^Interesting...one of the staff members at SFMM was bragging that only five locations sold dole whip, SFMM being one of the five. I guess he meant one of the five outside Disney parks.

Swung by the park for a few hours to see how things would be in the covid world, and I have to say that magic mountain did a pretty good job. For those wondering, it appears the only checks for r

SFMM Trip Report. Opening Day, April 1st, 2021.    TLDR: I had a very six flags day (but it was awesome)   After over four years, I finally returned to my home park and self-procla

On Saturday 11/21, Theme Park Review was invited to see the Six Flags Magic Mountain Holiday in the Park Drive-thru Experience. It’s rare for park patrons to get to drive through a theme park, so this

Lapperts Ice Cream Shops in California

Also at Lappert's in Las Vegas which is located inside the California Hotel & Casino, which has a Hawaiian theme.

I had a crazy ride on Green Lantern over the weekend. My friend and I got put on the same ride vehicle as two tiny girls that were there for grad night with their middle school (I actually found it odd how many middle schools were there, I didn't think middle schools did grad nights) so needless to say our weight differential was pretty big. We pretty much spun through the whole ride. I don't think I've ever seen anyone spin on that first section of the track that just has a little dip, but we managed to do it. Then the ride broke down just as we got into the station and the vehicle was unable to get upright so we hung at this angle where all the weight was on our man parts waiting for the mechanic to show up. People in the loading area were actually yelling at the ride ops to help us out since we were obviously in extreme pain, but of course there's nothing they could do.

EDIT: Did a little googling. It seems that they serve Dole Whip and the Dole Plantation on Hawaii (makes sense), .

I have had the Dole Whip in Hawaii, and it is heaven, especially with fresh pineapple served in it. I hope SFMM's Dole Whips taste just as good.

Does a learner's permit allow you to drive on the freeway? It didn't back when I had mine, but that was LONG time ago.

Nevermind, it's MOTORCYCLE permit that doesn't allow you to go on the freeway. See? I told you I was old. I forget nearly everything these days. Have a safe trip.

The thing i'm concerned about is we'll be taking turns driving to catch some sleep and if it would be legal for him to sleep. Doubt it would be. I know we can both get money for staying at motel's in the area but he delivers papers every morning so he has to find a person to fill in for him. So he'd want to get back home ASAP and with us being at MM for two days, ugh. I assume we could leave Thursday afternoon, catch some sleep at a rest area then head to the park friday morning. On the way back catch some sleep at a rest stop after staturday and drive back and get back sunday morning/early afternoon.

Disney offers Dole Whip floats in pineapple juice, which sounds healthy and decadent at the same time. It's good to see this treat showing up in more parks.

What's odd though, is that there is another sign on the other entrance that is for "Loaded Dogs".

I really, REALLY wanted to see this sign so I fixed the link...yay

Back from Hurricane Harbor. The new bar has a loud band. They do indeed have Flash Pass. $20 for Regular, $30 for Gold. Basically every ride has it. Now for the regular rides, you queue up in switchbacks below the towers before they let you up on the towers for a 5-10ish minute wait. On the intertube rides, you have to wait in a line for the tube, then switchbacks before you go up into the tower, then a third line on the tower. There are kiosks throughout the park so you can put rides on the Flash Pass. Also, the lockers now use wireless wristbands to unlock them.

If you have any questions, just post them.

The western or LA dog looks good, and I never had a deep fried snickers bar yet.

Right now I plan on going to SFMM to finally use my VIP passes a week or two after the tower drop opens. Talked it over with SF before and they said it's fine if I split them 2 each among me and a friend. Now that I can finally drive (permit, for now.) me and him can take turns driving down I-5 to the park which isn't hard at all. Practically a straight, boring highway.

Be careful. You mentioned that it was straight and boring, so you definitely don't want to fall asleep! Make sure to entertain yourself with music, games, or just talking to your friend to keep yourself alert and awake. Oh... And have a Six Flags day too!

The wireless wristbands are only in the water park right?

For the Flash Passes or the lockers?

Flash Pass: The Q-bands are just at SFHH. SFMM still uses Q-bots.

Locker: I am not sure if they are in SFMM or not. I haven't checked. But they are so much better than keys!

Not to mention, the park looked really nice today! Everything was clean! The water was clean and it looked like almost everything had a fresh coat of paint!

Hmm--interesting that Dole Whip is no longer the "exclusive" treat of Disney. Or have other parks been serving it for years, too? I've only seen it at Disneyland and WDW.

EDIT: Did a little googling. It seems that they serve Dole Whip and the Dole Plantation on Hawaii (makes sense), Lapperts Ice Cream Shops in California, and Mr. B's Ice Cream and Food in Latrobe, Pa.

I've also had Dole Whip at Island Freeze in the International Market Place food court in Waikiki. It's Hawaii again, makes sense.

Anyways, looks like Magic Mountain has an eatery that might actually be worth checking out.

Oh, i'm still a pretty new driver who's still overcoming a fear of other drivers so that alone will keep me focused. Plus with I-5 it's straight and so are the roads So it's not exactly hard to drive for anyone. The main thing is just keeping a constant steady speed and avoid temptation into speeding. One of the last times I was fine with my dad speeding at about 80 MPH and we made it from LA to Stockton within like 6 hours or something which was our best time between the two ever.

My friend also said he wants to be the one driving the grapevine hills, which I agree with. But once into Bakersfield and Patterson, I should be fine driving that stretch.

Also about the wristband comments. I was referring to the lockers, not flashpash. I think SFMM could go either way with physical key's or RFID's for their all day storage systems. Possibly for the same reason motel's use keycards now.

Did you end up in the station upright or upside down?

We came in upside down but settled into a position where we were kind of at an angle. The vehicle kept rocking as if it was trying to upright itself but couldn't.

Yeah we were there Friday. Did you guys end up going on? For some reason the ride operators were taking turns riding while we were there. I think it broke down a couple of times during the day.

My family and I are all going to be visiting Magic Mountain on Monday the 18th, any advice for first time visitors? I decided to avoid any lines what so ever, even if it is a Monday in June, and bought the platinum flash pass for my brother and I.... I've used fast passes at kings island but never a flash pass. Any advice on those? We're spending 400 dollars on parking/tickets/flash passes alone so I'm hoping for a good day

Give me a run down of everything I need to know!

wow that didn't happen when i was there! haha we waited about 15 to 20 minutes before we got on, the ride op just called maintenance, i wasn't sure what was wrong with the ride but i heard one of the staff members ask another if "the ride turned off again" and i was like what is happening, there was some other issues throughout the park also, tatsu was down when i went, it didn't even leave the station! people were stuck in their seats.

The Q-Bot will be 100% worth it. You should have no problem getting on every coaster with many re-rides as well. Just be prepared for the heat so drink a lot of water and you should be fine. Now for the Revolution exit short cut. This will help you get to Tatsu faster than the GP. Just follow the yellow path. Which I would recommend going on first. Enjoy yourself!

I know it's a little off topic, but has anybody heard much about an upgrade to Colossus?

Nothing besides some potential hints by Rocky Mountain Coasters during a convention earlier this year. Their Six Flags project turned out to be Six Flags Fiesta Texas' Rattler (http://www.spokanejournal.com/article.php?id=7763), and the other project will be a completely new ride (http://www.thecoastercritic.com/2011/12/rocky-mountain-coasters-to-build-2-new-roller-coasters.html).

Any Colossus renovations by this company will have to wait until 2014 or 2015, at least. I wouldn't be surprised if that happened, and I hope it does!

Yeah, I had read about that rumour.... From what I understand about Colossus, it doesn't get anywhere near the amount of riders as others in the park, it's expensive ride to operate and maintain, but scrapping or replacing would be an huge cost.

Personally, I love the ride as it is, but if I'm honest, it slows down too much in a lot of areas and every time I have visited they have only had 1 track operating which is a huge part of the ride, and half the fun.

So how could it be improved?

Maybe a new track and cars like Texas Giant?

Maybe one car can be in reverse, and one facing forward?

I have also seen people speculating if they made the ride have only one track (not duelling) but used the infrastructure in place (some mods of course) and have a track twice as long...

Does anybody have any other ideas?

I like the idea of one long track on Colossus. It could give them the space to make it a massive ride again, perhaps on the scale of a compact El Toro. If the project does happen, I can't wait to see what they do with it.

^^I'm all for anything that would get them to consistently run both sides on the same day, preferably racing. And not just because I need one of the credits.
