The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

^ Or better yet, get RMC to design trains for it!

That would make a lot of sense actually for RMC to keep working with SFMM right after a spectacular TC debut.....

"Hire us to revamp Colossus, and we will throw in new cars for Revolution for cheap!"

Actually, they could use the current cars by replacing the shoulder harnesses with seatbelts under the current lapbars.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's highly unnecessary. Normal lab bars should suffice.

The original Revolution trains had normal lap bars. Why did they later install shoulder restraints? If it was for insurance purposes, than replacing the shoulder restraints with seat belts should do the trick.

If I remember correctly, they added OTSRs because there were a lot of people who didn't have their head back when going into the loop creating and because of that, many complaints were made.

I believe they added the OTSR because too many people were trying to stand up during the ride since the lap bars are so small and don't constrict you to the seat.

Gold Rusher? Those bars are even worse.

Should be interesting to see how often they update it. I know at Hershey they call the operator about every 20-30mins to refresh the wait times. I would assume a similar situation would take place here.

The wait times on the Hershey app were the best that I've seen at any park. If SF can get anything close to the Hershey app, then I will be very happy.

Everland & their water-park have the best apps for queue times and it also displays opening times for rides so you know when something is going to be open in only the morning or afternoon etc. I believe it's linked to the digital information boards, so whenever the rides queue time is changed, they have the display boards updated and the app will sync up.

An example from Halloween (one of their busiest periods) 2 years ago, when they were doing half-day operations:

Hi folks, (sorry in advance for re-post)

Just after an idea here. Does anyone know based off past experience what the week before Easter is like crowd wise? Also, is the park likely to return to full 7 day a week operations in that week next year? Easter is early in 2016 (end of march), and the two times I have visited previously have been in roughly the third week of March and the last week of weekend only operation (meaning they returned to full time operation the following weekend). But in both those years (2012 & 2014 Easter a few weeks away).

Returning again in 2016, but want to start getting an idea of schedule as we are only overseas in the US for about 10 nights, and 4 of those we are in Vegas.

Cheers!!

In 2015, Magic Mountain was open everyday from March 21 thru the summer, and was very crowded from Saturday March 28 thru Saturday March 11. In 2016, Easter is Sunday March 27. If they are open the week before Easter in 2016, the crowds should not be that bad, but I would not book your trip until they actually announce that they will be open that week.

LA Unified's Spring Break is March 21-25, I think you could be pretty certain they will be open that week as it is the largest school district in the area.

That's cool about the Ride wait times. I check the Ride Hopper app when i'm at the park but not many people use it plus its 99 cents now. I'm surprised MM wants to do this. Why would they want to show off their lack of ride operator skill and care for making the line move fast lol. They are happy with constantly showing Tatsu is 45min-1 hour running only one side always? Or Apocalypse being an hour 1/2 because only 1 train is working? Or Superman is only running 1 side when they can run two. Interesting. You would think they wouldn't want to do that.

So ...Larson Loop announced tomorrow? I can live with that, because despite SF calling it a coaster, we sure could use a new flat or two!

i think it would be awesome if they announced a pressure washer! haha even the back of the TC trains last week look like they haven't been cleaned since, ever.

I still think its something to do with Revolution

That's what I'm hoping for. Close Revolution for refurb and paint later this year, order/build new trains minus the OTSRs (and the brake if I'm really dreaming), reopen it on or about 5/8/2016 for a 50th anniversary grand reopening. For me that would the best possible announcement, better than any new coaster or attraction.

With the anniversary coinciding with TC being the most marketable new coaster in a long time, there's no better time than now.

I'm on board with the Revolution rehab with new trains. I have so many great memories of riding it when I was a kid and now I won't go near it. A new flat and the Revolution rehab would be a great announcement, IMO.

The best thing the park could do IMO is restore and then keep restoring. They did a great job restoring X to X2, and then Superman and Lex Luthor, and then with Colossus last year! If they restored Revolution with new OTSR-less trains and then took off some trims, I would be beyond excited! I also think Cyclone Bay is in need of an overhaul, but I'd honestly prefer something for Revolution right now.

Just over a month until I get to go to this coaster mecca. Can't wait to finally be able to debate both sides in those Cedar Point vs Magic Mountain threads.

And ride that new RMC, and that flyer, and X2, and Lex Luther... Yeah, this is gonna be good.
