The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

They also said "Spring" for Green Lantern and it didn't open until July.

They also said 2010 for Mr. Six's Dance Coaster, and it didn't open until June 2011.

You have to think of it this way:

Superman JUST closed last week. Not sure what kind of prep work they are doing so far, but I haven't seen, or heard any reports of anything for the new ride showing up on site yet. Doesn't mean it's not there, but I didn't see anything backstage or anything last week.

Also, Spring goes until mid-late June. I wouldn't make a trip to SFMM just to ride Superman, just in case.

Psh, this is just how the park always operates. Wait until the very last minute to start construction with very little going on, then begin to rush to complete the ride at the opening date as it comes nearer. This increases the chances for a problem or something to go wrong, and when the ride doesn't open on time this "problem" is what the park blames for the ride opening delay, not their own god awful planning. Generally these are the issues that cause a delay of the final opening of the ride.

Not saying that's what is going to happen with this ride, but it's a bad habit to get into especially considering it gives you minimal time for error correction if a mistake arises or it doesn't operate the way it's designed (which with Magic Mountain, ANYTHING can happen, and it usually does).

With this park the best thing to do is just wait until it's actually open. Anything other than that like planning a trip before the ride is actually operating is a gamble IMO. To me it doesn't seem like there's that much involved in a ride like this, but we'll see.

^ Actually most parks don't even announce opening dates any more, until the ride is almost finished. And given that SFMM is a year round park, they can open a new ride any time they choose, probably whatever works to their "marketing" advantage.

I do agree though that delays are frustrating if you're planning a trip from far away.

They said "Late Spring Opening" if I remember correctly, which usually means Memorial Day weekend. So if everything goes as planned, it will probably be open. If they said "Spring" you're still probably fine.

The website says just "spring," but with SFMM as it has been said that could mean anything from the middle of March to July 4th weekend.

Look at it this way, Dollywood is already testing their new coaster.

Have we seen any of the coasters or attractions going in at ANY Six Flags park that look even remotely close to being done? Superman? X Flight? Apocalypse?

I've seen X Flight construction pics, but it's not anywhere close to being done.

This isn't just an SFMM thing.

Just got back from the park. They made quite a bit of progress on the log jammer area. It's looking a lot bigger of an area than I amagined. They cleared the old mono station completely and flattened it out. It also looked like they dug into the steep terrains in the very back of the LJ spot near gold rusher to make it more flat

Ugh, can I just say I hate posts like that, there's nothing in that post to even tempt me to click on the link, on top of that it's not important enough news to be splashed all over TPR (at least not yet if it is). haha Just ranting, can't wait for WCB next weekend to see all the changes.

I thought it was just me who missed something in that link..

This is exactly why we tell people to post some pictures and a link if they have any actual news or interesting photos. Obviously there wasn't anything good over there which is why no one bothered. Plus when a 13 year old tells you to go do something, you probably should take that with a grain of salt!

^People used to be all over dirt and land clearing pics, particularly when they built Tatsu and Terminator. Why is everyone shooting them down now?

The PortAventura thread sort of made me sick of seeing dirt...

Seeing dirt and scrap metal (Magic Mountain) doesn't make it any better.

I don't get the hate on that link. Annoying that you have to click through to view the stuff, but I'm assuming that the poster probably didn't feel that he had the authority to repost someone else's images...so he just linked.

As far as the newsworthiness, I found it interesting myself. Mostly interesting to see actual demolition of the monorail track, finally. Wonder if that was done to get equipment in the area, or that they're getting an early jump on the attraction (that is going in the area) that will need that monorail track to not be there?

That Food Etc has looked run down for years, nice that they're finally renovating it. Assuming it has something to do with increased traffic over there with the drop tower?

Also, nice to see where that guy Eric ended up going (comments section of that blog that was linked). I've read this site for years, and always laughed as half of his posts seemed to consist of "was going to go to the park/may go to the park/ended up not going to the park" comments! Assuming it's the same dude, he's keeping his posting style alive!

Anyway, I appreciated the link provided as it showed some pictures I hadn't yet seen....and I did enjoy them!
