The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Pfft...that's just a cash grab for the parks....

I agree. (Feel nickel and dimed to death). I'd be okay with paying like 10'bucks with the ability to drop in and out of all the sets near rides...

We have that at Six Flags St. Louis. Does Magic Mountain not have the floating fluffy bunnies?

^^ from the website...

LOC-KERS - Guests will find loc-kers available for all-day rental in the Six Flags Plaza. Loc-kers are also available at select attractions for limited time storage of loose articles.

lockers

There. I said it. Sort of.

What St. Louis has is a system where you can pay once and sign in and sign out to the fluffy bunnies near each ride as you want. So they're all day, but always near you. The question is really whether Magic Mountain has that system, or whether you have to pay individually for each fluffy bunny rental near the rides.

Any idea what the "other company" is that we're sharing the park with on Saturday night, or what kind of attendance numbers they'll be contributing?

I know that local radio station KROQ is giving away tickets for that date. I cant imagine they are giving away enough to make a dent in attendance, but they do seem to be promo blasting out a crap load of them.

Hi there everyone.. I've been stalking these boards for a few weeks as I prepare a trip to SFMM for my family and my sisters family. The 8 of us heading there this coming Saturday from AZ. We are originally from the valley, and had season passes in years gone by.. but it's been 15-20 years since either my sister or I have been.. Looking forward to everything new. So, pretty much everything. As much as I'd love to be hitting up the Log Jammer and Freefall (two of my all-time favorites), and a quick trip around Swiss Twist and Spin-Out... I guess Goliath, TC, and X2 will have to do.

I've taken my kids to Disney so many times, and I always can find reviews online for best tips and tricks to get around the park most efficiently, avoid congestion, etc.. but can't find anything on MM.. crazy!

So, I have a couple questions for you locals:

I have seen in previous posts that attendance is down in general this summer... Will the fires keep even more people away this weekend you think?

How are the fires? And air quality, etc.. ?

Thanks for any help and advice!

I wouldnt worry about lines during the evening ERT due to the other company. It's the entire park, so I'm sure it will be more than enough room for everyone. I'm grateful, cause we wouldn't have the whole park otherwise!

While attendance is down, it's not by much. They just aren't hitting the lofty projections that they had based on last year. Last year was the first year in a while that the park actually crossed 3 million visitors and they are down from that number so far. However, day to day it really only translates to a few hundred or a thousand less visitors per day which isn't significant enough to really notice. Anyhow...

...The fire, while yes it started off the 14 right on the edge of Santa Clarita, I don't think has had much of an effect on attendance. For the most part, besides one day when the 14 closed, there have been no major road closures that would effect the park. Beyond that, the wind has been pretty consistently blowing south and east meaning Santa Clarita (especially on the other side of the valley where Magic Mountain is located) has been spared the majority of the smoke and ash. Granted, that isn't to say that the air quality is great because its super hazy and smoke doesn't have to be distinctly visible for it to be an issue.

TL;DR, you're going on a Saturday so it will be the highest attended day of the week no matter and it will be busy. If you are particularly sensitive to bad air quality than take the necessary precautions.

HEY SIX FLAGS!!!. Why arent you using your massive property to help with the fire?...evacuation spot, seeing as how all the others are getting full or chased out by the fire...do something right for once...god forbid you have to close for a day or two, people shouldnt be out at amusement parks in this horrible air anyway....im sure the residents of santa clarita are at least a notable portion of MM's income, how about giving back?......no? ...didnt think so

I guess you have yet to see the gravel portion of the parking lot as you must valet or hdcp park only. Six Flags always steps up huge for the community of SCV and technically they aren't in the SCV (tax reasons) but in LA County.

A large portion of gravel has been turned into a mini city for So Cal Edison Emergency crews and in a sense you can now say SFMM now has restrooms in the parking lot.

i don't think there is evening ERT. seems like the extended 4 hour night is the replacement with the buyout. i haven't been to one of those since green lantern was new. so no idea what crowds will be like at night. only thing i remember was riding apocalypse or might have been terminator still while my friends waited for deja vu.

I think he was talking about the buy out when he was saying evening ERT.

And really, it is ERT, it's just ERT on every single ride in the park!

i get what you're saying. i just expect it to be pretty crowded with Hallelujah Jubilee, but the extra hours will be awesome. it's often a day i like to go for the extended hours. most poop out and yes, that last hour or so is pretty bare. think i need to plan where to take a nap during the day sometime.

I will have a full midsummer scream trip report soon, but until then, Six Flags announced some new offerings for Fright Fest this year...

The big news is that Gotham City will be home to the Suicide Squad this year!

IMG_3487.thumb.JPG.43748d71ffed2ded2ce2c4fec7069c56.JPG

They also announced "Aftermath 2: Chaos Rising" will be coming to Psyclone Bay and be the largest maze they have ever done at 40,000sqft!

Isn't Hallelujah Jubilee usually THEE busiest day of the year?

No, that's Key Club Day a.k.a. Fall Rally South. (11/12 this year - http://www.cnhkeyclub.org/events/fall-rally)

But how busy this day is shouldn't matter to us at all, because between morning ERT and evening Buyout/ERT, we should have plenty of time to ourselves.

Omg... I made the horrific mistake of going on Key Club Day last year. I'm still scarred.

Sorry to hear that; that's why I try to post periodic reminders of when it's going to be so that TPR members don't accidentally stumble on it like that.

I've heard that even Flash Pass isn't a big help for Key Club day. Is that true?

I've never heard that..maybe they're just talking about the regular flash pass. The gold or platinum flash passes would always be a help because they cut whatever the wait is by 50-90%, but if you know you're going that day, I strongly recommend buying the flash pass online ahead of time because they are likely to sell out.
