  1. Let's not let this thread spiral into speculation. Keep his family in your thoughts and if you are able to, donate some money to a very good cause to hopefully prevent other families from going through a similar situation. Here are the links: http://www.lincolnamphitheatre.com/Donate.htm https://www.jdrf.org/index.cfm?page_id=100903 Dave
  2. I was really looking forward to meeting Will this summer, I've read so many great things things about him. 48 is far too young, my thoughts are with his friends and family. Dave
  3. I even have NetShare that was on the app store for about 3 hours before it got taken down so I can tether to my laptop (and do quite often when wi-fi costs money) and I never use more than 2GB a month. I'm pretty sure we're still unlimited on O2 (probably due to multiple carriers in the UK) but I wouldn't mind a 2GB/month restriction. Dave
  4. ^ The stats on Verizon customers waiting for an iPhone are probably compelling reading for Apple, and they have multi-carrier models in many other comparable markets so hopefully you'll be free from AT&T soon! I'm looking forward to this one, I wasn't sure about the styling when Gizmodo leaked it, but it's definitely growing on me Dave
  5. ^ Interesting report Jimmy! I'm un-cultured and had never heard of this place, but I'm intrigued now! Thanks for sharing Dave
  6. Compared to the plastic ones they constrict your shoulders, but that's a bit like saying a lazy boy chair without a footrest isn't comfortable compared to one with a footrest, the restraint it still great. Basically, the fabric ones reduce the amount your upper body moves relative to your waist. As Robb said, they will reduce head banging but not "neck snapping" since there is still a piece of metal going through the restraint. Both restraints are equally good, and I'm not sure most people will really notice the difference... Dave
  7. I also want to make sure it's not overlooked that this has happened a *LOT* with different manufacturers over the years...not just Intamin... For example, all of the Arrow "big three" multiloopers (Viper, Shockwave, GASM) had to have their vertical loops completely re-designed and replaced. All of the early Premier LIM launchers (Mr. Freezes, Outer Limits, Chiller, Jinx, etc) all needed to have their trains re-modified, Zonga's inversions had to be completely re-designed, Rattler's drop had to be re-profiled, all the Deja Vu's...delayed about 6 months, Hypersonic was so bad that it didn't even last 10 years...do we even want to get into what happened to Son of Beast??? So in the grand scheme of roller coaster design f**k ups, all of a sudden Maverick's heartline and i305's trim don't look so bad now, does it? --Robb "Just trying to put things back into perspective here..." Alvey To be honest, I wouldn't even call adding the trims a f*uck up. I would assume (although have no knowledge if I'm right or not!) that Intamin knew *exactly* what this ride was going to do, the train design is well known and the layout has been perfected over many iterations of track design so I think it's conceivable that they planned to make the ride insane and then tone it down to something manageable (from a rider and maintenance perspective) rather than have a sub par experience. Whichever way you cut it, I can't wait to ride this thing in the summer!! I'm glad someone brought this up again as my days in Physics Class were over 25 years ago, but that was what I remember. This same argument came up when they slowed down the chain lift on El Toro and hundrerds of rides later I still feel no difference on the El Toro drop. Columbia, it has the same potential energy, but not the same kinetic energy. If I can be bothered i'll do a couple of sums at some point but the speed of the lift will make a difference to the velocity of the train down the drop, although it will be a tiny and as Larry said, isn't noticeable when you ride. Dave "I just wanted to add that I saw all of this happening way off, the first time I saw a NL recreation I knew something wasn't right!" Wilson
  8. ^^ Have you read any of the posts after the one you quoted was made?
  9. If you don't go to the park, it doesn't frustrate you Dave
  10. Thats Thorpe though. My personal favourite was the purchase of 3 trains for stealth with the logic that there would always be two running. By mid 2007, one of them was pretty much reserved as a filming rig and it ran 1 train most of the times I was there. Dave
  11. Nice TR! Brings all the memories flooding back from last summer. It's nice to see all the parks are looking great still, shame about the new trains at Bakken though. Had you ridden the coaster before? How does it compare now? Dave
  12. Wow, that's an absolute fortune to spend on a dark ride! I'll definitely be making my way over in 2012 if I can make it happen
  13. Wow, amazing TR man! I'm going to Holiday World with TPR in the summer and seeing this just made me so excited about going! Dave "can't wait" Wilson
  14. Trying to sound as non-sarcastic as possible, if he released it just on DVD, it wouldn't really be "RAW HD!". If you don't have a Blu-Ray player, obviously this isn't for you, but I know that if I buy one down the line, i'll definitely be getting this (and any future volumes!) Dave
  15. Awesome report man! I can't wait for this in the summer, it looks like the Toverland/Scandi ropes courses on crack! Dave "I want to ring Dolly's bell!" Wilson
  16. any chance to see that vid without buying the Blu-Ray?? o.O Just buy the DVD! Look at how many coasters are on there, it's awesome value! If I had a Blu-Ray player, I would definitely have mine on order! Dave
  17. This is exactly why Robb and Elissa are totally awesome!! Dave
  18. As far as I know the smart people that bought homes next to the park knowing that it was there started complaining about it, anyone have a better explanation ? My opinion is simple if you don't want to deal with the sights and sounds of an Amusement Park don't buy the house next to one Actually the Ropers were the exception, they moved in before the park became a proper "amusement park". I believe they've moved now, I'm not certain though... Dave
  19. ^ Once you actually visit the park, trust me you'll be impressed. In '08 I really wasn't expecting too much but I was absolutely blown away!
  20. ^ Well when you put it like that... Great report as always Chuck! I can't wait to ride these things in the summer Dave
  21. I would like to point out that the photo I took in the garage would have been absolutely EPIC were it not for the fact that the girl couldn't hear me and ended up getting blinded... Anth, It would have made your night if she heard what I said to her And yes, it was definitely Shark Attack 3 Dave
  22. ^ They were wearing wetsuits, but they were also very hardy men from far off countries like Russia, Poland, Serbia and England... Divv, I think you need to do another update when you stop bloody working or going to school or trying to have a life! We need pictures of garage and my amazing pic of Anth and his new friend Dave
  23. You'd be more jealous if we showed you pictures of the amazing British food we had for lunch...
  24. Awesome update! Some of those shots are stunning!! I can't wait to ride this thing, it looks immense Dave
