wrs28330
Jahan would know about guest count, but there is no literature promoting the new sky tower. However, the MCs at the opening ceremony mention it to the crowd, and pretty soon the "Family attractions" guide will promote the exhibit.
RIP Psyclone
Has the Sky Tower been crowded with the new additions? And is there a sign explaining that it is a museum now? ^It is a little crowded up there, but that's a small price to pay. Some of the windows are now inaccessable due to exhibits and other things, but you still have a 360 degree view of the park, pretty much. I can't stop thinking how cool of an idea this museum was, and to use a Disney term, the Sky Tower has definately been "plussed". Brandon Bruce had the idea, senior park management liked it, and the employees all came together, donated stuff, and made it happen. Now, that's synergy! robbalvey
I was at the park today. Instead of doing a new update, I just added a few pics to William's update on page 355. Check them out there! http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26782&start=3540 --Robb
Mr Stratosphere
Thanks for the pics Robb!! It's nice to see the mountain getting some TLC! One question, how did Jet Stream work when they had both of the chutes open, what was the reasoning behind that?? John
Jew
^It looked cool? There was a switch right before the drop. Basically just a wall that went back and forth.
RIP Psyclone
With Spin Out gone this opens up quite a big area. And if they demolish the Dragon station they'd have an ever bigger plot of land. I still think a transportation system for that side of Samurai Summit would be great, so it's a shame Dragon lasted only 7 years, 1974-1981. With all of the improvements taking place, one thing that management said they likely will not do is spend lots of money on a ride or attraction that can't really be marketed, like Metro. But, like Mark Shapiro said, we need to be patient. If all of these improvements pay off for Six Flags, we can all look forward to even greater things in the future. PURE
Could Spin Out and the Dragons old station possibly be enough room for the station of the new 2009 roller coaster? We know its not going back by Deja Vu, ever since I heard that out I've been trying to think where the heck they're going to be putting it. The Three Point Challenge looks like a lot of fun, and like the update said, guests smiling and having a good time is definitely a good sign. RIP Psyclone
^I'm hoping for Flashback's spot. I've said it before, that's just me being selfish because I'm not a fan of water parks. However, I think Deluge is cool, so I hope they fit it in somehow. If they could somehow get both into that area, that would be great. But when you remove a flat ride like Sierra Twist, you're leaving a space that could only fit another flat ride. If Sierra Twist's space ends up as benches, or another Papa John's or Johnny Rockets, I guess I'd be a little disappointed.
Mr Stratosphere
LOL! But did it do anything for capacity? Did anyone ride it while both drops were open? ^It looked cool? Tmcdllr
Why did they change Jet Stream to use only 1 drop instead of both?
AllenA07
Could Spin Out and the Dragons old station possibly be enough room for the station of the new 2009 roller coaster? I had this same thought the pother day, if the park did remove the old dragon station, and used the surrounding hill side, I think there might be enough room there for a small to medium size coaster. ebl
For whatever reason, Arrow's Hydro Flume (of which Jet Stream was the first, I believe) used the twin down chutes. Yankee Clipper at SFGAm (and used to be at CGA) was the same way, as is the one at Hersheypark, and no doubt others. Even back in 1972 when I saw Jet Stream for the first time, I wondered about the reasoning behind it. It never made sense to have two chutes when one would have worked fine. And I never understood why the original "ski jump" at the bottom was removed later on. Eric
Ryan King
All I can say Is...Wow Jay, You were right! The Three-Point Basketball Challenge WAS going to grab A LOT of attention! At first, I didn't think a Basketball Challenge game would really grab my attention, but by the looks of it, it seems to already be a big hit! But really, I'm really looking forward to ALL of the improvements that are in store for Magic Mountain. I was there for the Spain DVD Party, and heard Jay, Neil & Tim speak for the first time during the Q&A. They had a bunch of amazing ideas in store for SFMM. But afterwards, I do recall myself saying "You can talk the talk but you gotta walk the walk." And during this last visit, damn, you guys are walking the walk! I love the improvements and I love the enthusiasm! Work is being done and Magic Mountain is looking sharp! Keep it up! -Ryan King P.S. I look forward to riding X2 Very Soon!!! They could dispatch a boat of off the rotating platform every couple of seconds but they had to drop them down the double chute to space out the boats. Here take a look... ebl
^ I see what you're saying. It's just that I can remember the attendant at the top of the drops waiting for the boat to get all the way down and past a certain point before releasing the next boat---which would occur anyway even with a single chute. And the Loggers Run flumes at both Great Americas have the turntable, with a double drop chute, but I don't think they're considered HydroFlumes...unless they were, only using logs instead of the boats, and not having that "ski jump" thing at the bottom like Jet Stream (and their own Yankee Clipper) had. RIP Psyclone
I guess the dual drops is similar to Tatsu's twin loading stations, even if neither one can speed up what is safe. It's just being able to have another one ready to go. With Tatsu's being so slow to unload/load/dispatch, it does help, but I can see how it made little difference with Jet Stream. nagro5
This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway. What is a "ski jump?" Does anyone have a picture of it that I can look at?
RIP Psyclone
^At the bottom of the drop it curved upwards, like a ski jump: Well, more of a "bump" at the bottom of the hill than a jump, obviously, but you get the idea.

Eric When I worked there in 2001, the drop person didn't have to dispatch. We just watched and reset when we had to. Don't know if that was always the case. montezooma
Here are four pictures. In the Arrow brochure you can see in the upper left hand corner picture the boat as it is passing over the Hydro bump. There is also a description of the bump in the brochure verbage. And just for kicks there is also a picture of the Jet Stream in its very early days, notice the color of the Sky Tower. In the last picture, the same type of flume ride at Great Adventure, you can really see the hydrojump at the base of the drop The Hydro Jump
astroworldfan1
^ Is the Sky Tower white in that picture? Jetstreams control pannel looks brand new. I would have never known it came off of Freefall. nagro5
Thanks for the pics montezooma. I wonder why they took out the hydro bump. I looks like it would give some good airtime. Is the Sky Tower white in that picture? Yes it is. In its earlier days it was white, but as time went by they painted it red.
