coasterlvr
Holiday in the Park opening night!! Theme Park Review was invited to experience opening night of Holiday in the Park. We got to sample all the foods that will be available during "Taste of the Holidays Food Festival". It runs Dec. 15th-30th. I believe it will be one of those punch card type deals. SFMM really looks impressive this year. There are next to no spots that aren't lit up. New this year is Merry Lane in Metropolis. Huge ball ornaments dominate the landscape with colorful light shows. Of course it snows here too every 20 minutes I believe. Santa's Cottage is also new this year. It's located in front of Bugs Bunny World. Santa's there of course being it's his cottage, and there's crafts for children also. Santa even got to meet some Kardashian's while we were there tonight. On to some pictures! Food! More food! And More Food! This was my favorite. Chicken and Waffle. Real crispy tender chicken nugget. The waffle is like infused with syrup. So rich and delicious! Hot chocolate to go with a peppermint brownie and pork cranberry slider. After losing the world series bet to SFNE, Neal had to wear a Red Sox jersey all day along with naming Revolution to Red Sox Revolution. San Onofre at SFMM Orange ball Blue ball 4 balls Someone stepped on a plug. Entrance to the Gleampunk District S'Mores Peppermint Bark, and S'more Root Beer Cake Peppermint Pudding Parfait. Bacon Pecan Yams Prociutto Mac and Cheese. I think that's a typo, but that's what the card said. SFMM is selling these cute little guys for charity. A buy one give one. They will donate one with every purchase. There are a number of different ones to choose from. SFMM is selling these cute little guys for charity. A buy one give one. They will donate one with every purchase. There are a number of different ones to choose from. That's some of the most fun I've had at SFMM besides West Coast Bash. And I didn't even ride one ride! Not even the bus after parking in the gravel lot. There was a good sized car show in the parking lot, KROQ I believe had extended hours for their fans, and first night of Holiday in the Park had the place jam packed. Everyone seemed to be in such a good mood. It really was a great first night of Holiday in the Park. Look forward to getting back soon!! Big thanks to everyone at SFMM for their hospitality! KarlaKoaster
Thanks for all the pictures, it actually looks like a really nice event. I know people love to hate Six Flags, and I know this is damning them with faint praise, but it looks a hundred times better than anything Merlin would do for example, at least in the UK parks. Six Flags does an excellent job with their Holiday in the Park events. Dare I say I even prefer it to Knott's Merry Farm. Thanks for the report. HITP is my favorite time of the year at Magic Mountain. It's not insanely hot, the lights are amazing, and it's easier to get night rides! Can't wait to go in December. Coastin' thru life
Me and the wife went last night( saturday) as well..the park looks amazing..merry lane is a cool addition...used our skip a lines for Tatsu and Twisted, both were relentless. Those were the only rides we hit and they were both running well and fast, tho didnt get the tatsu train with the lights. Everyone including all the staff we encountered really seemed to be in the holiday spirit. I dont think ive ever had a more pleasent experience at the Mountain. Go Six Flags! You really hit it out of the park this year, i hope this trend continues....havent been to Merry Farm yet but i thought Fright Fest was better than Scary Farm this year so saying HITP might be better than Merry Farm doesnt seem like to much of a stretch...nice trip report by the way, pictures are great, and ill have to try those chicken and waffles next visit. Thanks for sharing. all that food looks delicious too. . in particular the Peppermint Brownie (tho the Chicken and Waffle looks so moist and yummy too). LOL. . Six Flags must have bought those walk-thru giant Ornament balls in Bulk. Fiesta, Tx has one too
Canobie Coaster
^ I think SFNE had them last year too.
Sluggo77
Yup SFNE had a large red one last year. Definitely got a lot of attention as a photo spot. James Reid-Anderson was at SFNE checking out everything during the media day last year. Looks like Great Adventure added them this year too. SFMM looks great. Thanks for the report! Twistedtatsu805
So, i was looking on the six flags website considering getting the season flash pass and I noticed it said something about locking in 2018 rates before their "huge increase." Curious, does anyone know how much memberships are going up next year?
RaceBoarder
Interesting choice of words... SF always has a huge "MSRP" on their passes that you NEVER have to pay... I'd say that this is just an empty marketing threat. But you might see a ~$100-150 increase in the season FP rate come January. It will cost more, but still will be at a discounted rate compared to the "MSRP" of Season FP...
Nrthwnd
A Question.....about next year's new coaster..... Is next year's new racing coaster at the Mountain, the newest mobius coaster, ever built in the USA? I know of a couple over in Europe, one being the wooden racing coaster, Grand National, in Blackpool. And the wooden racing coaster, Montana Rusa, in La Feria Chapultepec Magico, Mexico, is a mobius, too. How many mobius coasters are there still in the world and still operating? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Nrthwnd
^ Thanks! And it looks like I've only been on the two I mentioned before. But I still thought the Racers was a mobius loop coaster? From the description of the cycle, and the concept video shown, I was sure it was some kind of mobius loop. A steel one, but still a mobius one. West Coast Racers will operate exactly like Twisted Colossus where you ride both sides every ride, however whether it's mobius or not is debatable since you do not unload after riding one side. I've heard the term quasi-mobius thrown around, if you want to get technical lol
JG-77
I've heard the term quasi-mobius thrown around, if you want to get technical lol Yeah that's what RCDB calls it. The only other coaster not at SFMM that's in this category according to RCDB is some defunct ride that operated in the late 1800s. Of course that should be taken with a grain of salt, as RCDB's lists of rides in certain categories are rarely exhaustive.
Canobie Coaster
I had some questions on the Flash Pass and from past experience, I know the page on the Six Flags sites is sometimes not up-to-date. 1) Was Superman taken off the Flash Pass at Magic Mountain? I remember it used to be one time only with Platinum, but I no longer even see Superman on the page. 2) Is the upcharge fee of $15 gone for X2? 3) Are X2, Full Throttle, and Twisted Colossus still one time only? After seeing that for Twisted Cyclone on the site and then discovering they allowed unlimited rides, I wanted to check. 4) Is CraZanity on the Flash Pass? I don't see it listed, but I saw a few posts mentioning they went up the exit. I plan to gauge crowds before buying one, but these could impact my plan of attack. DBru
Filled out the new rides survey for SFMM today. Anyone know if the dive coaster questions were asked for all the Six Flags surveys or just specific to Magic Mountain?
