanity (okay, ya got me, it freaked me out too much and I didn't want to go). I'm sort of sad that they removed the High Roller. It's a good "take a break" coaster. Was. Actually, it was crap. And then there's the Big Shot, which is one of the most exhilarating, re-rideable launch towers out there. Ride it at night, because then there's the light that turns on right before the launch. This is good for goofing with the people in line; strike up a conversation with them, and then the moment the light turns on go "See ya!" or something similar. Typically, they will have a better deal than the other hotels. Otherwise, it's up to you. Caesar's is perfectly in the middle of all the action. Â Graciass \Â If you stay at the Stratosphere you get a "fun book" kind of thing with various drink/food coupons, etc. You also get free tower admission between 10AM and 12 noon any day you stay (they give you a pass for that when you check in). It beats paying the 8 bucks during the day, and I think it's 12 at night, just to go up in the damn thing. Â I want to say they had a few ride discount coupons in there too, but we didn't make use of them, so I can't remember. Â I've stayed there pretty much every time we've gone to Vegas, at least one night. They just did a rehab on all their rooms and I have to say, they're a heck of a lot better than they were before. Â EDIT: The area is pretty ghetto, but I've been able to always make it the 3 blocks to the Sahara monorail station without a problem. If it wasn't for the monorail, I wouldn't stay there if you gave me a million dollars... it's just too weird around there now. Â Hope that helps. Canyon blaster was so smooth the first few times I rode it, but then it seemed to get rougher.. Mandalay is also nice but a long way away. I've stayed at NYNY and it was nice but for me a little too far down that end. The last 2 years and again in October we now stay at Treasure Island. It's a nice medium between affordable and nice and I like it's location. Plus every second year when our big conference is in Vegas its an official discounted hotel  If you really are on a money is no object holiday get yourself (EARLY like weeks or months in advance)a reservation at Prime at Bellagio, will be a meal you will never forget. But at the same time we were there our bill was something like $200-250US.  Oh and make sure you go and see Blue Man Group, I would still fly to Vegas just to see that show!  Thanks for the Wolfgang tip Elissa, we may just have to hit that one! Also the convention is in Mandalay Bay, so my parents don't care how far down the strip is. All they care about is how easy it is to get the the convention. But hey, thats why they invented Taxis.
