  1. Since you asked, I've spent way too much time researching credit cards..

    Here's what's in my wallet

    Visa/Mastercard

MERRILL+ - I'm not sure you can even apply for this credit card anymore, but it features a locked 5.15% APR, a decent rewards program, no foreign transaction fees, and no annual fee. Plus elevated Visa Signature Benefits. Great card for transacations that you may need to pay over time. https://www.rewards.ml.com/RWDapp/ml/merrillplus

Chase Sapphire - This is the most "modern" card I have..Interest rate is poor at 15.24%, but it has a great rewards program. with double points on travel & dining (great for tpr members).. Annual fee is waived the first year. no foreign transaction fees (another tpr friendly feature). Good point transfer programs. and the card is made of actual metal, which will impress about 1 person a year. https://creditcards.chase.com/sapphire/

    Speaking of metal cards.

    Amex

Amex Business Centurion- When I was younger I thought it would be a great idea to place all of my business expenses on a card so I could get the coveted "black card".. with a current initiation fee of $5000.00 and $1000-2500 in annual fees this card is a complete waste of money. Benefits include everything an amex platinum card has as well as invitations to things you won't want to go to. Around Christmas and the holidays you'll typically get a $500.00 gift certificate to a designer store.. Sadly, most of the places don't sell the hoodies and shorts I like to wear. so----

Amex Personal Platinum- This is a great "pay in full each month" card.. The annual fee is $495. which again is stupidly expensive, but a frequent traveler can "game" the system and save huge money at deluxe resorts.. As an example; Whenever we go to Universal Orlando we can typically stay at the Portofino for half the going rate and get free upgrades to suites thanks to the "fine hotels program".. You'll also get free entry into all of the rental car programs and many frequent flyer status programs.. It's worth the money if you can spend some time figuring out how to beat the system. http://www304.americanexpress.com/getthecard/learn-about/Platinum-Card

    Charge Amex-

Starwood- Arguably the most flexible rewards cards for transferring points to and from frequent traveler/flyer programs. I'd elaborate, but this post is getting too long.. http://www304.americanexpress.com/getthecard/learn-about/Starwood-Preferred/25330?intsearchct=curated

Jet Blue Card- Because I'm stupid and don't have a delta platinum card http://www304.americanexpress.com/getthecard/learn-about/Platinum-Delta-Skymiles

Happy to help anyone out there with any random credit card questions. Best advice- Do your research before applying for anything

  2. Since our entire family is participating, here are all of our interests..

Chris (me!) Raptors! (I have no other interests whatsoever)

Bean (the baby!) cute raptors as well as friendly dinosaurs

Kristin (the awesome wife who puts up with us) absolutely nothing dinosaur related. If for some reason pinterest.com costs less than $25.00 dollars, she'd like that.

  3. Wow. just wow..

So the original poster's metric of success is that if you build a hyper coaster then your park won't close within 20 years?

How about the idea that if your park can afford a capital expense of 20-30 million dollars then they are on solid financial footing?

I'd chock this up to the simple fact that parks that can afford this type capital expenditure are either A- corporate parks or B- Were doing well enough before the coaster was built to afford the expense or C- Have owners that are in it for the long run, no matter if the park has up or down years..

  4. Courtesy of the nice folks over at Orlando United (and Brice for posting a link to this earlier)... So the tubes are filled with rumors saying this is an Intamin designed roller coaster. Unforunately, I'm not an expert on track design like many of you, but based upon the cursory search I just did of track designs; To me this could just as easily be a premier designed track.. Thoughts?

  5. So they are clearly "teasing" this. For the uninitiated, this is the turbo-prop based airplane that Disney has been testing in California over the past few months... The harder question to answer is where does this fit into the Disney cannon? .. While the rumor mill has hinted at this being an Avatar dragon, smarty money says it will be an addition to Fantasmic that premiers in December.

  6. ^^This... And honestly, the last thing an exhibition company like IAAPA is worried about doing the day of the show is creating "IP" signs that meet their design language.... The organizers are typically putting out "real fires" on show days..

Think about what effort was put into this sign.. Booth is banned..The organizers decide to ban the the exhibitor. They contact the PR people to inform the the exhibitor. The PR person has to contact the graphic design company to create a sign that follows the design language of the show.. The sign has to be designed, created, signed off on, printed, and delivered before the show opens.. That's a lot of work, for an arbitrary sign (even with a template).

  7. On the plus side, at least that's one less meal the zoo needed to feed the dogs.

    Scott brings the jokes

this is a young mother that just witnessed her 2 year old baby get torn to shreds by dogs. I'm fairly certain that at least for the time being, there are other things on her mind than dollar signs.

Basic psychology theory says the family will try to rationalize the child's death by blaming the zoo and not their actions. The only thing the zoo can provide is monetary compensation. It will be pursued.

    "The dingoes ate my baby"

    Actually laughed out loud.

I usually give a sadistic laugh when an idiot does something to cause harm to himslelf, but when someone else has to suffer just out of stupidity, I just cannot stand it.

    Quoted for accuracy

How anyone could blame the zoo is incomprehensible.

    Quoted for truth

But still, it is the legal responsibility of the zoo to ensure the safety of all guests and to enforce the rules that they set down. Though, the blame can not be solely pinned on one person. Both parties are at fault here, not just the family.

Best practices ensure safety 99.9 percent of the time.. If I threw my baby over the suicide prevention walls at the Empire State Building observation deck. Is it partially the building's fault because they didn't build the walls high enough?

Everyone does stupid things, albeit some less extreme than others.Nobody is perfect, and people know that. Everyone should be prepared to cover their own stupid things, and to help others. It's what makes a community strong.

So if I drink and drive and kill a bunch of people (or my child) in an accident, should the community help me? should my car have had a system to prevent these deaths?

She ought to forget about suing the park and think about putting together a defense against manslaughter charges.

In America, it's tradition to not pursue charges on parents that have dead children in issues that could be perceived as accidents. State prosecutors typically only pursue these charges if the parents were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

The zoo won't want the negative publicity a 'public' trail will provide, so they will wish to.............settle.(quickly and quietly). The zoo will not admit legal fault, and the parents will receive a LARGE sum of financial compensation.

This is EXACTLY what will happen. The zoo will also require the parents to sign a confidentiality agreement to prevent us from ever learning the terms and to prevent additional negative press to the situation.

If you are still reading this, this was one of the first TPR posts that actually made me sick to my stomach. As a new parent with a young child, the idea of this happening to him is incomprehensible. It's an image I never want to think about again.. That being said; we practice common sense. So, statistically, he'll be just fine.

  8. 2012 was a pretty awesome year.. We had the introduction of polarizing rides like Skyrush, wingriders in the US, the world's tallest Beemer, Transformers, dueling Chinese (American made ) roller coasters that let you high five, and apparently California Adventure welcomed their first guest.. It was a pretty great year.

So assuming the world doesn't end on 12/12/12, What are your most excited for in 2013?
