But to answer your question: Orient Express is the funicular. Dragon is the cable driven one on the back side of the park that is long gone (though the empty bottom station is still there---and featured in Robb's latest update). And yes, there is only one big carousel: the one you are referring to at the front of the park.

There is a smaller Carousel in Bugs Bunny World. Could that be the one you are thinking of? Although I don't think either one would be considered "junky" but maybe I'm just not enough of a carousel enthusaist to know.

I haven't been on that Carousel in so long, but I remember it being nice when I used to ride. I don't know what its like now.

The top station for the Dragon is there as well. Sometime when you're in station house for Ninja, look at the floor and you'll see that it used to be a large turn-table. That is the top half of the old dragon station.

Most of the track is still there too, its just covered by dirt and debris. You can see parts of it head up near Ninja's transfer, and if you're on Ninja and just exiting the 2nd lift, you can see the dragon track below the safety grate. It leads to the door of Ninja's electrical room.

Funicular? I really wonder about some of the odd names the park had for ride and sections of the park back then. Spilliken Corners? I mean, c'mon!

The track goes almost all the way down to the drop at Jet Stream. If I felt like taking the long way, I'd walk up the hill using that as the path into Ninja's station, then back down to Jet Stream.

Wait, the Dragon's line is still there (cables), I mean is some of it still there?

Kinda Magic Mountain related:

I was playing RCT today and I was working on MM. I im always thinking, it looks so unrealistic to me. like they don't have alot of the rides on there like Batman or Riddler's, the same for the other SF parks in RCT. Can anyone tell my why?

O yeah, the people at Negative G are all on Carousel persevation

Atari/MicroProse/Hasbro/Infogrammes (did I get them all?) didn't want to pay for the Warner licensing.

So in many cases where there would be a licensed ride (like Batman or Riddler's) they were left out.

I believe Superman is included, but just called "The Escape."

The reason why they didn't include those rides and just call them "Revenge" or something was that I think they might have wanted to leave something for the player to build.

I don't know what you mean by Dragon's line, but the bottom station and top station are still intact, one behind the Soda Shack, and the other where Ninja's station is. The track from the bottom station goes up the hill untill its surrounded by shrubbery. Then the shrubbery clears about 30 feet below Ninja's station, and you can see the track again. Then, like Jew above said, they used old unused Dragons track as a walkway (I believe because the ride had a walkway next to the cars) to be used for employee walkways between Jet Stream and Ninja and added some stair and walkways as well.

It was all kinda done shady, like they didn't want to spend the money to demolish it, so they just left it cause it wasn't really in the way. And like most people who aren't aware of the change, don't really even notice it (you being the perfect evidence for that ).

Speaking of Eagle's Flight that station on Samurai Summit is also still intact. It has been used for various things over the years such as storage, and as a staging area for Roadkill Kitchen show during Fright Fest. To be honest it's hard to tell that it was ever a ride station while inside, however there is one big clue. The rides control panel is still completely in tact. It still has January 16th, 1994 listed as the last time the ride ran on the board.

Makes me wonder if all the younger members know the significance of that date in the closing.

A funicular is an inclined railway, basically, what Orient Express is. For whatever reason, Magic Mountain simply used the generic term for such a railway for its own installation of one. If you are aware of the old Angels Flight in downtown L.A. (which is currently closed), that, too, is a funicular.

Do a little research via Google. It may prove interesting.

I was in elementary school at that time, 2nd or 3rd grade I think. School was closed for like 2 months cuz all the buildings integrity were jeopardized.

And I was still living in Germany...

Let's stay on topic please.

Where exactly on Samurai Summit is the old Eagle's Flight Station? I wanna go looking for it on my next visit, unless it's one of those more restrictive places.

^^On the topic of demolition: You can still find Eagle's Flight footers in the park too.

Funny that you mention this, but I totally have pictures of them. Well just one from my visit back last spring. They are behind Spin Out's queue.

You know the path which leads up from Gold Rusher and Spin Out to the top? The one which ends at the front of Laughing Dragon Pizza Co, look to your left from facing the entrance and you'll see an old building with restrooms at the base. The top of that building is the old Station. From the Sky Tower, you can see exactly which direction the lift went in as that was the mid-way point of the ride.

Here are some of Robb's pictures of the Eagle's Flight station from 2005.

Time to take down that old Eagles Flight station (it was the Shangri-La Station for you SFMM history buffs) and put something else there, like an Asian themed Star Flyer.

I never thought about old Eagles Flight footers still being there. I'll have to look next time I'm out at the park.

Why take it down, you already have the building so why not put something cool and interesting inside. Could be a well themed little flatride for all i care. I know the foundation of the building must be massive considering it was holding a lot of weight in the eagle flight days

I don't see a reason for taking down the old Eagles Flight Station. Nobody knows it's even there, and it's not like its in the way of anything. Its the little Samurai Summit theming that's left up on the hill, and untill they find something to put in its place, its probably not going anywhere.

It's too bad they closed Eagles Flight, was it just as a caution or did something happen to the ride during the quake?

Its kind of odd how MM used to have all these transportation rides, with really no sort of destination or things to do after they got off them. And now MM has acres and acres of land with tons of roller coasters, and the only way to get to them is by walking. You think it would've been the other way around.

From what I recall, SFMM's Eagles Flight was damaged in the 1994 earthquake, but I think it was going to come down anyway to make way for Superman--The Escape.

A number of these skyrides have gone away; Disneyland did close theirs not long after SFMM did. However, I think CGA still has theirs, as does SeaWorld and the San Diego Zoo.

Regarding what I said a few posts up...they should keep/rehab the old station building into something if they're going to leave it there, but that space might be used for a new attraction at some point if the park doesn't plan to do anything with the building.
