  1. Wow this thread has been active recently, reminds me of the good old days when everyone was still happy with CF and VF. Regarding recent comments, I figured I would provide a little of my own story to justify opinions. I have not made the trip out to Valleyfair at all this season. Nor am I sure if I plan on going at all this season with no new rides or Haunt. In all honesty, the monster truck event is the only thing they have going for them in my opinion. Next year I plan on going down to Adventureland and Lost Island since they will have a fair amount of new rides to try out with Matugani and the log flume/ coaster at Adventureland. So from an enthusiast perspective, Cedar Fair has definitely been loosing fans, such as myself, to local competition. Now I will say, there definitely are loyal Minnesotans that make going to VF a tradition every year, but in my opinion, Cedar Fair has grown way too comfortable with this audience and, as a result, has been unwilling to give any large investment to VF knowing they have loyal fans that will continue showing up every year. I personally have stopped buying a Gold pass, and will not get one until they get a decent addition.

Regarding other comments, people really need to stop buying into the whole TikTok rollercoaster teaser. VF's marketing team loves to capitalize on the fact that the park is often neglected by CF. Remember that last year they posted frequent troll teasers on their social medias. Heck they even deemed Valleyscare as the place where rides go to die a few years back. Yes Valleyfair is very much so due for a new coaster, but will it actually come, most definitely not. Just because we can build above 300 feet now does not mean that we will be getting anything that tall anytime soon.

With that being said though, optimism for the future of VF is still good and it always brings some good discussion to this thread.

Not going to get my hopes up but that time of year is coming around again. Any new rumors or speculation revolving a 2023 addition to the park?

Valleyfair's social media has been about as dry as this thread recently with not hinting at anything, so in my mind that means VF is getting nothing next year. With all the attention that other Cedar Fair parks are getting, the chances of them spending any money on VF is very low in my mind. If we're lucky we'll see some new trash cans next year.🥲😂

I am friends with the previous GM of Valleyfair.  He told me that Haunt was their MOST profitable time of the year.  So the argument that it was all passholders that didn't spend just doesn't hold water.  Still doesn't make sense why they dropped Haunt.  But I would be even more shocked if  they didn't bring it back especially after they see the significant drop in revenues with this new Halloween event.

They are dropping Haunt temporarily to make way for the new giga coaster supports. Then after that they'll have the ability to reconfigure the mazes around the new coaster.😂

Looks like Haunt is done at Valleyfair

But wait is that a new coaster in the concept art?😂 Also love how they used other Cedar Fair parks in the concept art. I can clearly see Cedar Point in the background of one.

I am genuinely surprised that they would make this kind of a move considering how successful haunt / Valleyscare has been in the past for them. I Just scrolled through the comment section on instagram and twitter and many others are sharing the same opinion: this is not going to go well for them. The only thing I can hope is that they knew they would need all of the space back where dinos is for a new coaster and needed to come up with a different plan for haunt. But this also doesn't make sense since they could've just either relocated the current mazes that are in dinos area or just went without them and still have kept the other mazes.

Overall nothing has changed, not happy with management as always. They're taking the whole "VF is a family park" way too seriously. NU in my mind is more of a family park and is located what, 20 minutes away? Plus NU has halloween events every year for kids as well, don't they?

Did we all see the news from the Sally Corporation booth at IAAPA where they present some information about the dark ride they are building for this park?

In The Loop posted a YouTube video that showcased the presentation. In the video, they also showed a park map with a few (Future) references such as a spinning coaster and a flying coaster. The river rapids ride is also listed as a future addition. Hopefully they stick to the plans and build these rides, it would definitely add to their already impressive lineup. 6. The park officially announced what they're doing next year. Here's the link...

Hopefully when they renovate Coasters they will add on to it to increase capacity. That place is always so crowded during meal hours.

The new bar is an exciting addition. Whenever I would walk by superior stage, it would always be crowded so maybe they will also change up the area a little bit to help with foot traffic.

Meanwhile I am very excited to see what the new Halloween celebration is they are talking about. Valleyscare is always a large money magnet for VF so it's exciting to see Cedar Fair recognizing this. Curious if this involves moving around Haunt mazes located behind high roller to other locations in the park in order to make room for coaster supports. Now that VF can build above 300 feet, I would love to see a giga over there. Will it ever happen though, most definitely not unfortunately.

Overall I'm not too disappointed as I knew Covid would really affect Cedar Fair parks, specifically VF. However, I do wish they were doing more if this was a year reserved only for general improvements. I would've loved to see more renovated bathrooms or new smaller food venues.

They also just announced that they are looking forward to a bigger and better Grand Carnivale in 2022.  I hope that's not all they do next year but it probably is.  Now is the time to search the grounds for any survey markings.  If they do plan to add a new attraction next year they would need to start building soon.

They also posted something saying "Now that the party is over, stay tuned for your regularly scheduled coaster content." Maybe they'll be doing something else on top of GC next year? How much does something like GC actually cost to put on?

In case anyone hasn't seen it- the height restriction over Valleyfair really is 310 to 320 feet now, depending on what side of the park it is.

Reference the Metropolitan Airport Commission  - See pages 22, 26, 61 and 131  (of the PDF file itself, that's pages 26, 30, 65 and 135)

One can dream... even if a giga is only a dream   🤪

I was just thinking about this. It definitely brings a little optimism to the table. Anyone know if Valleyfair has filed any permits or trademarks from the city of shakopee? Who am I kidding? I'm getting ahead of myself. But then again national coaster day is around the corner...

  9. Grand Carnivale actually hasn't been all that bad so far. Whenever I've been there the crowds have been massive. The lines for rides are really backed up and the parking lot has been full even up by ripcord. Now idk how much GC cost to put on and if VF has been making a profit but I do know one thing: We've been proving to Cedarfair that VF can indeed pack crowds.

I haven't yet been to Grand Carnivale but from what I'm hearing from a friend that goes almost daily, it is doing it's job!  Even before GC started the crowds this year have been nuts which is understandable with pent up demand.  He has sent pics showing cue lines for Excalibur nearly out to the sidewalk!  He was able to talk to someone in management and was told that they were expecting crowds of 20K + for GC!  That's insane.

Cedarfair has said in the past that it will invest in parks only after it see's the crowds.  So maybe bringing in GC is a test for Valleyfair to see if they can draw the crowds.  Clearly it is.  Plus GC has been really well received by the general public.  This plus Haunt this fall, Valleyfair could possibly bring in record profits.

Are they doing Haunt/ Valleyscare this fall? I have not heard anything about it yet. With that being said the park was indeed incredibly busy opening weekend of GC and hopefully will draw in Cedar Fair's attention. Especially with competition ramping up with Lost Lsland and Adventureland, I'm actually optimistic for once that we can be getting something.

They're counting down the years until they get a new coaster.

Valleyfair really does need a coaster though. They have an rmc Raptor coming to Sioux Falls eventually. It got delayed due to covid but never canceled officially. Then they have lost island theme park coming in with a intamin launch and Venom invert coming. Adventureland just got a sms free spin ride and has had 3 Coasters built in the last 5 years. I'm sure Cedarfair management has noticed this and will give more attention to Valleyfair.

  12. I noticed that Valleyfair's new coaster is ranking 3rd on USA Today's poll for best new amusement park attraction of 2018, with only Steel Vengeance and Time Traveler ahead of it. Is it really that good, or is everyone just glad that the park finally added something new?

I'll lose my faith in humanity (at least, the part of it that voted in this poll) if a Super Loop beats Hangtime.

    “It’s not a coaster”

  13. ^

I don’t see Corkscrew going anywhere until the park adds a new looping coaster, they’ve been maintaining it pretty well over the years. The Wave also probably still has some life left, it’s popular with families and draws a fairly long line on warm/hot days.

As for a Blitz coaster, while it would be wonderful if the park had a Maverick-like coaster, Cedar Fair is not going to drop $20 million+ on a new coaster at Valleyfair, at least not anytime soon.

they could make it an inverting coaster. and they could make a nice new log flume ride where the amphitheater. and yes that is all way too expensive for cedar fair to put at their second smallest park.

I don’t see a flume ride coming back as Minnesota already has a good one at the MoA and correct me if I’m wrong, but I also don’t find them to be all that popular among the general public anymore.
