  1. You mean like the countless test runs it was required to make prior to today? And, "intense real life scenario?" They're not planning a massive nuclear attack evacuation plan for Tampa Bay. They're opening a new roller coaster. There's a glitch. It's being fixed. Done.
  2. WOW, things do move rather fast! I just looked on Busch's site for information about season passes. Apparently they must have already removed the part about a sense of entitlement that comes with owning one.
  3. ^ I don't know about that, in your shoes anyway. Kobe's not an old man by any stretch of the imagination, but those nagging injuries are starting to add up. You should be praying to take another chance with "quality Kobe" while you can.
  4. Good question. As you said, there's no seat belts to restrict anyone, and they did feel pretty accommodating, but that's coming from someone tall and slim. I really didn't notice anyone turned away, but I also didn't see anyone with a significantly larger frame there either, so it's kinda tough to say, I guess. Oh, and by the way.... ...yay for upstop wheels!
  5. Thanks for the kind words, folks. I'll go ahead and give my review of the ride. First off, I think it's a great little coaster. Is it anything that's gonna threaten your top 10 list, or even top 50 for that matter? No, probably not. However, it's just a "fun" ride that's a perfect fit for a park that, despite Six Flags' current slogan of "Go Big," is probably not in the market for another Goliath-sized installation for quite a while. I suppose the only drawback may be the capacity issue, but hey, if you're reading this (which you are!), then you're probably fairly familiar with how to avoid big crowds and make the most of your park visits. As for the layout and ride itself, I mentioned it earlier....it's just fun! It won't blow you away, nor will it bore you. In my opinion it tracks amazingly well, is very quiet, and is pretty well paced. If you want me to be real nitpicky, I'd say that the section between the block brake and the mist tunnel is slightly "meh," but again, that's real nitpicky. The barrel roll immediately makes up for that with awesome hang time though! And let's be honest here, the true test, and subsequent "WIN" is the restraints!! Without question, I'm praying this catches on across the whole industry. Dare Devil Dive is absolute proof that this system can work. I actually just thought of something as I typed that last sentence.....would a holding brake at the top of the tower possibly have required OTSRs? Hmm, if so, I'm happy with the the way things are!! You may notice in the rider cam video that I'm squirming a bit on the lift. That's because I had been nursing a bit of a sore back for a couple of days prior to the event, and I was slightly concerned about riding. Truth is, the seats and lap bars really made it as comfortable as possible. You have great freedom of motion. If anything, it might have actually helped me stretch and loosen up a bit. Hey, DDD is a chiropractic miracle solution as well!! So basically that's it. It's a great "fun" little coaster with a perfect lap bar system, and an absolute perfect fit for the park. Go ride it! Try and think of it this way. With this latest incarnation of the Euro-fighter design and its 2x2x2 seating, Gerstlauer has created sort of an evolution of the wild mouse coasters....on steroids. It's basically a similar formula. The design is compact, economical, and still packs significant thrills for both the general public and enthusiasts alike. And I'll be honest, from what I had seen leading up to the event I was slightly skeptical about the layout as well, but left there pleasantly surprised!
  6. First post updated with final pics. ^ Great to meet you as well! "Six Flags Over Georgia welcomed professional test pilots from Lockhead Martin Aeronautics to experience the new coaster. Bret Luedke, chief test pilot for Lockhead Martin's F-22 Raptor program, was one of the first to sign up. "Dare Devil Dive is as exciting as flying a modern day fighter jet," said Luedke. "From the first drop to the barrel rolls and dives, it's a fantastic ride." (via media kit release) F-22 Raptor pilot, Bret Luedke, who was onboard the first "official" train launched today.
  7. Today Six Flags Over Georgia unveiled its newest coaster, Dare Devil Dive to the media.....and Theme Park Review was there for you! A few quick facts before we dive into the pictures (bad pun intended): - World's first "v-shape" trains with lap bar restraints that hold 6 passengers each. - Each train has stadium seating, providing the best view in each seat. - Riders travel up a 90 degree lift hill reaching a height of ten stories. - The coaster's first drop is beyond-vertical, angling in at 95 degrees. - Elements include a diving loop, barrel roll, and immelman inversion. - Top speed is 52 mph. - Total ride time is 2 minutes. Check out the POV and rider cam of Dare Devil Dive! My review of the ride, Page 3 We're at Six Flags Over Georgia.....but you knew that. Hey, that's us. Noted.Sign Flight School - First Course: Dippin' Dots consumption. Sign. She looks pretty good in the early morning sunrise. Not too shabby against a beautiful blue backdrop either. Queue pic. Most of it seemed to be shaded. The coaster has 4 trains: this blue one, a white, and two blacks....each with different graphics. Seats....with LAP BARS ONLY!!!!! Did I mention, "Yay for lap bars only?!?" Another look from the queue. The mist wasn't turned on until later since it was interfering with the on-board video. Geometry fans rejoice. Either the ride speeds up to about 150mph here, OR I may have been unfamiliar with my loner DSLR's settings. You decide. This tunnel will also be filled with mist later on. This part was themed to Madonna. I'm not quite Hanno......and not worthy of watermarks either. FIRE!!!!!! (kinda) Bread bombs? Sunflowers must die!!! This meal was AMAZING!!! Seriously! During lunch we were treated to the debut performance of "Soda Shoppe Sweethearts," who sang your favorite hits of the 50's. As a fan of that genre, I thought they sounded pretty good! It was a nice touch for that part of the park. As you can tell from the background, the stage sits adjacent to Dare Devil Dive. "Awwwww yeah......" Then the white train came out to play. MISTY!!!!!! And TWISTY!!!!!! After several rides on Goliath it was time to grab our swag and head on out. Can we park here all the time, pleeeease? And with that, we'll leave you with a couple parting shots of Goliath. Thanks to Six Flags Over Georgia and its employees for hosting a great media day event, and thanks to TPR for the opportunity to cover it for ya! Dare Devil Dive is a great fit for the park, and definitely worth a visit this season.....so get on down to Georgia, ya'll!! Decided to add several more pics from the day. Enjoy.
  8. No no no. That's the thing......we TRY to forget what's there.
  9. Thanks. Just when I had hopes that this thread would die out again......
  10. 1988. I know this because I remember being forced there on a school field trip in 8th grade....which sucked. It's another place I'm amazed still exists.
  11. And don't forget, in order to host a quality event/trip it also requires the ability to generally ignore the asshats that don't understand or appreciate the work that does go into it. To me, dealing with the "haters" who don't recognize the business aspect of things is what is most admirable about what they do.
  12. Hmm, if that's the case, then I wish we had more idiotic and expendable youth "planking" on or around various things. Might I suggest: railroad tracks, center lanes of major highways, airport runways.....or take it to a whole new level and be a pioneer in the field - be the first to try and levitate off the side of a bridge or cliff. Just remember to hold the pose!
  13. What if God really was planning for the end of the world to be today, then heard about this prediction and said, "Dammit, I can't let this guy be right. Eh, tomorrow will do"?
  14. They won't even give you the last day on earth off? LAME.
  15. ^ Just you? How is that gonna work for the future of civilization? Jimmy, I gotta admit, this was pretty fascinating.....even to a non-engineer and person who generally laughed his ass off at the project when it took place.
  16. Better yet, if you're on strong prescription drugs, just don't drink....period. Really, it boggles the mind how many people mix the stuff. Sad story, but a bit tough to find sympathy for stupidity.
  17. Well I'll be damned. I thought common sense was just a myth. Nice to see it does prevail every now and then!
  18. Someone needs to send Led Zep west of it to see what happens.
  19. Nice job, Larry. Thanks for the pics of the storyboards before they're all covered in chewing gum.
