The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

YES!! My sig says it all!! Happy times are here again! *Does the dance of joy* I can honestly say I liked Psyclone........when it first opened.

But I agree with mostly everyone that it was a good move to get rid of it because it wasn't doing jack crap.

No one rode it anymore! So why have it around? All it was doing was just eating up money and nothing good was coming out of it.

But wow what a wonderful birthday present this made for Kristen!!

I wouldn't expect any sort of roller coaster for SFMM for at least 3 to 5 years. When it does happen, I would expect it to replace a current one. I'm pretty sure we won't see more than 14 or 15 coasters at one time in this park, ever again.

I hope you are right about the coaster count. I would rather have less coasters in a park if that meant better operations.

I was hoping someone would have taken some photos/video showing the time frame to bring Psyclone down.

it seems as the park is going to have a patch of the park with little to no theme.

Isn't that pretty much how the whole park is?

True, it should be taken that my statment was conditional upon the assumption that Magic Mountain has some kind of theming.

I find it funny people would say Magic Mountain has no theming. Its Baja Ridge area has a distinct southwest feel and south-of-the-border landscaping; Samurai Summit has Asian architectural influences scattered about; Rapids Camp Crossing has a deep-in-the-woods camp feel with its lush woodland landscaping; Gotham City Backlot does a sufficient job at a faux downtown Gotham City; and High Sierra Territory gives you a mild taste of a recreational area in a national park. Non of it may be Disney-caliber, but it's still very noticeable if you look past the fact you're visiting a Six Flags park.

You want to know what a park that has little to no theme looks like? Visit Elitch Gardens, Darien Lake, Worlds of Fun, or Cedar Point.

Rides that have storylines or plots that don't match the area they reside in is not considered "no theming." That's completely different.

^You're right about all of that, but they don't go in deph. I think people don't count it as themed because they aren't Disney caliber theming. Also, There are some areas that have horrible theming! I.E: Colossus county fair, Psyclone bay, etc, etc, etc. There isn't any theming over by X, Viper, and Revolution.

^^ All very true, though I do question a restaurant serving Chinese food in a Baja themed area, as well as a pizza place in an Asian themed one. I'm still hoping that one day, what was Laughing Dragon will be home to a nice teppan grill style (think "Benihana") restaurant or that Panda Express would move in up there.

Just my 'pinion...

I noticed in one of Robb's pictures the old Psyclone sign is still standing. I hope they pull that out quickly. For some reason it has always annoyed me when there has been signs advertisting something that no longer exists. I assume thought that the park will get that thing out soon enough.

I'm not sure how quickly that actually it, I can't imagin that it is terribly difficult to remove a wooden coaster. I don't recall how long Texas Cyclone took to come down, but I recall it being done in a day or so. I think Flashback might take a bit longer to remove, but nothing substantial.

Yes I meant the cyclone, sorry about the confusion.

^ The Texas Giant is still operating. You must be talking about Texas Cyclone?

Flashback would take at least a week to dismantle. Keep in mind management is exploring the option to reassemble it in the future, so each bolt must come out one by one, each track and support removed carefully piece by piece.

^ Not to mention that its also in a very complex area. Psyclone had that entire side for the crews to work with. With Flashback you have Hurricane Harbor on one side and metro transfer tracks on the other. I almost want to say that they might just close off the pathways to it and use the large open area in front of it. But then where would Season Pass processing be.

Good point. Well, regular weekly operations begin in a couple of weeks, and you can't really not have the season pass booth closed, so perhaps they will begin this week or next week. I doubt it considering the lack of work shown, but if they truley did start this week, it could happen within 2 weeks time. Anyone know more? Spring break is coming up (mine in particular is in about 2 1/2 weeks.
