  1. We would be excellent ride mates for Fury. I enjoy the front left seat (the one closest to the dispatcher).
  2. I rode Intimidator on the back row for the first time yesterday (have only done front row rides before) and it was a blast back there. Other than that, I'm a front row guy.
  3. One of the online coupon sites (Groupon? Living Social?) had an all-in pass that included parking for $40 or so. Bojangles, a fast-food chicken joint around here, has -- IIRC -- $22 off a ticket for up to 6 tickets. Don't know if either has black-out dates.
  4. Not that I know of. Depending on how close you are, Uber/Lyft might be an option.
  5. 2009 (and even 2010) were exactly good years economically. I think every entertainment industry saw a drop.
  6. It's hard to cancel a rumor. I wouldn't consider something canceled until it's been announced and then canceled.
  7. If Copperhead Strike is open when you get there, go ride it. There are times it will go down during the day, so you don't want to miss your opportunity. Most of the time, it's only down for 15 minutes or so, but can be longer.
  8. We'll (kids and I) will probably be there around 4 or 5pm. Expecting light lines for everything until they close at 8.
  9. We're flying into Albuquerque to do our Grand Canyon trip in a couple of weeks. Only about a 6 hour drive, but we're making a week of the trip. Couple days in ABQ; a couple days to drive to Williams, AZ; taking a train to the canyon for a day; couple days back to ABQ (ending with Cliff's Amusement Park). We're hitting a few parks on the trip, too. Petroglyph in ABQ and Petrified Forest along the way. Also going to Meteor Crator and a couple other spots. We thought about Vegas as our airport, but the prices to stay there a night or two, along with towing two kids, made it not worth it.
  10. Is there a page with details on these savings? The page to purchase a new one doesn't have any details other than the cost. And while I have no problem supporting a site I use, any perks related to the card would be nice to know up-front. Edit: I'm blind. There's a link to "Benefits" and "Events" at the top.
  11. There was definitely one at the Pavilion in Myrtle Beach (which is what it was called in the early-90s). I distinctly remember riding it with my cousin.
  12. ^ Depends on what time you're there. With education days, the park will empty as the groups leave for the day. You eluded to it a bit, but this isn't as good a deal with season passes and meal plans already. The only thing you're getting is the overnight camping and a few hours of ERT for $60/person. I wonder if they'd ever thought about a cheaper package for season pass holders to account for the tickets and meals, similar to the break in price for concerts there.
  13. Being out of amusement parks for a decade or so, coupled with not being a flat ride fan before that, I've never ridden gliders before Mountain Gliders. Having ridden them a half-dozen times or so, they're probably my most favorite non-coaster ride in the park. Yet, I hear how bad they are, or at least how bad they are in relation to how they were when previously at Camp Snoopy and (I believe) KI before. Can someone explain what makes them bad or overrated? I've never had a problem getting them to whip - at least what I would consider whipping it - and the feeling of doing it is great. So what made them better before?
  14. Also, realize to save on your ticket costs, you can get season passes that work at multiple parks in the same chain. If you're planning on visiting a lot of parks, you might decide to visit a lot by the same company, making the pass worth it.
  15. My argument for removing it is that it's not a popular ride. And, spare parts won't help much if they convert to floorless. With all of what I've said, I really couldn't care less what they do with Vortex. With the nearby rapids plot opening, it would allow some extra room for whatever goes in Rapids to have some space across the walkpath to play with. The wing coaster idea is simply a wish and my idea of making that section of the park work with the already-existing land to thrill both riders and people walking by - just as Fury does with its over-and-under at the entrance.
  16. They definitely are gone. From what I understand, it was a contracted 6-year attraction, which is up at Carowinds this year.
  17. But people aren't waiting 20-40 minutes for it. You'd be lucky to see a 20-minute wait. Trusting the Carowinds app for wait times isn't any more accurate than my own eyes, though I do understand the website probably considers it the most accurate source. I'm not even sure how the app determines wait times.
  18. I've been at the park almost every operating day so far this year. I've ridden (checks his logs) Intimidator 4 times and Vortex twice and walked by both numerous times. In my personal experience, Vortex has been running two trains, with very little queue. If there's a 20-minute wait, it's because you're at the bottom of the stairs and they have horribly-slow dispatch times. Even with that, it's not at a constant 20-minute, and certainly not a 40-minute. I've never seen queue-times. How do they determine those wait times? Cause I'm going to assume it's by people reporting their wait times. And that's just as anecdotal as our own experience. Why would they do that? Because the ride is too short (which was a complaint in 1992) and I don't think adding a different train type will build enough demand to be worth it. Take it out and couple it with a new ride that takes over RRR. It'll bring much higher demand, and the look of a ride "interacting" with that walkway will be much more pleasing than a ride essentially hidden by the shops, bathroom, and ivy-covered tunnel.
  19. Rip out Vortex and you have a neat transition between it and the RRR area. A chance to go over the walkway twice. Maybe a wing coaster with an almost-upside-down element over the walkway - once with the left side getting the big "swing", and once with the right side.
  20. The hot sauce is good. I had heard they were bottling and selling it, but have yet to see it in any of the stores in the park.
  21. If you have a meal plan / drink cup added on to a Platinum Pass, it works at all parks. The benefits are tied to the pass, so if your pass works elsewhere, so will your benefits. In 2017 my family did a Carowinds - Kings Dominion - Kings Island - Cedar Point trip (with our home park and Platinum Passes from Knott's) and our meal plans and drink cups worked at all parks no problem. I suppose it's possible things have changed in the last two years, but I am certain the option exists! To add to this: You have two options: the plastic souvenir sipper cup or a paper cup every time you get a drink. We opted for the paper cup. You might get less drink per visit, but you don't have to walk around with the plastic cup, which can't be stored at Fury or CS. You also have to remember to bring it every time you visit, and clean it between visits. Too much work when I know I can walk up and get a cup without any worries.
  22. Glad you had fun! I moved from St. Louis to Charlotte last year. I feel Carowinds is a much better park than SFSL. I will say that many, many people will add Afterburn to that world-class status. It's considered one of the best invert coasters.
  23. Tried telling my son that after we rode Intimidator this past weekend. He's still not braving Fury yet.
