Alton Towers Discussion Thread
TPDave replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We had this discussion over at TowersTimes. On first quick read through it appears to say 6 figure salary but read more carefully and inspected it says equivalent to (or words to that effect) 6 figure salary. For all we know he could be getting paid in carrots or guinea pigs. Not quite. Id assume they're paying a 6 figure salary but only for the length of the project. If he works for 3 months he gets paid £25,000. That kind of deal. -
Hey TPR! DCL recently announced some extra additions for it's new ships coming in a few years. These are all pretty cool, a massive waterslide, some awesome restaurants and virtual portholes to name but a few, but we want to know what YOU guys would add to one of the DCL ships!! Give us an idea of what wild and crazy stuff you want to see on a Disney cruise! Use your imagination and try to make us laugh! A couple of rules: 1. Only one entry per person. You can upload as many attempts as you like, but in the description of your one entry, you must write "Official Entry". 2. Keep it PG 13. 3. I will close the contest to new entries on the 4th of December, voting will open up shortly afterwards! 4. The winner will get the biggest bag-o-crap we've ever sent! That's all the rules! Have fun!!

THE one thing the Six Flags Theme parks lack.
TPDave replied to bostonlva's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ The problems with those systems though is the staffing required to gather all the information, relay it to a staff member who then has to update the board on a regular basis. Also, this might only be a "crappy british society" thing, but in the UK parks that have manual wait time boards, they are invariably tampered with by hilarious members of the public. Yes it would be nice to have (Thorpe and Alton have these and it's a great way of planning your day!) but iI can't imagine it's too high up the priorities list of SF right now. Dave "besides, if you have a gold Q-Bot you don't need to know the wait times, you just walk onto the ride!" Wilson -
Congrats guys! Hopefully I'll see you on the Europe tour! Dave

Funfairs are better than our carnivals
TPDave replied to atlantakid's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Yes but those small roads were built "properly", as opposed to being built glass smooth and very quickly at the expense of load bearing capacity. It's an interesting point that I'd never really thought of. It's a bit of a blanket statement to give a single reason why fun fairs aren't as big in the states. Surely things like cultural difference, litigation issues, labour costs etc. all play parts in this? Dave "just speculating" Wilson -

I hope you noticed I even got the hat right! Hanno, I think you should post some of the pictures I took as TPHanno, they certainly rival yours... Also worth noting the Brit Crew related injury on my right elbow. Never let it be said that these trips are without immaturity... -
The Official TPR 2010 Trips Thread
TPDave replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^ Yeah, if you can afford even just a little every month, you might make it on to a 2010 trip, but if you don't you'll have loads of a 2011 trip paid off by next year. If you like theme parks, coasters and people who love having a good time, you need to go on a TPR trip!! I don't think I'm the only person who says that I'm addicted to the trips. Dave "don't drop out!" Wilson -

My leg hurt for ages after that! Nice little TR Divv, i wish I could have stayed to listen to the bands that were playing, but as you said in your terrible currency joke, we had lots of SEK's to get through and we had to move on... Dave "Dicks, knockers and sex, only in Scandi!" Wilson -
Ferrari World Discussion Thread
TPDave replied to Captain Jack's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
One of the modules I'm doing at university is taught by a guy who works for the engineering firm that's pretty much built yas island. We've been going through the Ferrari building in depth and it's simply stunning how it all works and stands up. Not strictly on topic I know but I think the structural design warrants mentioning Dave "The coasters don't look too bad either!" Wilson -

This park was SOOOOOOOOO fun! I adored this place, I could have spent so long here, it was basically the Toverland of the trip for me. The fact that the weather was great made the day even better! The only downside was the crowds, but then again the weather was good. Oh and it was a holiday. It was also a weekend. I think the Road Show was in town too. -
Post your milestone coasters
TPDave replied to bgwfreak's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I didn't start ordering until 167 (East Coast tour), so from that point I have milestones (something I swore I would never do!) 200 - Wild Mouse (Idlewild) 300 - Hunderprut/Dog Fart Coaster! (Bon Bon Land) 400 - Runaway Reptar (California's Great America) I'll probably hit 500 somewhere on the mid-america trip next year. -

Woah, I come back to this thread and there are TWO TR's to catch up on! Awesome Divv, I'm disappointed that you didn't document the awesomeness of us gently persuading Steve to go on the ghost train. I think Robb got it on tape, so we could have a nice little bonus segment on the DVD Nice reports Divv, it's nice to have the memories flood back! Dave -
Thorpe Park Discussion Thread
TPDave replied to Rooey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ Thorpe Park is a victim of it's own success for sure, but surely you should at least be happy that they're putting something in to dilute the crowds? The park is way down on space, and this seems a pretty good solution to get a medium throughput attraction at the park without spending silly money infilling the lake. Dave -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
TPDave replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I think that's what being suggested. Sounds unlikely though as it would create a very long block and probably hinder capacity (especially with what appear to be smaller Intamin trains. Do the plans not show the track layout inside the building? Dave EDIT: Could i not just be maintenance? -
Don't forget Nemesis: Live! That's pretty good...

That was my best "bad weather park experience" (if such a thing exists) I've had! It's a shame that the weather was against us, but we still had an awesome time. The Legoland parks are so charming and just good fun Dave -
Nice stuff Chuck! Looks like you all had an awesome time:) Thanks for the report

^ Yeah, just click the cancel button when there's an embedded CT video in the forum, and check back when CoasterTube is upgraded Dave

Nice little round up Divv This place would have been awesome if it wasn't raining with all the little playground things! It was pretty funny seeing the confused people on the bus that was waiting to get into the park watching us leave! Dave -
Theme Park Review 2010 Trip Flyers!
TPDave replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Did you mean the combined cost of the two america trips? You save about $50 if you do both, I recommend it!! Dave "you can't argue with value!" Wilson
