The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

On saturdays the park schedule is 10:30- 12:00.

Note: There is NO day SFMM wil have small crowds.

I had to wait nearly 3 huors to get on X2 at night.

Yes, there are days SFMM has small crowds. I went on the Saturday of MLK weekend in January, everything was a walk on except X2, which was 35 minutes during the day and 1 hour at night. Yes, on a Saturday. You just got to know what days to go if you want small crowds.

I've never been during Frightfest, so I wouldn't know about those crowds.

Thinking about going to Fright Fest this year. I've never been and have always been curious about their event. So I was wondering what nights would SFMM's Fright Fest be the least crowded or dead? Also how does it work, like you stay in the park all day and then the mazes open at some point as upcharge? What time do they open?

Every year I've gone the first weekend seems to be the best weekend. Least crowded, and amped up monsters. I think mazes have an upcharge as of 2008. I wonder if they are free for Xtreme Play Pass holders like they were last year.

I wanna go to FF...but I highly dislike getting scared (I just wanna ride colossus, scream, and all that fun stuff), is there any way, or strategy to avoid getting the crap scared out of me?

Yes! We go to Fright Fest because it is so mild! The walk-through sections are weak! Gotham City is probably the only one with any remote chance of being scary.

Colossus Backwards alone is worth the trip! Of coarse, that's just in my own opinion.

You could always go during the day

But I wanna ride the coasters with their lights off and disco sand blasters!

But if the scare sections are mild, I should be okay, I mean they are all actors anyway!

Well, in all honesty, you go in with the mindset that its all in the name of good fun, you'd find yourself not caring whether you are scared or not.

I get scared easily. In fact, at the end of Dead Man's Bog in Tidal Wave's que last year, there was an employee with a flashlight at the end of the maze, but I stood like an idiot there for a few minutes not entirely sure if she was an actor in the maze or not. Pretty pathetic, but heck, I'd still go in the mazes to get scared and check them out.

Plus its funny when people get scared the **** out of them

Stay out of the designated scare zones, easy as that. Also if you're a guy they're not really going to focus much on you anyway.

As a side story, one of my favorite moments working at the park came during Fright Fest. I worked a show up on Samurai Summit near Ninja. I ran a sound system which we kept right behind a wall (the stone wall that lines the area up there), so unless you went looking for it, you were not going to see it. As part of the entire thing they dressed me in a black t-shirt and black slacks, so at night I was basically impossible to see. Anyway when night would fall and they would begin doing their scaring thing up there. For some reason when people get scared they'd tend to retreat to a wall, often that same stone wall I was working behind. Now I was under strict instructions that I was not allowed to scare people, yet at the same time I was told to always be friendly. No problem! After the person had been scared they'd retreat back to that wall where I was working. I would (quietly) come up behind them, and then simply say "hi." Let me tell you, people never expected the guy hiding out behind the wall.

Now there were times where I would just give in and go all out for the scare. After listening to a bunch of teenage girls basically talking about how it wasn't at all scary and making fun of everything going on I decided that I just had to praticipate. On that one I got as low as I could and snuck around down the hill just a little bit. I layed low for a second, and then basically sprinted up the hill screaming. Needless to say, they didn't see me coming, and I ensured that they got the scare they they had paid for.

Not that any of you cared about my stories, but I enjoyed reminiscing and really that's all that matters.

I miss this every year, but I'm going to make it a point to do it this time!

I'm just a Colossus Fan period. I don't find the ride to be rough (at least not this year) I don't think the ride is boring, and I think it's one of the best wooden coasters in the state (not much competition there though.) Colossus Backwards in the front row (actual front row of the train so technically last row) is pure evil blinded air time down every drop! + the B&M trains are more comfortable than the Morgan trains (Too bad the didn't help Psyclone much.)

I'd hate to overrate the ride, but I'm going to do so anyways with my top 10.

01. Diamondback - Kings Island

02. Maverick - Cedar Point

03. Colossus (Backwards) - Six Flags Magic Mountain

04. Xcelerator - Knotts Berry Farm

05. Goliath - Six Flags Magic Mountain

06. Riddler's Revenge - Six Flags Magic Mountain

07. California Screamin' - Disney's California Adventure

08. X2 - Six Flags Magic Mountain

09. Medusa - Six Flags Discovery Kingdom

10. Magnum XL-200 - Cedar Point

But that's just me, you might find that you actually hate it backwards, but I've never heard anyone make that complaint yet.

I rode one backwards on Psyclone once. Don't remember which one (red, orange, or yellow), but it wasn't really that bad then. But Psyclone was only three years old at the time (Fright Fest 1994).

But after that year, SFMM never ran Psyclone backwards again.

^ Funny...when I ride Colossus backwards, I try to sit in what would be the front seat if the train is going forward (actually the back seat when the train is turned around) and don't usually get that rough a ride. It may depend on the train's load at the time or something else, but it's not the worst I've experienced.

^Last year the last day it was backwards was Nov. 2nd. This year I believe it will be Nov. 1st. When I went last night they had the train in the station. But they weren't running it. Probably not until next Saturday.

Okay so last night was Out on the Mountain. A LGBT night put on by Logo and Sponsored by Southwest Airlines. There was a live band. A DJ mixed music through the parks speakers. Which was really just an iPod with too short of a playlist. They originally only said that 5 coasters would be open. However, when we got there I asked a sup and was told that all rides except Rapids Tidal and Bunny World would be open.

Attendance was pretty good. Half of the second lot was full. Longest wait was about 20 minutes for X2. Which was running 2 trains. Terminator was running amazingly! I think it is settling very well. It's getting better everytime I ride it.

There was also a red carpet and search lights. For all of the queens.

It was another fantastic event at Magic Mountain. If anyone was wondering if they should go ... next year is a must. And you do not have to be gay to attend. Just as long as you are comfortable being around a bunch of homos.
