The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Look at their last three coaster additions. Sad....just sad.

I guess they're just trying to appeal to their clientele. Seems to be profitable. Build gimmicky and kid coaster, claim dumb records such as largest loop on Yolo, and ignore flats. I hope other parks don't follow their lead.

I'd give them credit if they convert Colossus into one large coaster with the RM treatment. Lets see what happens.

I'd like to remind everyone that it had been announced that a new kiddie coaster was on the way a long while ago, this is just the official announcement of what the park is getting, so its not like the fact that they're getting another awful kiddie coaster is brand new.

We should also remember that with this addition, they are claiming the 'world record' for most kiddie coasters in a park. In a way, I find it very appropriate considering what SFMM offers. It makes sense...I just wish it was more of a 'middle ground' coaster like Ninja or Gold Rusher.

I agree. I do not think they need another coaster so small. They need some more in the middle coasters. A custom mouse would be great there.

I really wish MM would and flat's to the line up. I think they needs to take the Colossus County Fair area and make it like a Fair. Remove Johnny Rockets and some of the Games, just revamp that whole area. Love to see some classic carnival ride's like Zipper, Falling Star and maybe bring back Z-Force. MM let's not always be coaster bound, mix it up!

As someone who spent time working some of the flats at SFMM (Spin Out, Gearworks, Atom Smasher)…I can tell you no one cares about flat rides at SFMM. I rarely saw more than a 2 or 3 cycle wait for any of those rides. Only Sandblasters got long lines, if you consider bumper cars a flat ride. Tim Burkhart was right when he said they are hard to market and get ROI on.

^ If amusement parks put unique flats and not ones like himalaya, music express, tilt a whirl, scrambler, wipe out, tornado, etc than more people would ride them. I do not always ride the common flats unless there is something about them that stands out. You can ride all of the standard flats at local carnivals. There are exceptions to this rule like almost all flats at Knoebels or many at Indiana Beach.

Parks, especially big parks like a Six Flags or Cedar Fair, should invest in unique flats. They should see what other countries are offering and see if there is possibility to bring these rides to the states.

La rev at Knotts always has a line. And it processes pretty quick. I would say alilstronger is correct. Unique flats still attract lines. I remember the very long lines with Z-force years ago at MM

Thank you for agreeing.

When I was at Canada's Wonderland Sledgehammer had a really long line. Now I know that is a ride that is down a lot but the queue stayed full all day and it did not go down the whole time I was there.

Agree. With the flats that SFMM has it's no wonder no one cares about them, they're everywhere. When I was at Cedar Point last summer there was considerable interest in MaxxAir which had a pretty long line (and apprently does so regularly enough to warrant a FastLane queue), and while I was standing near the non-operating Skyhawk there was a steady stream of people walking up, finding out it was down, and making disappointed remarks about wishing it was open. I was pretty disappointed myself that it was down, I would have loved to have ridden that one.

If SFMM would get some unique or even unusual flats I would think they could do pretty well with them, but when it comes to flats its like they either have no imagination or no faith, or both.

^ When I was at CP this past summer Skyhawk was open and had a pretty much full queue all 3 days I was there. I was so glad it was part of Fast Lane. MaxxAir had long lines all 3 days too.

Skyhawk and Maxair have better airtime than the coasters at SFMM. (I haven't been there since FT was built.)

Sad but true^

Hopefully the rumored Iron Colossus gets built into an airtime machine. I'd rather it not have any added inversions since SFMM has more than enough coasters that go upside down..
