aeyrolet
If they were to remove it however, I'd much prefer another large multi-looper in its place than a dive machine. Possibly an Intamin that takes the inversion record or sets some other records like viper did. Why? Doesn't SFMM have enough inversions as it is? In fact they hold the record for most inversions at a theme park with 36. King's Island comes in 2nd place at 25... SFMM already has 11 MORE inversions than any other park. I'd argue that they should move away from inversions, not get ANOTHER multi-looper cough...ScreamRiddler'sViperBatmanTatsu...cough. Starting next year, they will actually have 37 inversions as the Flash builds a loop in the JL:BFM Ride. "Loopty Loop coming up!" But is it really an inversion? Let's argue about that for the next 6 months! First Rule of The Justice League: Don't question members of the Justice League. If The Flash says hes going to build a Loopty Loop, than you are going to be flying through a Loopty Loop!
jray21
I would not shed a single tear if Viper was removed. Rode it on Saturday. It's not great. Not at all. Personally I think a Dive Machine would look BAD-ASS sitting on top of that hill! It would be like Tatsu where that lift hill feels so insanely tall due to the change in elevation. I agree! It was an incredible ride when it first came out but it's way too painful now. The drop and the first loop are really great, but the rest is torture. Well, by removing Viper you lose 7 of those inversions and to pay homage to the ride in some way. Was it not the fastest looping coaster in the world with the tallest loop in the world when it opened? I don't see why Six flags couldn't try to take the crown from Lewa Adventure and build something along the lines of Flash there. That provides the Inversions and the airtime. I know Mack built that not Intamin, but I was thinking more on those lines with some Skyrush style airtime. Edit* My first post was supposed to say inversion height record, oops. coasterbill
Oh my god the park doesn't care about the stupid inversion record. It won't play into their decision making process at all.

Myself
Am I the only one who thinks it'd be cool to have Chance come in and give Viper the Phantom's Revenge treatment?
SFMMGeek27
Out with Viper. I still think it's super fun and pretty smooth but it's nothing like the modern coasters being installed everywhere now. People like to place the name "classic" on a lot of things that are really just junk, and that's not just with coasters.

ytterbiumanalyst
I rode Viper for the first time at WCB. I have no nostalgia for this ride at all, but I do love Arrow loopers. I'm a fan of Demon at SFGAm and Vortex at Kings Island. That said, I couldn't get into Viper. I did like the first drop and the three vertical loops. At that point it was still good. Not smooth, but still good. Right after that, it became hell. So really I wouldn't mind if it were replaced. There's not a lot other than X2 to being people to that side of the park. A dive coaster would be great, since the closest one to y'all is Valravn. But really any modern coaster would be an upgrade. An airtime machine would be nice, as Twisted Colossus is really the only one you have.
Wingwright
I'm all in favor of a Viper replacement. It was a legend in it's time, but it has seen better days. They could fit something really great in that spot.

I'd love that idea, take out the inversions and turn it into an airtime machine. The California Gods won't allow it. That state went well beyond it's airtime allowance between TC and Joker. Don't expect any new airtime for the next 25 years.
joshfreund
Why would they remive a coaster. That would leave them stuck at 19, unless they added another kiddie coaster that would open at the same time or 1st for the big giga dive coaster to be #
Jew
Just the the fact that Viper survived so long should be a testament to SFMM's maintenance department being able to do some good things. The ride is from Arrow's "coat hanger" design era with the smaller loops and weird transitions, so I imagine it has been tearing itself apart for years. I won't be sad to see it go if the replacement is a Dive Machine!

coasterlvr
screw that magic mountain coaster count. when they have so many kiddie coasters, short, and crap coasters, it doesn't mean anything. i just want solid, well running coasters that aren't 1,000 feet long. lol
Mr. Corn
I've been to this park many times, and I can say, its defenitly quanity over quality. Cedar Point has 4/5 outstanding rides: Millie, Maverick, Top Thrill, (Magnum), and Gatekeeper. And we have 4, maybe 5, so we have a good chance at beating them lineup wise in the future quite honestly. Here's my wish list: +Dive Replacing Viper (sorry) +Mack Family Multi-Launcher replacing Gold Striker +Ghostrider style redo of Apocolypse +Remove Scream (maybe send it to SFstL, or SFA) and put in a Sally Corp Steampunk themed dark ride +Retheme Samuri Summit +RMC Hyper or Giga +Bugs Bunny Boomtown +New Shows +Cannibal Style Coaster +Refresh in the food department

SFMMGeek27
They still need to finish the retrack on Apocalypse though. If they get the first half anywhere like they got the second half, this ride will be amazing again.

am1500
Am I the only one who thinks it'd be cool to have Chance come in and give Viper the Phantom's Revenge treatment? Nope! That would be absolutely dope! The park could save serious $ by keeping the initial investment in the 188 ft tall lift hill and then let Chance create its own version of Phantom's Revenge on the west coast. And, the ride could probably achieve the iconic +200 ft second drop with the big drop-off just to the north of the ride's plot of land. I was super impressed with my rides on Lightning Run when I visited Kentucky Kingdom (just as impressed as with my Storm Chaser rides). It's not the biggest or fastest, but LR's extremely strong/snappy airtime hills and turns (at the fast pace it pulls each element) is one of the most awesomely unique coaster experiences in the US. It was much different than the pace and feel to how Storm Chaser executed its (also amazing) turns and airtime hills. If Chance were given even just 3500 ft of track after the first drop, I think the result could be one of the most amazing hyper coasters (looping or not) that is unlike anything else in the country. I really love how Magic Mountain has trended towards re-imagining its more iconic coasters as opposed to ripping them out and putting in something new (aka: X2, Superman, Twisted Colossus, New Revolution). Given how iconic Viper has been for Magic Mountain, I think it'd be a great candidate for a re-investment into Viper's Vengeance rather than just putting a new coaster from one of the more well-known manufacturers. (Yah, I really like Viper )
