Jumboshrmp
Floorlesses are also ones, they used to be one of the hottest things out on the market, but now they are a think in the past. I think I disagree with this. Do you think sit down coasters are a thing of the past? The floorless coaster is an improvement on the sit down style... this is my favorite type of coaster. As for fads, I hope that bumpy wooden coasters die out soon, I would really like to see some nice smooth ones.
Darien Laker
^^^Certainly you don't mean the S:ROS's! Although you're pretty much right about all the other Supermen.... A lot of the older Arrow/Vekoma loopers seem to fit this category. The older ones, while they may be smooth(er), have horribly out-dated, SHORT layouts (except maybe Loch Ness Monster and Darien Lake's Viper, which both are over 3,000 feet). The newer ones, while longer, are still poorly engineered and cause pain to the human body. I've heard Tennessee Tornado is different, but that's like it's own generation of Arrow looping coaster. I don't think we'll be seeing anymore of those problematic Vekoma Deja Vu's or Flying Dutchmen, either. The Flying Dutchmen have just been out-spoken by B&M. (I've been on Batwing, and you're laying on your back WAY too much for it to even be called a "flyer").
FeelTheFORCE
I dont believe in outdated coasters or coasters that "lose their appeal" or become"useless"!! Find me the oldest one and I will ride it! A roller coaster is a roller coaster to me!! Ranging from kiddy coasters to the uber mega ginormous coasters. From standard coasters to the 4d coasters, its all the same to me! I still like Gold Rusher (mine train) at SFMM! I absolutely love Matterhorn at Disneyland! I will never get bored of any of them! I will always like the "usless" or "outdated" coasters all the way to the most technological coasters that can be thought of today!!! I agree with you...there is never any lines at CP for Iron Dragon or Corkscrew but I still love to ride them. I rode them when I was little with my grandma, who is unable to ride anything now, and they bring back many memories...plus I do like them a lot! I will always like the "usless" or "outdated" coasters all the way to the most technological coasters that can be thought of today!!! I'm not saying the public won't ride these rides anymore, or that they are not fun because their not new, when I mean oudated or fad, I speak in terms of the manufacturer and the park. For example, Impulse coasters used to be a very hot item on the coaster market. A lot of chains put these coasters into their park because they were a pioneer in technology, and still are. But as time passed, parks did not ask Intamin for Impulse coasters as much as they used to because of technology. Because there was not a large demand for Impulses, Intamin stopped installing these coasters as much as they used to. But I'm sure that the Impulses coasters that are in the parks are popular rides. I'm sure Wicked Twister has long lines during Cedar Point's season because a lot of people like that ride. Mindbender is one of my favorite rides even though they do not make those kind of rides any more. The public will not stop riding someting just because it is old, or not updated. Schmoofy
I don't think anyone mentioned inverted swinging coasters yet. I haven't heard of one of them being built in a long time. Floorless was already mentioned, although I really would like to ride one of them, they died out quick. Also I think backwards trains faded out too. Golfie
Intamin Launch coasters that consist only of top hats. TTD KK Stealth all in like three years, right? Also, Intamin Impulse Coasters (which stinks because V2 RAWKS!)
ECZenith
Standups were popular for a while and then just kind of went under... Hasn't been a new one since Scorcher.

Jumboshrmp
^ For obvious reasons, too! They only appeal to 50% of the population (if you know what I mean ) And that 50% of the population makes up about 5% of the coaster community. And floorless coasters aren't dying out. Dorney Park got a new one just last year. Floorlii ROCK!
Oni
^Floorlii haha Anyway, it seems like Premier hasn't been building any LIM shuttles or spaghetti bowls. Or are they? I haven't heard of one being built in a while. They seem to be "outdated" as well.
WillMontu
Bobsleds - We haven't seen any new ones in a while (Flying Turns being an exception, which is a novelty in itself) Dueling coasters - We had Twisted Sisters, Gwazi, Dueling Dragons, and Lightning Racer in a span of several years. We haven't had anything since Megaloopers - Nobody builds "standard" multiloopers these days. Colossus at Thorpe is an exception, but it is a novelty in that it has ten inversions Pipeline coasters - Maybe if Arrow had one that works and/or companies other than Togo built them, they might not be as rare as they are. ParkTrips
Bobsleds, Dueling coasters, Megaloopers, Pipeline coasters I think you have misinterpreted the question (at least different than how I interpreted it)... I think the idea was to come up with styles that were once very popular that have since died... I don't think there was ever really a period when boblseds, dueling coasters or pipelines were reaally in high demand... and you could at least argue for megaloopers, but even then, they have popped up here and there. - Joe
Jon Sabo
I would post the old Arrow versions of the suspended coaster(s). After issues with the Bat from PKI, Arrow appeared to struck gold with BBW and Ninja. Some installations occured in Japan and England (The Vampire-if I stand corrected), but never really took off since Hyabusa and it (the fad) eventually faded. Granted, the suspended design should be maximized by the use of terrain, but it is rather unfortunate not to see any 'newer' designs or updated ideas to really draw new interest. I personally loved working on BBW and maintenance was not as bad as some have perceived. I wish S&S could reinvigorate this design somewhere down the line with a fresh and new approach/design. niiicolaaah
One word: Boomerang coastersThey can get really boring because there is practically one at every park Once again, I say, Boomerangs are NOT a fad. They are very popular with the GP, have been around for 20 years, and are continuing to be built. Please don't confuse a "fad" with something you used to ride when you were younger that lost its thrill as you got older and rode more coasters.
