The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Here are my thoughts on these "rumors" -

1. Name - Does it matter? Honestly, DOES. IT. MATTER?!?!? If it still has the word "Colossus" in it, we will all still be calling it "Colossus." I don't think I ever once said "Let's go ride IRON Rattler", it was always just "Rattler." I'm never going to say "Let's go ride Medusa STEEL COASTER", it will just be "Medusa." So I ask you once again? Does it matter? They could call it "Vagina Colossus" and people would still just call it "Colossus."

2. Racing vs. Single Track - Again, does it matter? Let's be honest here, you're going to complain because the park wants to build a LONGER Rocky Mountain coaster that will probably have MORE airtime? Really??? This is what we are bitching about for the last few pages???

3. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME ANY OF US RODE COLOSSUS WHILE IT RACED!??!?! It's been YEARS, right? So why not make it one long ride? Play to the parks strengths of not being able to operate both sides anyway.

But seriously, are we really arguing over a name that none of us will ever use, and the idea of a LONGER ride???

Just put some thought into this, please, before you respond again.

Thank you.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I would definitely call it Vagina.

Edit - Ooooo, "Colossal Vagina" would work! I'd just have to clarify if I'm talking about the ride or my ex girlfriends.

I've heard from someone that this is supposed to be a "cross of Goliath and NTAG". We'll see how the video turns out. For now, this better be good.

Sounds good to me, as long as it isn't the same duration as Goliath

Again, I just don't understand the complaining. If Magic Mountain installed a version of Great America's Goliath that was 5 seconds SHORTER, it would still be, hands down, the best ride in the park.

So we are complaining about the name. Complaining about the potential for a longer RMC ride. Complaining about the potential for a shorter RMC ride. Is anyone actually HAPPY or looking forward to the ride at all!?!?

I'm loving some of the "I know stuff already" bragging I'm seeing coming from other sites, as though that makes someone think they are better than the next person, or will get them laid or whatever. The old saying of "Those than know, don't tell, and those that tell, don't know (or at least won't have industry friends for very long.)" most certainly applies here.

We'll all know for sure in a matter of days.

I'm sure what ever RMC has come up with will be amazing, the MM fanboy in me just wants the bragging rights of having the baddest RMC in the line-up thus far. Just a little dreaming/wishful thinking on my part

Sometimes I wish Californians cared a bit less about "bragging rights" and always having to prove how awesome they are and just be happy with getting something that could be GREAT!

I think it takes moving away from this state (or at least spending a bunch of time out of it) to realize how hollow that particular pursuit is.

There are days when I'm totally convinced that I am the only one around here who is actually happy about Colossus' closing so a bigger, badder, better, "put the park on the map again" ride can be built in its place. A lot of people are not unlike those bizarre "SAVE COLOSSUS" protestors who live in a complete fantasy world where Colossus runs in 2014 and beyond exactly like it did in 1978. They might be slightly less militant about it, but still all they can think about is how tragic it is that Colossus is dying and need to have RAGE that it's being closed. Never mind what now has the chance to be built in its place. RAGE RAGE RAGE because closing! Ughh!

And these same people, I'm sure, will refuse to ever ride whatever crazy fun new ride shows up one day in Colossus' place right? ... ... ... ...right?

I could care less about the name and layout of this ride. I only care that it will the first RMC coaster on the West Coast, so it will be the closest to me! I wouldn't mind if the it was the longest RMC coaster, but it really isn't the end of the world if it's not. I don't know why anyone would complain about getting a RMC coaster and at least the name isn't going to be Iron/Steel Colossus.

I don't understand why people are still having their doubts.. RMC made incredible rides this year and have a solid resume, and it's still crazy to think we will most likely (but undoubtedly at this point) have one in California.

Sounds like one side will resemble the original a bit more. Could we see a more "gentle" Iron Horse for that side, or topper? Or is SFMM just doing a Cedar Fair style diversion? Maybe "Twisted" will be an inversion-filled Iron Horse and "Classic" would be an airtime-focused Iron Horse.

As awesome as that sounds, it's most likely a page about the history of Colossus.
