The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

I'm guessing they'd get quite a few complaints if they advertised a spring opening and the ride wasn't ready for spring break
When has that ever mattered before

i haven't really paid close attention but i remember when they used to make it a perk to ride a new ride and at a certain time. with superman, that was pretty bad. at least we got to ride one night. or maybe pass holders were spread out a number of days. car went up about 2/3 of the tower, if that. i don't really remember.

so i'd guess those promises, at least as a perk to buy a pass, really aren't stressed anymore.

that dual RMC colored drop is looking pretty wicked. lol

Well, pass-holders got to ride Batman backwards for a little while before it opened up to everyone.

I meant they promoted the season pass as a big deal to ride Superman. something like, buy a pass to ride superman in 1996, or whenever it opened. then it kept getting delayed but they had those special days later in the year when it worked enough so pass holders could ride. so, they still kept their promise to pass holders.

i do think six flags does a lot for pass holders.

TCol's drop looks so beautiful.......

I think the best RMC in the world (until 2016) will be a toss-up between Twisted Colossus and Wicked Cyclone. I know lots of people would say Wicked Cyclone, but TC looks like it has non-stop airtime.

Are you referencing Wildfire about 2016? #curious Indeed, Wicked Cyclone does look pretty good as well! I wish either had a dive loop though like Goliath (SFGA), but we can't have everything

that will probably be pretty preference based. WC being a non stop action machine, and TC being bigger and longer drawn out elements. Though Alan Schilke said he thinks WC will be the best one yet.

^ i really think the pacing of WC will be a big factor in the overall preference of RMC coasters for enthusiasts. I too am especially excited for it. And Im really excited to get my first RMC credit this summer with TC

^I'm still in shock that California is getting an awesome airtime-machine. I'm really hoping Twisted Colossus will beat out Maverick for my number 1 coaster. It'll be my first RMC!

That will be no easy feat, Maverick is simply outta this world....definitely my #1 steel coaster

It may just be the angle, but those pictures make it look like the green drop is even steeper than the blue one. All these pictures are awesome, I can't wait to ride it in the spring or summer or whenever it opens.
I was just sitting here talking about that. It really does look like the green side is more steep than the blue side! Which will be amazing!!

I hope this is the case. The POV video makes it look like they're simply not perfectly aligned next to each other though.

The coaster is really coming along nice...especially looking at that lift hill, all nice and white. Not sure I like the fact that they will be retaining some of the old track in certain areas to help secure the structure....it just seems so Magic Mountain to leave old pieces remaining(i.e. the bottom station to the Dragon ride). Yes, there will be several spots where they wont be removing the old track.

They kinda NEED to though.

It looks like that because the blue drop turns to the right a bit earlier than the green one.

Both drops are complete as of today. The steepness is exactly the same for both, but there's an offset due to the slight twist.

image.thumb.jpg.8aa95abbfce69c5cdd77cf167b673115.jpg

At the park now. If you were thinking of coming today I recommend staying away. Very windy here and X2, Riddler, Scream, Ninja, Lex Luthor closed. Only moderate crowds but 90 minute waits for headliners due to the amount of closed rides. I was going to stay for Holiday in the Park but given the conditions I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I've just gave up at being at "the Mountain" today. I was there at opening, and they let gold pass in at 10am. That's the good news. I got a quick ride on YOLO. This was probably one of my worst visits to the park. I've been accused of being a "fan boy," but I'm going to call it like it was. I understand weather / wind plays a big role with some rides. Here is the rundown at 1:30 for closed rides:

1.Orient Express

2. X2

3. Tatsu

4. Ninja

5. Riddler's

6. Gold Rusher

7. Scream

8. Lex

9. Superman

Yolo and Goliath were running all day. The lines were out outrageous! "Pocky" (get over my abbreviation) was back to running 2 trains this morning. I also saw Rev was loading only 1 train, and the line was over the bridge. I feel sorry for the folks that have never been there and can only be there today...

Does anyone have an idea about the crowds for this week? It is possible that my family will be visiting either this Tuesday (23) or Friday (26). Is the week of Christmas a busy time for them?

My brother said that Legoland CA is very busy on Christmas week. So if LLC is very busy this week, the same can be said about Six Flags Magic Mountain. My brother said that the 26th is the better day to go because it is a rest day after Christmas Day while the 23rd is way busier because a lot of visitors are coming in town to visit families and have a plan to do something before Christmas Eve.

Yeah, I gave up on it too after spending 45 minutes in the Superman line, having it go down, being told that it would be an extended delay, then watching the ride running ten minutes later while checking the wait at Goliath. Fortunately I got some rides in before noon, but when you visit the park several times in a year it just isn't worth staying when half the major coasters are down and the rest have 90 minute waits. If it wasn't for the wind it would have been a decent day, and I can't blame the park for a lot of it, but yeah...worst day I've had there in a few years.

It's going to be packed. I went on the Monday before Christmas last year and it was so busy the park had to extend hours. All the major coasters were 60+ minute waits, and even the second tier coasters had mostly full queues (that's the only time I've ever seen the lower area in use on Gold Rusher). In the whole day we only managed to do six coasters (Full Throttle, Batman, Apocalypse, Tatsu, Riddler, and Goliath) plus Lex Luthor. If you want to go one of those days, a Flash Pass will be required in order to do everything.
