The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I don't think FlassPass will be available on Terminator---at least not yet. Honestly, I think that's a good thing because if that ride had it, the regular time will be incredibly long. With only two 22-passenger trains, waits will be long anyway unless they can load and dispatch quickly.

If Diana and I go this weekend, I may give the Q-Bot a try since I have the Xtreme Pass.

Why won't it give the $24.99 deal when it's still advertised on the website and it's not even the 22nd yet?

I just tried it, it still was giving me the $24.99 ticket price. Mybe they just don't like you lol.

What is the percentage discount for XFP for the Flash Pass, and does it apply to only 1 per person per unit?

My understanding is you don't get a certain percentage off, from what has been posted here in the past. What the discount is is you save the rental fee of $15 per Q-bot. That makes it about $19 per person (up to the six per Q bot) for regular, and up to $47 for the Gold (slightly less with more people)

Are you also getting the $29.99 deal, that lets you visit any day in 2009? I typed in a coupon code for that one because I was planning on visiting after this Friday, but our plans changed. I think since I typed in that coupon code, it isn't giving me the $24.99 deal.

I did the $24.99 ticket too and it came out to 29.99 with the 'print it out' service fee of $5. there were other options for ticket 'delivery' that cost different amounts like airmail/ground mail/ups etc. I chose to do the easy delivery and paid to use my printer.

** still no word on how the weekday crowds are recently? going on wednesday and wanted to see if anybody had some feedback on it.

I was just there last Monday and mostly everything (including Deja Vu) was a walk on. The longest we waited was for X2 and it was about an hour since they were only running one train. We decided to wait for the front row of Tatsu (also runnig one train) and we waited three cycles (about 20 minutes) I doubt it will be that much busier this wednesday.

I will be @ SFMM on the 30th. I had a question on how accommodating Tatsu is, for larger guests, in comparison to Batman or Riddler. Any info on suggested rides or particular seats for larger guests would be greatly appreciated.

Tatsu is considerably more accommodating than Riddler's or Batman. Scream has seating for larger guests, I believe it's the 4th row. I am a tight squeeze on Batman, requiring assistance from an employee to shove the restraint down far enough to buckle the safety belt. As of WCB '09, I couldn't get the restraint to close sufficiently on Riddler's. I can't think of any other coasters in the park I had any difficulty with because of my size.

Something kind of weird was going on tonight. When i was leaving the park at about 12:15 am the entire park was dark. The parking lot lights were off and most lights on all the coasters. It was pitch black. In fact the only lights i saw were the red ones on superman, and on the mcbr on goliath. Very strange, i've never seen anything like that in the 6 years ive been working there.

Very happy SFMM has officially stepped into the arena of immersive theming w/ Terminator Salvation: The Ride. Will they continue to do so with other current attractions? Specifically: Colossus, Scream!, & Goliath.

I've often wondered why the park hasn't created an area based in mythology. Like Terminator, this area could be based on the upcoming feature remake "Clash of the Titans"www.imdb.com/title/tt0800320/.

This area could take what Goliath has already established and run with it. Scream! would transform an existing parking lot with elaborate rock work, waterfalls, and lakes. Hey, If Kraken can do it.. They could center the theme around the sirens of the sea, making the name Scream! still relevant.

Colossus would be awesome after being re-tracked (GCI or Intamin) and removing the mid-course block brake. The station could be transformed into Mt. Olympus and the trains would be the gods. The "gods" would also race or duel every time. An encounter with a Minotaur (Expedition Everest) could be the finale!

On a similar note: Ninja could also be themed to "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon". Even include a Manta-esque splash effect on it's first pass over Jet Stream's lake.

These improvements would give SFMM the Hollywood tie-in and add years to the shelf life of these classic attractions. I'd love to see my favorite park be great once again! Anyone want to render these concepts?

This was my first official post and I read all the rules beforehand. I hope I didn't blow it.

This is Six Flags we're talking about. They're not gonna heavily theme all their coasters although some more rides MAY recieve an X2-style upgrade in the near future. (Hopefully Colossus and Scream)

As a former "rider of size" heres my 2 cents...

Tatsu - I'd say as long as you can fit on Riddler you should be fine on Tatsu. The main issue is that there is a sensor that has to be satisfied. So even if the restraint locks, it may not be down far enough. Just make sure you are sitting ALL the way back in the seat with your legs back first. Of course you can always go up the exit and ask to try the seat.

Superman - If the person in question is both tall and large, be sure to sit in the second row on the outside, this gives a little more knee room. Again there is a sensor on there to make sure the bars are down far enough. If you look to the loading side, you'll see a green light flash on the co-dispatch panel when the bars are down far enough.

Colossus - Theres a yellow line painted on the metal "step" into the train and a matching line on the lap bar. The one on the lap bar must pass the one on the step (about 3 clicks). I notice some ops are better at checking this than others.

Scream - As mentioned there are "big boy" seats in rows 4 and 5. If you can fit on Batman, I wouldnt worry about it tho, as the seats on Scream seem to be a little more accommodating.

Just a random note...

Out of the three Batmans I have been on (SFMM, SFOT, SFGAm), SFMMs seems to have the shortest belts.

I've noticed it only go off for 1 train before. That might be why you didn't get it on your run. At West Coast Bash it was only running for one train so ever other ride was fireless.

I got two rides on Friday, so I think it was off all day. But thanks for clearing that up, guys.

Also, how crowded does the park usually get the last week of August and first week of September on a weekday? The park's official site says they're is open 10:30-6, so I don't think it'll be that crowded, but I'd like to get some input here, too.

I would think right around that time (the end of summer) it'd be either really busy, everyone getting their last rides in, or empty, because everyone's already gotten their rides in and are back into "school mode". A lot of schools are already in at that time, too. I'd say you'd be fine, because I've gone in September before and it was actually a pretty good time to go (crowd and weather-wise).
