The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Not sure how big you are but superman will be tough. Goliath probably not so much

Are they the newer intamin OTSR's? Because those didn't seem to be a problem for me at Busch Gardens a few months ago.

I believe they are considered the newer ones. I've never seen anyone with a problem on it. Goliath should be no problem either. On X2 you're fine as long as the seat isnt broken, some of them dont go up and only fit small people, but even then you can just pick a different seat usually. If you're also really tall you may have trouble fitting into Gold Rusher's train, that's the only one I can think of. Now that you mention it I think SFMM's rides are pretty accommodating to larger guests. I cant really remember ever seeing someone get the walk of shame. Maybe Batman depending on how big you are, I've seen it on Flight Deck which has the same restraints.

Thanks man. I've had zero problems with flight deck, just fits a little snug.

Now can anyone describe what the weekday crowds are usually like? Or maybe a strategy to hitting most of the coasters. Dont really care about scream or riddlers. Just going for my x2, yolo, Goliath and Colossus credits. Anything else that I get to ride is a bonus.

A few key points for the marathon riders:

Each hour, riders will ride for 45 minutes with a 15 minute break. At 3 a.m., the park will move you to the “other” wooden coaster, Apocalypse, for three hours while Colossus receives its regularly-scheduled maintenance. At 6 a.m., you’ll be back on Colossus to finish the marathon.

Riders will be required to sign a medical waiver. If rider is under 18 years old, support person must be a parent or guardian and will be required to sign the medical waiver on the rider’s behalf.

The park will provide regularly-scheduled meals to the riders throughout the marathon. Any special dietary needs are the responsibility of the rider and will be allowed to be brought in.

Each participant is allowed to bring one “support” person. This person will be asked to wait in an area next to the ride and will be available to supply their marathon rider with any additional food and drink throughout the duration of the marathon.

Marathon riders will be encouraged to document their marathon experience on social media during the 36 hours. Prizes will be awarded for best posts during the event.

Additional information will be provided to riders by the park in a follow up e-mail.

Good luck to everyone who applies!

Hey guys, I'll be attending SFMM for my second time (first visit in 2010) tomorrow. My home park is SFGAdv, and I know in the morning there is a mad rush to Kingda Ka and Zumanjaro. My last visit to SFMM I was only able to get on 8 coasters. This time, I will have the regular flash pass, and I was wondering if there were any tips you all had to avoid the crowd flow (what rides are mobbed in the morning/afternoon/all-day. Also, is there a specific direction the crowd moves in the park, (i.e. Left side-to-right side, front-to-back)?. Amy help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for all your help!

^Run to YOLO Coaster.

Pick up your flash pass.

Ride whatever you choose, I would personally head back to Goliath and work my way counter clockwise.

Ride X2 later in the day.

Yeah this is generally the correct strategy. The back of the park tends to be deserted in the morning since most people start with YOLOCoaster and X2 and work their way back, if you do the opposite, you'll move faster. Going on a weekday will help too. If you want to ride Ninja I would recommend riding that early too since it may not be on the flash pass since it is on one-train ops and the line just gets longer as they day goes on.

Sounds like the credit is going to elude me. Too bad I cannot be there the day before to start the marathon. A marathon sounds awesome.

Since I have an allergy to high food prices I was wondering if you think it would be possible to order pizza to magic mountain drop off circle and save money. I am pretty sure they do not charge for parking when you are just dropping off someone.

This seems incredibly tone deaf and pointless, no? What's the point of this? It literally sounds like they're trying to convey that "hey, we'd have to PAY you to ride this ride for an extended amount of time!!"

Am I the only one confused by the elaborate nature of this? And what exactly do they do during the three hour "scheduled" break?

Also: why are they using a @gmail.com gmail address for the contact? Seems like amateur hour, right?

They will open Apocalypse while Colossus is getting its daily inspection.

Thanks, I wasn't paying attention to the actual length of the marathon, and that they'd be mandated to actually stop the ride to do their usual inspection(s).

That's a bit of a haul from the front to the back of the park -- and I'm guessing people basically sitting for hours on end will probably have leg cramps, right? I'm assuming they'll have golf carts or something? Or maybe now I'm over thinking it!

My heart goes out to all those poor souls that will be riding Colossus for this event. Hopefully they have paramedics on standby. Good news is that a few chiropractors in the area should gain a bit of business.
