The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Offhand, I can't think of any tire lifts with any anti-rollbacks, though I'm sure there must be some provision for that. (Jaguar! at Knott's comes to mind.) Do the tires grip tightly enough to stop a train rolling backwards? Can the motors turn the opposite direction or are they ratcheted in some way to only turn one direction.

Being such a nerd of the mechanical aspects of coasters, I should know this.

Having worked on Woodstock Express at Cedar point, they do not have independant rollbacks on the lift itself. The tire lift is fully capable of stopping the train and keeping it in place (even fully loaded). If the tires get really wet and can possibly slip an inch or two at most, usually not enough to ever send it crashing back into the station, but that's why they have a set of brakes at the bottom of the lift in multiple train operation. And it's not like the park would run it in the rain anyway for that very reason.

That said I also think Magic Mountain won't change anything and keep it one train. The thing that will kill capacity though is it it has seat belts or not. It was a HUGE pain in the butt at Cedar Point (especially after they added the stupid plastic cover to prevent most people from opening the seat belts themselves and absolutely killed any decent capacity the ride could have had. Add in the fact that it's Magic Mountain and you might have better capacity at Deja Vu still lol.

^ Yes---from what I've been hearing.

"...Zonga formerly of SFDK (and whatever it's called now)..." (Tmcdllr)

I think right now it's called "pile of metal." Unless I missed something, I don't think it's been reassembled anywhere. Or maybe it left the country...

At least this new coaster will have better capacity than Canyon Blaster. And be a bit longer.

It's now running (or not) in Mexico as Tsunami.

Well, actually, Tsunami is closed to the public, but it can be operated at anny moment.

The problem is that Tsunami is the only atracction of a park proyect, that was supossed to be completed this year. The economical situation and the cancellation of "La feria de San Marcos" by Influenza, caused that this proyect suffer a big delay.

I talk yesterday with Tsunami admins. and they told me that the coaster will open on the 2010 edition of La feria de San marcos, April and May, during 4 or 5 weeks.

That´s the situation of Tsunami.

BTW.. When will Shapiro announe the new coaster, and other atracctions?
