The Six Flags Magic Mountain (SFMM) Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

I liked Riddler but I only rode it once (really long wait even with gold flash pass), had a good ride on Mantis in August best ever for a stand up in the front got the restraint perfect though, that definitely helps with stand-ups. Only been on the two plus Shockwave at KD, though probably will ride GL at SFGAdv this year.

I hear a lot of complaints about Riddlers Revenge, Mantis, Iron Wolf. Do B&M stand ups not age well? I've never been on one.

I rode Riddler this past Sunday and it was running pretty smooth. When I rode it again this past Thursday it rattled and was significantly rougher. I'm guessing 1 train runs better than the other.

Speaking of rattling B&Ms, Scream was pretty rough...I'll choose SFDK Medusa over Scream any day!

When I first started visiting SFMM frequently a couple years ago, Scream was one of my favorites! Super smooth and lots of fun. Now it has definitely turned into one of the coasters that I avoid when I go to the park. It's a bummer since it's such a great ride! But after riding Medusa this year, I definitely pick Medusa! It's a fantastic ride.

I rode all three major standups (RR, GL, and Mantis) in the 2011 season, and I found RR to be by far the roughest of the three, as well as being the worst operated (the others could run 2 or 3 trains without stacking), while RR almost always stacks, unless it is running one train.

In fact, I believe Riddler's and Scream to be the two worst big B&M's I have ridden. Batman and Tatsu still run fairly well, though.

Just got caught up on the thread and I really love how the last few pages have been about their bathrooms. As the other Joey mentioned, it's very appropriate. However, the one thing that everyone missed is that whether you want to use the bathrooms or not, if you eat anything at that park you will have to use them. Multiple times!!!

I still really like RR, especially at night. It is getting a lot rougher, but I really like the drop and the massive loop.

Scream! was actually pretty smooth during my last visit in October, I was surprised to hear all the remarks on it being "rough", the only problem I had was that it rattled a little bit. RR is still my favorite stand up out of the three I've ridden (RR, Mantis, CGA's Vortex) but it is a bit bumpy.

^ I as well love the first drop into the loop. Very awesome element indeed.

I've only ridden one B&M standup (GL) and I found it the roughest B&M I've ever ridden but that may just be because I only got to ride the 6th row as my father rode it in the 2nd one(we used the single rider's line) and he didn't complain. I must say I'm surprised to hear that scream has become rough as I've always regarded B&M floorless as being one of the smoothest type of coasters around (at least from what I've ridden).

Back to YOLOcoaster: does anyone know how long we will have to wait for the test runs to begin?

I just wish they would rip up that parking lot under Scream and throw in some landscaping already!

If you take a good look at it using either Google or Bing maps you will notice what looks like a service road that runs right through about the middle of the ride to access the area near the tip of Colossus. So that alone might be reason for no landscaping.

And also if it were to be landscaped then any cell phones and keys would be harder to find when the guests fail to secure them properly. At least now keys can be turned into lost and found in a timely manner and I bet when they fall into the service road that perhaps they are picked up and turned in even before park closing. Of course any phone hitting the ground in that area I bet is destroyed.

When we rode GA Scorcher at DSB a couple of years ago I thought it was holding up VERY well. Last time I rode Riddlers was last year (I think) and it totally bashed my head. And don't even get me started on Green Lantern at SFGAdv.

I love the layout of Riddlers, it was once one of my favorite rides in the park but no more. I really wish they'd put sit-down trains on it.

I am fortunate to have ridden all 7 B&M Stand Up Coasters, and also the Shockwave/Batman precursor.

I must say that Riddler was my favorite of all. I loved the sweeping layout, and was very lucky to get a ride with the MCB completely OFF after a breakdown. That was the best ride ever. I'm sorry to hear that it has gotten so painfully rough. I did feel that Green Lantern's first Summer at Great Adventure was much smoother than I expected, but now has deteriorated as well. Georgia Scorcher is probably my number 2, and is quite re-rideable.

I've heard that they have a lot of electrical wires running under the parking lot there. I have heard rumors that if they plan on redoing Colossus, that they may do some theme work on scream to make the whole area look nicer.

Like repainting the parking-space lines?

I'd rather they spend the money getting rid of Scream's afwul B&M rattle. Goliath and Colossus are also parking lot coasters, yet Scream get the brunt of the criticism...

Sorry but am I the only one who isn't fully sold on Full Throttle/YOLOcoaster yet? I've kept up with all the updates and, so far, the layout just seems* to be lacking any real excitement other than the launch. Also, it seems incredibly short especially since the top hat dives right into the break run.

*I say seems because I know it still hasn't opened yet and looks can be deceiving until you finally ride something.
