The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

^ I think you just found out thanks to me (on a Youtube comment, right?), and I for myself read it here, thanks to Namttub a few posts earlier. I guess we have come full circle!

i also heard it on some commercial around the time they announced the new rides for 2015. can't remember what commercial though.

Alright I need some honesty here. I love going on any coaster. I have found myself very found of Cedar Fair parks and feeling that the park is well maintained and somewhat clean. As a Midwesterner I went to Six Flags Great America a few years ago and a few of the coasters I didn't even feel safe getting on as there were several broken seats. I also thought it looked as if American Eagle is being left to rot, but still running as is. I wasn't impressed with the staff either. Granted it's hard for anyone to live upto Disney or Holiday World, but it was terrible. Is there any reason to expect differently at Magic Mountain. I am really on super limited time in California. I love coasters and know SFMM is the coaster capital of the west. Be real and let me know what's up. Thanks!

If you ask SFMM, west = world

With that said, SFMM as a whole is actually not bad in terms of cleanliness. It's relatively rare that I feel the park is dirty. Lots of trees for the most part, lots of seating all over.

The rides for the most part are also clean/safe looking.... except for the leg restraints on Tatsu, the rest of the restraints on the rides are pretty good.

The part that they lack in is the operations of the park... frequent ride closures, random ride closures, some rides worse than others (X2, Superman are particularly finicky).

If you haven't been, it's worth a trek for sure!

Most of my issues with Magic Mountain have been with how the park and rides are operated in general, and in the past the staff was less than satisfactory. That said, I have never felt unsafe at the park. I know exactly what you are talking about with Great America and having multiple broken seats on each train at several rides, and I thought that looked horrible.

At Magic Mountain, while rides might be down because of various issues/not having the staff to get everything going on time, I've never felt that I was in any kind of danger on a ride that was open for operation.

Not sure if that helps, but that's been my experience.

There's video on IG of people riding Twisted Colossus, so jealous!!

Have they started racing trains yet?

A friend of mine was at the park today and he told me they were racing them today. He got a video he'a gonna upload later.

Here are my suggestions:

1. Don't ride any coaster or attraction that you are too tall, wide or thick for the restraints or if you are missing limbs.

2. Don't climb fences to retrieve lucky hats or other dropped items.

3. Don't get a job there and walk or pass over coaster tracks.

If you follow that advice that I can guarantee you that your odds should be 1,000,000,000 to 1 that you die in the car trip there instead of on a coaster That said, I doubt Magic Mountain is any degree of being nicer than Great America. Maybe a little bit and it does have more coasters.

As a side note, are the trains supposed to be a bit "out of sync" like that? Seems like the blue's slightly ahead of the green.

The blue track definitely seems to have a bit more pace towards the end. I think the zero g stall slows the green side down a bit. Still can't wait to ride!!

^Looks sick... Can only imagine what it'll look like once they release a POV!

To me they looked impressively close, even though they were not in perfect synchronization. If the ride always runs like it does in the video I'd be happy. Keep in mind the video is the end of the ride. Like Superbatboy said, the green fell behind a bit on the stall. I bet the high five on that run was pretty dang close.

i saw alan say that if they leave the lift at the same time, they should actually cross 4 times.

looks very exciting seeing them dual like that!
