Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
WolfBobs replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Don't usually bother with trip reports but I'll give a brief rundown for today. Made it to the park around 10am to avoid the storms, made the right choice in going today spur of the moment. Lines were non-existent at most rides and other than SV most were maxing out around 10 mins tops. MF was even allowing you to re-enter the line at the gate located on the exit platform as the line was a 1 train wait for most of the day while I was there. SV was approximately a 1 hour and 15 minute wait when we entered the line. I felt it moved fairly quickly even with one train. When we got off the line was even shorter and I would estimate it was about 30-45 minute wait. Light crowds today so no TTR tickets. Seems to be reserved for heavier crowd days when lines get over 2 hours. (this may have been discussed in some detail already) But, the interesting thing I noticed was the work going on at the old AWE stadium site. About 20 stakes are in the ground and quite a few trenches dug with electrical conduit being laid in them. The trenches spread out in a fork pattern and looked like they were leading out to where concrete pads for flats could be located. The stakes on the other hand looked unrelated to the trenches and conduit and felt like they could be for future footers. At this point it could be for anything and the enthusiast in me wants a Wild Mouse or a Family Invert. Will be fun to keep an eye on this area this season and see how it progresses! Sorry for no pics, the best view is from the top of WindSeeker. -

Probably... Halloweekend Saturdays. Those days are just stupid nuts. I constantly saw this ride have a 1.5-2 hour wait during the day on Halloweekend Saturdays. Once the haunts opened up it would generally drop back to a >15 minute wait. These OSU days should almost be their own 2-3 day event. It's insane how many people show up to this one day event. -

Went to the Wednesday evening Hoedown event and I must say I loved it. Very well thought out and an amazing perk for being a passholder. I hope this becomes a tradition for the park as the event is a winner. All the new BBQ offerings were very good and I'm excited for the future of CP food service if this is a sign of an ongoing overhaul. Waited a total of 3 hours to ride Steel Vengeance due to multiple periods of downtime. A good portion of which involved the lap bars not releasing when the trains would park and the operators having to manually release the riders. If I wasn't standing at the air gates I may not have waited it out but I persevered knowing that 3 hours will most likely be the average stand by wait this summer. This may be the first ride that motivates me to splurge on a FL+ at my home park. The 3 hour wait was worth it however. Steel Vengeance is my new favorite ride at CP and probably going to be my new "#1" (I don't keep rankings). Once CP and RMC can work the bugs out that are plaguing their restraints this ride could be perfect! But I won't worry too much about issues popping up on the 5th overall day of operation. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

Because they can. Why not? I'm not saying they are or should, but what would it matter? Cedar Fair likes big stuff. Yea, why did Point build Steel Vengeance? We already HAD rides with 200ft drops!! Waste of money! Dive coasters already take up little room compared to other types of coasters. I could easily see this being 300ft. Or I could see this being smaller and that tunnel is actually for the second drop of the ride. We just don't know. We technically don't even know this is a Dive Machine yet even though all the evidence suggests it is. Either way, there is always enough room if a park wants to get creative and if they're willing to pay the cash. -

^Thanks for the update! If I can make one suggestion as someone who has only been to CW once and isn't that familiar with the park. I think the videos could be improved upon if you had some of those red clickbait circles around the areas as you discuss them. Or arrows or something. But again thanks for the videos and the updates. -

Winterfest confirmed??! Really looking forward to May 2 for the passholder preview night. Looking at the "Way to early to matter in Ohio cause it'll change 1,000,000 times anyways forecast" (and yes, I live in Cleveland so I know I'm stupid for looking) I may have lost the weather lottery for the day I picked. But oh well. I'll gladly take a chilly rainy ride! This may be the first season I invest some cash into a FL+ for a visit. -
TPR 2017 Coaster Poll Results!
WolfBobs replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Out of curiosity it was said that part of the poll takes into account how many coasters a person has ridden. Do these persons rankings offer more weight? Or am I not understanding that correctly? And if so, If a person has ridden say 300 coasters, but only ranked a top 25 for this poll. Would that skew results at all? Just curious cause I personally was too lazy to go back and try to figure out how I would rank the 300-ish coasters I've ridden. Since I never rank coasters to begin with. I just did a top 25. But if this messed with any results I will try better next year to not be lazy! Still kinda surprises me Fury 325 didn't crack the top 10. Love that these polls really show how varied individual opinions are. -

^From the website the riders will get an assigned time to get in line. Hopefully that keeps waits under 30 mins or so since there wont be a rush. Plus with Maverick, Skyhawk, Mine Ride (my fave!), WaveSwinger, Antique Cars and the free food and drink there should be plenty of things to do besides drool and wait for Steel Vengeance. -

The Official "TPR Coaster Poll" Thread!
WolfBobs replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Out of curiosity, will this be a "living" poll with updates on a regular basis? Monthly for example? Or will results be released once a year with data being collected all year? Or something like "you have 2 weeks to update your rankings" and new results are released annually? Just curious what the plan was. -
Moreys Piers Discussion Thread

^Thanks, just trying to figure out the best option. Gonna be there on a Tuesday so if there still is a wristband promo I'm hoping to score that. Definitely gonna grab my nephews wristbands but the debate is if 70 tickets will be enough for myself or my bro. Neither one of us are big flat ride guys but we wanna hit the coasters, flume, dark rides, etc. Probably 1 ride each on the Vekomas unless the SLC is as good as I've been reading. So, long run 4 wristbands may just be the way to go. Thanks for the advice! Edit: looking at the website I'm at 102 tickets and that's just a single ride on most things.. looks like it's a wrist band for me lol -

^I'm still planning on trying to get a ticket even if it is only valid for 1 ride on Steel Vengeance. Plenty of time throughout the season for more. But this sounds like they are planning it in a way to have a minimal wait. I am curious if the vouchers for Steel Vengeance rides will have a time stamp on when to get in line. Very curious to see how this will work. Plus Maverick, Mine Ride, Skyhawk, etc and complimentary food (assuming samplings of the new Frontier Town offerings) and drink. Sounds like a perfect Passholder Preview compared to how things were done the past few seasons. I'm really hoping this goes over well and it's something we see on an annual basis. -

Hmm.. This event is a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. That's unexpected. Could cut down the crowds even more since it'll be a school/work night. Definitely gonna try to grab a ticket to this. Fingers crossed our Ohio weather is decent! -
Few reasons as stated prior in the thread, but I'll highlight a few. -Constant cash flow throughout the year. This looks better on the books and to investors. Having cash coming in even during months the parks are closed. -Higher rate of sign ups. We keep seeing SF report growth in their membership sales. Personally the closest SF park to me is about 6-7 hours away. I still have a membership due to the low monthly cost. Psychologically it's easier for someone to part with $9/month then $200+ up front. (depending on park, used $200 as an example) -Higher retention rate. Memberships force people to go through a cancelation process. Compared to just NOT renewing it. I'm sure they have thousands of membership holders who may not even remember they have a membership. That's just a few examples, I'm sure there are tons more with the financial numbers to back it up.

Carowinds Discussion Thread
WolfBobs replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My personal enthusiast wet dream would be they move it to MIA and then convert it to floorless. That would open that space up for a modern looper from Gerstlauer, MACK or a B&M wing. Whilst giving MIA a decent sitdown B&M at a fraction of the cost. Doubt this would happen but in my mind it's a perfect scenario for both parks. The sportsplex tidbit in that above photo is not surprising. CF has stated they will look into building more of those and Carowinds seems like a perfect spot. Almost perfect year round weather for most outdoor sports. They would get a ton of usage from it there. It already had a very successful first year in Ohio, I'm sure it would do even better in the Carolinas. -
I live in Ohio, no where near a Six Flags park. However, I choose to have a membership cause I don't really notice the $9/month coming out of my account. I make sure to visit a SF park at least twice a year to get my monies worth. If they only have an annual pass option I wouldn't invest the large up front cost and hope I can get to a park. I'm probably not the only one who views it this way. 5-6 maybe more years ago CF sent a survey out on the possibility of a membership program. At the time (even with GL/WWK open) I didn't see the value in it and said so in the survey. But now, after using the SF membership for about 3 seasons I think I would reconsider it for CF if they were to offer a program. I like the easy pay 6 payment plan option, but it would be nice to divide up the cost evenly over 12 months.

Once I get my bonus I'm donating $5,000 to get my name on a brick! In more realistic news for anyone wanting some GL nostalgia. A local family fun park called Funtime Fun Park in Alliance, Ohio (Formerly the Caddie Shack http://caddieshackohio.com/ ) purchased and will reopen the GL Tilt-A-Whirl this summer. Anyone interested in mini-golf, go-karts, and a Tilt-A-Whirl should check them out. hope it's okay I posted the link, if not mods please delete -
Dollywood Discussion Thread
WolfBobs replied to crispy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I could see a hyper going in this area eventually to be the star attraction. Maybe not for 2019 but I could see it by 2021. I also wouldn't be surprised if it was from B&M. Staying safe with a manufacturer that has a long track record of quality rides after the huge amounts of downtime Lightning Rod has had. But just my humble opinion. This will continue to be a fun project to keep an eye on over the next few years. Its not often that American parks outside of Disney have the opportunity to add such a huge new expansion. Looking forward to my next Dollywood trip!
