Ryan King
1. Superman is going to be repainted sometime during the winter operating schedule (most likely after Fright Fest 2007). Actually, it just says that it is going to be repainted, you didn't state in what colors. Eh, whatever, you got the point across to me. Sorry for your trouble! ---Brent Last time I was at SFMM (West Coast Bash), I remember talking to an Employee (No...not your normal Joe Employee). He informed the group that Superman WILL be repainted...the color scheme was currently Red, Yellow, and Blue. (These colors subject to change!) IMO...Superman is a WASTE of steel in general. I think it should be torn down and made into something much more useful, but I know THAT wont happen. So i guess a "repaint" will help make the eye sore in the sky a little more photogenic. -Ryan "Still thinks Goldrusher and Colossus deserve a repaint BEFORE Superman" King
metrock
Makes the eyesore a little more photogenic? I know it is all personal preference, but I never had a problem with the current color scheme. New bright colors might look good for the 1st couple years, but in time they will fade and look worse than the current condiition does. Take Batman: The Ride for example. Even with faded paint, it still looks (somewhat) ok. Goliath, and X are a few examples of how bad the new colors on Superman will look in a few years time. Manic Monte
Painting Superman is very much a Mark Shapiro thing. He actually wants to do a painting rotation thing where every year, a coaster gets a paint job. That way, once the paint fades, it's actually due to be painted again. I personally think it's a GREAT thing. Superman as it stands now looks like a giant garbage can. I think new colors will help.
metrock
Well if it is only one coaster per year, that leaves ~15 years (depending if you count the kiddie coasters) inbetween paint jobs for coasters at Magic Mountain. I beive that Goliath (2000) has been looking horrible for some time now. Not to say that Shapiro isn't headed in the right dirrection. One coaster per year is more than we had in the past. KrazyT
I think that if they are going to do that they should do a few per year and not just one.
socalMAN123
Well, Ninja just got painted, and Superman is due to recieve a paint job, so I think it will actually be more than one coaster a year. Oh yeah, and thanks for clearing that up for me Ryan. ---Brent
metrock
Well right now I would expect them to be painting more than one coaster a year. There is a lot of catching up to do in that department. I just hope that once all the rides are repainted, they stay looking fresh. Thanks to stupid envirmental laws, and the ban of lead in paints, the crap they use today hardly holds up. I think Goliath is the LEAST of our worries. I think Goldrusher and Colossus NEED it MUCH more then Goliath. But thats Just MO Superman is a huge rusting "garbage can". I find it in no way thrilling... You made a good point by saying the paint will fade and such...TRUE. Oh yeah, and thanks for clearing that up for me Ryan.---Brent The important thing to remember is what Metrock mentions. Shapiro is actually allowing parks to work on long standing problems. Paint Jobs, new trains, infrastructure upgrades and the return of Metro. Over the next three years, tons of work is going into fixing long standing issues with the park. Unfortunately, don't expect any new rides for awhile.
hemmy
Rip out the paving under Scream and plant some grass now
arrowfanman
^ IMO, Scream is like the "Berlin Wall" of a lot of the problems with the park--a symbol for SFMM's attitude on a quality expirence. The day they get some jackhammers and begin to remove the parkinglot in favor of grass, rocks, trees, brush, etc., is the day I trust that SFMM truely does have a new mindset. -Jahan "Mr. Shapiro--rip out this parkinglot" Makanvand
socalMAN123
^ Haha, I love the comparison of Scream to the Berlin Wall. Scream will look really nice once they actually decide to fix that part. Also, I hold the same opinion with Ryan about Superman. The ride is quite boring IMO and it looks really bad with all of the rust and fading paint. ---Brent
haiderodes
Yeah, that seat is just for larger people. If you sit in it and your small, you get MAJOR airtime. Its insane. Theres nothing wrong with it if that was what you where thinking From what I have seen, these "big boy" seats aren't any different in actual dimension so any difference in airtime is likely just an illusion. The seat belts go on either side of the "hump" found on B&M seats. The placement of the belts on either side just gives the rider a few more inches of go/no-go space if they should need it otherwise it acts just as normal. If the ride crew is doing their job correctly the harness will still be down just as far as the rest of them.
wrs28330
On Monday the nemo walls came down, and today the Johnny walls came down! Here are some picture; this was a bit rushed as I am also working on my final projects. No captions, self explanitory, new character meet and greet location signs (they will soon install time wheels, and two new random planters (no clue what they are for.) Enjoy (or at least try.) kraxleRIDAH
Thanks for the update. Though it's refreshing to see an old restaurant building made over at Magic Mountain (Johnny Rockets), the whole "walk-up-to-the-counter" approach completely negates the whole Johnny Rockets experience and what the brand is all about. Just my two cents. I look at the Knott's Berry Farm Johnny Rockets (which happens to be the largest in square footage by the way) and think that's quite impressive, while the Magic Mountain attempt at it is a bit underwhelming. Not to mention the inflated menu prices which are a bit ridiculous. The prices on Knott's JR's menu are VERY reasonable and are almost the same as every other franchise JR. So Magic Mountain not only has a limited menu, they're charging more! But then again, that's me nitpicking. Good to see some changes at the park. Those planter things are a bit curious though. Wonder what those will be...maybe a foundation for a large park map and guest directory? I'm happy to see that not only are changes occuring at Magic Mountain, but new ones start up at the tail of others. The improvements keep going, which is a good sign! arrowfanman
^ Personally, I find that your average Johnny Rockets already HAS inflated prices. But that doesn't negate your argument. Thanks for the update! -Jahan
Double0Kevin
I'm sure those foundations are for the same billboards SFDK has been getting all over the place. Having worked at the JR in Cedar Point, that JR is horrible, kills the whole atmosphere and appeal of JR. Johnny Rockets doesn't have the best food in the world, but the service and look of the restraunts is what people like about it. SFMM's JR is nothing more than sh*tty food with your typical SF food services employees that are in no way similar to what we see in KBF or CP's restraunts. DATman
^Yeah, but in Jahan's update, he mentioned the possibility of it becoming full service as of next year. I think it lookse good, except isn't the "Fries Burgers Shakes" thing from In 'N Out?
kraxleRIDAH
Yup. Papa John's, Coldstone Creamery, and Johnny Rockets didn't know what they were getting into when they signed contracts with Six Flags. People will now come to associate those three food brands with slow speed of service, uncleanliness, bland tasting foods and low-morale work force all thanks to Six Flags' method of serving. Double0Kevin
I can't say for papa johns cause i've never paid attention. But the Cold Stone at SFDK seems to be very clean and the line is fairly fast paced. They seem to have put the best employees there. Then again i'm being biased with SFDK as this year all their employees seems 10 times better, SFMM has always disappointed me in every aspect
lapseofreason
Ooh, nice update. I don't mind paying for Johnny Rockets, but... $5.50 for a milkshake and $11.99 for their biggest combo? Looks like I'll still be going to Wendy's for my lunch breaks... ...Maybe if they filled my souvenir cup with a chocolate shake for $.99 I'd consider eating a combo there. (The last time I ate meat at a Six Flags was a burger in the 1990's at Geauga Lake and I spit it back up in my rush to get on Raging Wolf Bobs.. ROFL) Oh. Wait. I'm sorry... AMERICAN FRIES?! Is this like the Freedom Fries thing? (sigh)
Guest
Prices arent that bad considering its a large corporate park, they're not that much different than normal Johnny Rockets pricing....
wrs28330
There was a lot of work over night on the mystery planters. Still not certain, but my guess is they are indeed for "billboards", most likely signs with "The Guests Code of Conduct."
arrowfanman
^ Oh wow! That's a lot of those signs! Then again, I really still dont mind all that much. I mean, Disneyland litters the park with rules on Grad Nite. And since SFMM appeals to the same "rowdy-teenage" group ALL the time, littering the park with rules is probably a decent start to improving the park. Who knows--maybe in a few years if SFMM's reputation changes a bit, it wont be as necessary to have rules up there! -Jahan "Just wishful thinking!" ghost007jas
I find Knott's Johnny Rocket's to be insanely over priced as well... I'll probably stick with Papa Jon's.. Jake "Better ingredients, better Pizza, Papa Jon's" Sundstrom
