I have been on the ride... alot, and It does sometimes barely clear the top hat, but isn't that NORMAL for rocket coasters, thats why they rollback, The Theming on the ride is amazing, and the Airtime is just... OMFG!!!! airtime, enough to make elissa drool... So yea, It's also maybe not the best idea to bag out a roller-coaster if you havn't been on it. While it may not be the biggest or the fastest, it packs a mighty punch! We Australians are glad with what we got, cause we don't exactly have theme parks the size of yours.

So please don't knock our coaster, unless you have been on it!

Going to add my two cents here... the top hat is taken at a speed that works brilliantly for the ride. You've just had a 100kmh launch out of a building, and to arrive on the top hat after 2 seconds of arguably the most intense coaster experience in Australia - it's nice to have a couple of seconds to either a) take in the view, b) take a breath from the screaming or c) work out how you're going to get out of that dirty underwear before you get back to the station.

I don't think I'd want to rip over the top hat on this ride, because the next three hills all have so much intense airtime that you certainly don't feel like you're missing out on anything. As djrappa and the others have said, you rip over the top of the smaller hills and its an amazing feeling. Bear in mind that Superman's bunny hills are COMPACT but still easily as high as hill coming out of Stealth, so any feeling is dramatically magnified. Add that to the fact that the first bunny hill's exit sees you ripping into a (seemingly tiny) hole to go back through the building and you've already got the makings of a pretty amazing ride.

The only thing I can fault Superman on is the half-arsed attempt at the pre-launch theming - it's passable but not outstanding. Other than that... it's an incredibly re-rideable, thrilling ride that really is worth riding.

After riding Speed Monster and Kanonen on the UK trip, I can honestly say that Superman has a better launch and layout than any of them, and coupled with the pre-launch stuff, the tunnel and cool bunny hills it really does put it in my top 10.

Cheers

Richard

^ There's a cool thing that's supposed to work with that...

The story of the ride begins with you taking a normal trip (albeit in full OTSRs) on the Metropolis subway. In the station, there are rubber doors designed to close immediately behind the last carriage which hide the Superman figure behind the train, so it looks like there is only the coaster train in front of you. The figure is obviously there during the dark ride section, but riders can't look back to see him. When you return to the unload station, another set of doors again mask Superman when riders leave the train. Therefore, the only time Superman is visible is when he's pushing the train to safety around the outside part of the track...

... Pretty neat idea hey? I'm sure when Movie World actually get those doors working on a day to day basis it'll look as good as its designed to

The ride looks like it is quite a rush. From the video POV anyway. I like the added touches of the Superman character at the back of the train and how the ride looks like it explodes from the building. I sure wouldn't mind having one in my backyard. In reference to some of the posts about it being 'slow' over the tophat.....who cares, I think it adds character to the ride experience and it sort-of adds to the anticipation of what's ahead.

* Random thought: To bad CP had to remove the rear spoiler and tire special effects on TTD.

That ride looks like so much fun! ...too bad it's in Australia

I think that you all that are trying to find bad things about the ride are just jealous. Face it - it's a great ride which has more to it than just:

FAST! Up up up to 480 feet.... DOWN DOWN DOWN over a HILL and into the BRAKES! <- WOW!!!

I, for one, am glad this one is in Australia, I have family in the USAF stationed in Woomera (sp?) and they finally get to ride a good coaster. At one point, my cousin Jake's favorite coaster was the SLC at Warner Bros. WHAT?!?!?!?!

The sad thing was that the SLC at movie world would have been arguably the best coaster in australia before superman escape opened, and that's not saying it's any good. Here's my oz top ten, other than superman escape it's sad:

1. Superman Escape - awesome rocket.

2. Lethal Weapon - custom SLC, least worst of that type.

3. Tower of Terror - Intamin reverse free fall like at SFMM, ho hum.

4. Cyclone - tamest arrow looper ever.

5. Scooby Doo - indoor wild mouse, great theming, a really good ride, ok coaster.

6. Corkscrew - ancient arrow corkscrew.

...it just gets to pathetic after that.

Coomera? That's where Dreamworld is, lol.

And now I have the word womb in my head.

*shudders*

Slick, Australians are very friendly with their kangaroos, aren't they .

Woomera = Air Force base town in South Australia. Lots of Kangaroos, not many theme parks. Miles away from anywhere - Adelaide is the closest town - which makes it even further away from anywhere even mildly interesting.

Coomera = Where Dreamworld is in Queensland. Not as many Kangaroos, but more theme parks.
