The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Going through some old Magic Mountain footage and I found this! I think this might be one of my favorite "old school" coaster clips. It's just so cheesy, borderline creepy, and the 80s porno music just makes it AWESOME! Check it out...

Wow. I remember seeing this video years ago. But can't remember where...

Wasn't it a video you could buy at the park? I think I had it when I was a kid

From the video description on YouTube.

This is some retro Colossus footage including POV shots originally shot for a video called "Go For a Ride" which was sold at Six Flags Magic Mountain as well as several other parks in the mid 1980s.

That video kinda reminds me of a video I had (have?) from the early to mid 90's called "Here Comes a Roller Coaster". It started out as the host taking a nap in his office then waking up going down the first drop of Colossus (it's all in a dream sequence). Such an awesome video and I hope to find it again.

I still have this VHS, and it's BEAUTIFUL. So cheesy and bad. Is there a way one can digitize VHS tapes? Maybe I can put it on YouTube,

Yes, with the right equipment (which isn't expensive) it's quite easy. The way I usually do it is with a dvd/vhs combo vcr - dub the vhs to a dvd-rw, copy to pc, upload, erase dvd-rw, repeat.

Is that porn music being played in the background?!

Shoulda named it John Holmes the Ride. Could've advertised it as the largest woody in the world.

My apologies i was in the 36hr marathon and wanted to share my best shot mind you it wasn't easy

Werent they allowing cameras on-ride during the portions of the marathon that the rest of the park was closed? It looked like it from the photos/footage I saw.

Yes we had permission to take selfys at our own risk but it was allowed

Ha oh this video!! It was a VHS that Kodak put out in the late 80s. I had it then and watched it till the tape broke. I never realized how "I have candy in my van" and "have you seen my lost puppy" the ice cream man was till now.

Also...was that Stevie Wonder in the front seat of one of the cuts?

Has anybody went to Honda ERT? I was curious on how it worked. Do they give you a "ticket" confirming that you are driving a Honda when you arrive at the parking booth? The website states you just show your Honda key and admission ticket for early entry to the park.

The reason I am asking this is because our family has two cars. The wife typically drives the Honda, and will be unavailable to me this Friday. Can I still get in with only my key, even though I did not arrive in my Honda?

^^^Anybody^^^

I'm guessing you needed this info for today... But I'll post about it anyway. When I went, they were letting anybody into the parking lot but they had Honda employees outside the parking booths handing out vouchers for free parking to people in Hondas.

As for early admission, you just show a key right outside the park gates so you don't need to have the vehicle there, just the key. However, when I went it was ERT for Scream and Colossus and they didn't have the rides ready in time so the gates didn't open until 9:50, if I remember correctly. Still enough time for 2 rides on each before heading to the back of the park before everyone else got in and walking on Batman and Riddler's Revenge.

AAAAND PROTESTS

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) - It's last call for Colossus. The Southern California roller coaster that was the world's tallest and fastest when it opened in 1978 retires Saturday outside the top 10 in both categories. Six Flags Magic Mountain expects thousands of prospective riders on Colossus' last day, and a protest is planned by a group seeking to save the roller coaster

It's the last hoorah for Colossus, a time to celebrate this ride and it's history. There's no reason to bring up that incident at all. It's so stupid. They mention the death then later tell you to come ride it for the last time.

Sometimes I really hate the news media..... trolls!

Its a way to make the coaster seem relevant and worth talking about. Rides close all the time, this particular story needed a reason for existing so they threw that fact in. It makes the ride seem significant and worth talking about to those uninformed about its history. Is it tasteless though? Pretty much.
