Wow, that looks really good! I like the Superman Logo too.

Believe it or not that Superman logo on the back of the tower at the top of the ride used to light up, and you could see it on the freeway if you were coming south down the 5. I think the lights been off for over ten years.

It'd be spectacular if they could get it up and lit again, seeing as how the rides going through a rehab and all, as it was a sight to see back then and it'd be cool to see now.

That would be cool. I hope they get that working.

These days with LED technology, they could light that logo even more brilliantly than ever, and it would cost a fraction in electricity than it did before. Hopefully they'll consider that.

Yeah...if only LEDs were more reliable...maybe its me, but almost every single traffic signal I go to that has LEDs, at least one of the bulbs has a couple of the LED's are out--no matter how new the bulbs are. Same with signs on the streets, or with lights on cars, inevitably there's always a reliability issue and it makes everything look awkward.

If used on the Superman sign I'd guess they'd have the same issue not before too long, and it'd be half lit. Maybe LED technology will get better in the future.

^ You make a good point. We saw some LED floodlights that would be perfect for the motion-sensor light in the entry at our house. Indeed, two of them light the place up like daylight. But one by one, they started failing till it got down to about an eight of the bulbs lit. I finally tossed them and got fluorescent ones that work just fine.

As for the logo, if not LEDs, something else would be cool as well...maybe something where the logo is animated in some way.

^^I'd say they are very reliable. Many casino properties here in town have changed to exclusively LED lighting on the exterior (particular in the areas of signage). In fact, even our 7-11s and other convenience stores have changed to LED lighting on their exteriors. Hell, the grocery store up the street from me uses them in the frozen foods section...they have motion detectors too, so that they only turn on when someone is nearby and/or opens the door.

I was reading an article not too long ago about how LEDs are getting more powerful every year without increasing heat and electrial usage. Next time you are in Vegas take a look at the Planet Hollywood sign on the Westgate timeshare tower. That thing is BRIGHT!

As far as the logo, animation, and LEDs, they could put a giant screen up there like the type used in X2s station. Not only would that be lit by LEDs, but because it's basically a giant monitor, they could animate it as well. The way this park is with keeping up on changing burned out light bulbs, it would have to be lit by LEDs, and the fact that it's so high up, using standard fluorescent lighting, would be a lot more expensive to maintain due to the height and frequent bulb changes. A less expensive option to the giant monitor would be to use the existing sign and retrofit it with color changing LEDs. A good set of LEDs in that sign should last at least 5-10 years.

EBL, I've been wondering about those LEDs for home use but I have stayed away from them because of what you mentioned and I just don't think they are bright enough to use for that.
