The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

The park was dead today. Like, dead dead for such a beautiful perfect weather day.

Just about everything was walk-on or re-ride, except TNR.

Seemed like Twisted Colossus was having a bit of a tough day, as we saw it evacuated twice from the lift, and also the restraints in the station would absolutely not release for one poor train. However, they got it back up by mid-afternoon.

An excellent week to visit before the spring break onslaught. Staffing levels and attitudes seemed appropriate. Park was very clean. This was actually the most fun I've had there in a long time.

Did I mention you should go?

Disclaimer, I do work occasionally at the park as a technical subcontractor so I'm slightly biased

This is the best time of year to go, IMO. The weather's nice, everyone is still in school, and most of the rides are open. I stopped by the park for a little while on Monday evening and everything was a station wait (except Revolution, which still had an hour wait).

I concur today at SFMM was EPIC.

No people at all.

Monday had more, Tues had less than Monday, but today with excellent weather and not the big massive groups.

Zero buses were in the parking lot.

Wow what a great day and it was also a Bring A Freind Free date .... cant figger out where all were.

With SFDK's Medusa not far away from where I live, I can tell you the rides are like night and day. Medusa has always been smooth on my rides, while Scream beats me like a redheaded step child.

Medusa is usually smooth, but I've had a couple rides on it where it felt like the wheels were past the point where they should have been replaced. I rode Medusa its opening year and most of the time it rides as good as new.

I've had some great rides on Scream but my last ride (West Coast Bash 2015) was not fun. It's a shame, because the dive loop / zero g roll is excellent.

Was at the park on Tuesday 4/4/17 with my little girl and it was so nice. The park was clean, not packed and beautiful weather. My only complain was, some of the rides in Bug Bunny World were closed. With all of the little kids, it seemed wrong to keep certain rides closed because of staffing. At times they would run a ride for 20 minuted then jump over to another ride and operate that one.

After a few hours in BBW, we walked around to check out the park showing Olivia the big roller coasters. I noticed 2 teens writing on the walls by Viper. I snapped a picture and then confronted them. These punk A$$ teenagers from Florida tried to step up and verbally beat me down. Calling me Fag, Loser, and other names while another person filmed it! I wanted to talk back but I stood quiet. Security walked up about 2 minutes later and the video was shown to them. These kids and their whole family were kicked out. Funny thing though, the mom who was watching them yelling at me, was screaming at them because their day was now ruined!

We walked over the Grand Carousel because my 3 year old couldn't get enough. While in line is was noticing the Ride Op so out going making the ride experience great. Then is was time for a Op's change. The new Ride Op (Ryan) was in a crappy mood and had a scowl on his face. When the out going Op was trying to ask him a question, Ryan was not listening. I thought that was rude and I turned to him and said something to him. He then turned around and gave me dirty look and I was like, okay let the game begin. Halfway through the ride the music was turned off. I asked when what happened and again no response. It took so much to keep me from bitching him out. So after we got off, we strolled over to the Guest Relations and made a little complaint.

it was a great day! Everyone was being so nice to my little girl and I. Only 2 hiccup's along the way but have no control over stupidity!

Overall rides looked good, TC was Dueling, Tatsu was running at proper dispatch time. Revy had down time but that was due to VR system!

Going back next week with my partner and nephew's. So let's see what that day brings us.

These punk A$$ teenagers from Florida tried to step up and verbally beat me down.

Out of curiosity, how did you know they were from Florida?

Calling me Fag

The last time I heard someone use that word in a negative way (after a 12 step meeting no less!) I warned him that using that word "could get your teeth knocked out." He wasn't happy about that, but quickly backed down. I was later informed that he had dentures (young guy, too!)... so I really got him with the "your teeth" comment. I was also spoken to about what I found out was an "implied threat." Oh well, times are changing!

I wanted to talk back but I stood quiet.

Kudos! This is hard for me, but I'm working on it. Glad to hear you guys still had a fun day!

Way to go! Was it the mom of the offending kids?

I've had security get mad at ME for reporting line jumpers (at Kings Dominion). This slick dude thought he could browse up in the queue, and everyone was complaining to themselves but not to the person. I spoke up, and the people around me were like "thanks for saying something." My reply was "why am I the only adult saying anything?" I guess the security didn't want to deal with the situation and seemed to be pissed off at me. A run-in with some black ties at the end of the day scored us some exit passes and meal tickets - which I did not ask for. Six Flags parks seem the regular place for this sort of behavior, but it happens other places too!

I've learned to better pick my arguments. In a ride queue where no one else can speak is not the best place for me to be the only one to speak...

Because the mom was saying that when they were getting escorted out!

Yeah, that word is bad! I am a gay man and that word does hurt but then I look at the people who are saying it and they don't know any better!

Oh it took a higher power to keep me calm (I was like Lord Jesus help me!) As a Spaniard/Native American/Israeli Jew. I had many emotions going on and was ready to pop off but since they were teen punks, that is why I didn't say anything.

I didn't want to get thrown out. So I remained calm. Plus, I didn't want my little girl see me fight!

We have gotten people thrown out of Disneyland for defacing property. I come from a long line of Law Enforcement and Military. So when we see bad we point it out and say something! In a slang way, Don't mess with this fag!

^Ha! Well, you handled this situation very ... nicely.

Pop off? I thought that was a Chicago thing! 43 and still working on my popping off. At work and otherwise.

Haha, Chi-Town! Shoot and you know I have that Chicago Skate down too! I was horrible in my late teens & early 20's, so many fights when I was working up in the club. Now I am trying to teach my baby to not be like daddy!

^Very cool. I wish more people would show their kids how to be nice. Since this is a SF thread, I attribute many of the issues at their parks due to the company themselves. It's cheap babysitting for many kids that were not shown how to be nice. I would rather pay $200 for a season pass and enjoy a little more comfort. And better operations.

What's Chicago Skate? I was bad too... in my 20s and into my early 30s. Its nice to grow up sometimes, isn't it!?

EXACTLY! I wouldn't mind paying a higher season pass fee! Its true that it is a big baby sitter! Maybe if they would raise their season pass and general admission price. It would weed out some of the bad apples, plus they will have extra money for the park!

I shouldn't have quit working for them but had to follow family tradition!

Chicago Skate; roller skating and dancing combine!

Yeah! Now that I have a child it feels good to teach her how be polite and show respect. For a while I didn't think I would have kids considering my situation. Thanks to a friends help that was able too.

^Congrats! I went through a *minor* depression when I turned 40... must have been a pre-wired nature thing that wanted me to have my own children. Nature is funny sometimes.

At this point, it would be a big task for many of the Six Flags parks to get back many of their well-behaved families. Even here at SFGAmerica, many locals/burbs, etc., won't have anything to do with the park. I go when I know it won't be busy; or after 7pm in the summer. And after 2 years of having a dining pass, I'll never do that again. Waiting an hour for food in a place that has one register (where there 4 in the 80s) just isn't worth it to me. Peanut Butter and banana sandwich in the cooler and I'm set!

I went through the same thing at 39/40. Brother had kids and I didn't. Something was missing and she was it. I love her.......

I had the dinning pass and it was a PAIN! like you said, packed park with limited windows open for food.

I actually did the PB&J Tuesday for her and snacks. I only paid for a souvenir cup that had free refills that day.

This is awesome and I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who speaks up! If I was there and heard you speak up I definitely would have spoken up with you and had stood there alongside you. I also seem to be the only one to say something to people that litter (typically I pick it up and give it back to them, while saying this place isn't your trashcan) and I also say something to people that cut in line. Typically if you stop them there and ask where they think they're going, you can get them to turn around, but saying you're going to immediately report them to security before they get on the ride they stop and turn around as well. I'm in my early 30's and quite fit, I work out and so I'm pretty intimidating and most people once I say something it kinda scares them or catches them off guard and they cut it out or apologize. Also I don't do it just to be a tough guy, I do it because it seems to bother the people around me and nobody else has the balls to say anything, and personally, I just don't think it's right.

Just out of curiosity how did security show up so fast? That seems like something where you'd have to wait 10 or more minutes for one to even walk by?

And you know what? That gives me an idea. At the MLB Ballpark I attended in the past, there was a sign that said something along the lines of "To report drunk/unruly fans using profanity or ruining your park experience text this number and give us your section number" so people could anonymously report people that were out of line. I think that would be a great thing to have at a park like Magic Mountain that is so big and always seems to have these kinds of issues. Send a text, give a location, and that way security could get to situations in a timely manner.

Usually they seem to just happen to be walking by, so it's hit or miss.

^Good to know there are more of us who say something!

^^Such a blessing!

I bet that PB sandwich was a blessing too! I'm still trying to figure out what I'm gonna do to eat when I get to magic mountain this summer. I won't have a cooler to keep in the Rent-A-Car, so I'm thinking just to leave the park to eat. I know how long it takes to get back in a SF park sometimes, so I'm thinking about finally breaking down and getting a Discover card.

It's kind of a shame. This is only a concern I have been going to a Six Flags park. How to dodge multiple hassles.

They were walking by and seen the 2 in my face. I have been to places where signs are posted saying stuff like that. I wish more people said something but they are too scared! They can be bada$$ over social media but in person, chicken sh&^!
