The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Be sure to go to the correct processing center. Right now, they're using the old season pass processing building (with the turquoise roof) on the right side after going through the metal detector. I didn't know that when I was last there (the girl at Will Call didn't say), so I went in and found the regular place closed. A visit to Guest Relations set me straight.

I called the park again. Apparently the online pass processing is automated to the point where if I would have requested a new pass in the mail, I would have just received another non-Xtreme pass. That's what I was told anyway. The person I talked to said that there were a lot of passes that got mixed up like mine did, so if anyone else out there got the wrong pass in the mail, you'll have to go to the park to get it straightened out.

I drove by the park today on the way home from Northern California. From what I could see, Goliath looked really nice. I never really noticed how badly it needed to be re-painted until it finally was (or is in the process of being re-painted).

Couldn't really see Batman.

Hey everyone,

I'm new here as a member.. been lurking for a while.

Hope this isn't 'off-topic' from the current discussion, but where would I find 'vintage' photos of SFMM? I have found old ride photos, maps, etc., but I cannot find in-park photos.

The reason for asking is because I am 24 and went to SFMM for the first time this summer - and I have lived in So Cal my entire life. I would love to see what the park used to look like..

This site is awesome!

I'm personally buying my Xtreme Play Pass online and processing it at the park like Eric said. It just avoids all of the extra hassle that some have experienced. On another note it's about to be 2010 and Magic Mountain still has no "official" announcement on the 2010 attraction. How long can they go with this?

^ Welcome to TPR!

I have been going to Magic Mountain since its opening year (1971), so you'd think I have a ton of pictures of the place.

WRONG!

For whatever reason, I've never taken that many pictures during my visits out there, and I greatly regret that. What a bunch of history I've missed! I do have a few photos from the early '70s, but that's about it. I'll have to get those scanned (find them first!) and posted here.

Sorry to hear all about the hurdles some of you guys have to deal with at the moment regarding the Xtreme Pass.

Also, thanks for all the responses regarding the food discount. I figured I'd buy the Xtreme Pass anyway.... since it is merely $20 more than a play pass with parking... what the hell, you know?

I got a car recently so I'll be doing a lot of driving to and from the Mountain.

THIS Website has a lot of old pictures and history about SFMM

Oh wow, that website is STILL around? Takes me back. But still a great source of information for historical information on Magic Mountain.

While they are all black and white, pictures chronicling the first 25 years of Magic Mountain (1971-1996) can be found here: http://www.americacoasters.com/SFMMGuide/historicalphotos.php

Yeah, I know ... another site that is STILL around.

A great place to find old pictures is the park index. Magic Mountain has a ton of links to great updates in the Nostalgia section.

Even though Terminator made it in the top 25, I think SFMM's coasters should get at least a little bit more love than that.

http://www.ushsho.com/woodpoll16yeartable2009.htm

Yeah, for me it's a top 20 coaster. But I think it's short length, lack of extreme forces and "enhancements" all hurt it's ranking.

It does sit right next to Ozark though, which I think is pretty fitting.

^ While Terminator is not extreme in the least, it is what the park wanted to attract more family members. It certainly could have been longer, though.

Interesting...still nothing about the new coaster. Not even its name as of yet.

I was impressed by the fireworks shooting off of the tower, and was less crowded than last Tuesday. Most rides were walk-ons or near walk-ons.

Would I go next year? Maybe, depends on whether our casino night is canceled or not.

One thing that bothered me was the fact that I could not find Jay Thomas just to say hi. He was walking around, but I just didn't happen to run into him.

Anyone know if the rails on Batman will be painted yellow or remain blue? Just wondering since SFoG's Batman is now blue with yellow rails (apparently):

If you check some of the more recent photos of the paint job, you can tell that the rails are really just gray. I think that blue track and yellow rails would look awesome though.
