  1. If it was a little jab he was throwing at anyone it would probably be at other parts of the country, as that's why he said "This is the Midwest. We don't believe in making things unnecessarily complicated", like maybe say the North East, or the Western parts of the USA, which have more regulations and people themselves, make it harder to go about doing something that should be easy.

    Bingo. 10 points to Griffindor.

I'm gonna let my nerd side show here. It's spelled Gryffindor.

Um...I'm using...the traditional Welsh spelling! Yeah, that's it.

    Damn it, I've been out-nerded!

  3. Thank you on behalf of all of us for subjecting yourself to Pointbuzz so we don't have to.

I dunno who Nina Kleppe is but I'm sure she likes this as do I. Hilarious. Thank you Been a while since I looked at that forum.

I have no idea what the last few pages are about, but I gather we are in the throws of winter. Even though it isn't winter. I'm just scanning for pictures of you know what...

Hell, I've been on this site for 2 years, and I'm still not entirely convinced Nina Kleppe is a real person.

  4. If your concerned about disposable cups, look no further than holiday world and how they handle it.

I would like to know, too. How do they handle it? Thanks in advance.

They have a stack of paper cups next to the drink station. You get one, fill it, drink, then toss your cup in the trash. Or if you want, you can take the same cup back to another drink station and fill it again. This is the Midwest. We don't believe in making things unnecessarily complicated.

Ohio IS in the Midwest, my friend.

  5. I feel kinda oddly about Valravn. Firstly, I thought it was pretty intense since I greyed out after the first drop atleast two of the three times I rode it. Secondly, I thought the restraints felt uncomfortable, even though I had absolutely no problem with GateKeeper's. I suspect both of those things has to do with the fact that I rode Valravn much later than the other rides and were probably sore and tired. I did however feel a lot of airtime during both of the drops.

As for ranking I'd put it right under Raptor, which means 6th best for me. The theming was kinda halfassed and barely-existent in a way that you felt like they only did it so they could call it a themed ride (talking about the AR stuff). If I'm completely honest I kinda hope CP doesn't start theme their rides because that's always what I found charming with Cedar Point; it has the atmosphere of a giant boardwalk park almost.

Eh, greyouts can definitely be a sign of a truly forceful ride, but everybody has a different G-force tolerance than others. For some (me), greyouts can happen somewhat easily on rides like Wild Eagle, Invertigo, and KI Vortex. For others, they almost never happen. If you don't grey out on i305, you're probably expected to live forever.

  6. I always thought the B&Ms complimented the Intamins really well at Cedar Point. Are the B&M's (aside from Raptor of course) overly forceful? No. But they're incredibly fun rides. I absolutely love dive coasters and Valravn is no different, the feeling of power and speed if pretty awesome on that ride, as is the view and the 2 dives. I also really enjoy the barrel roll, it's forceless but has a cool floating sensation to it.

As far as Rougarou goes, I actually think it's the most forceful floorless out there aside from Dominator. Don't get me wrong, a "forceful" floorless coaster isn't saying much, but it's kind of snappy and fun. I think it's the weakest B&M in the park but it's a very good ride. As for Gatekeeper, I absolutely love the thing. The first drop is insane, the keyholes are fun and I really like the sensation of flying that it provides. Raptor is forceful and awesome but I'm not really talking about Raptor. We all know that already.

I never felt like the park had a "bipolar" coaster lineup, it just has a great variety of rides. Aside from Corkscrew there really isn't a dud in the bunch, and even Corkscrew has it's good points. It's not rough enough to be unbearable and while it's by no means a good ride, kids seem to really like it, it has some historical value and it looks spectacular. They have a great collections of Arrows to compliment the B&Ms and Intamins which round things out nicely (and having a collection Arrows that don't suck makes them kind of unique to be honest)... I have to admit I can't really find any issues with their coaster lineup. I felt like Valravn was just the icing on the cake and putting an RMC into the mix is flat out ridiculous. I can't wait.

I don't want to come across as a fanboy but I really can't objectively find any issues with this stacked coaster lineup. I guess maybe they could use another high intensity coaster to compliment Maverick, Dragster and Raptor but by the looks of things we won't have to wait very long.

I thought Maverick, Magnum, Rougarou, Valravn, Blue Streak and Corkscrew all hurt more or less

I have a few tips for these, they may work, they may not... but it's worth a try. That's a fair assessment of Corkscrew. Riding in the first row of the back car is my best advice but you're not going to have a pain free ride on Corkscrew ever, it's not THAT bad though. Blue Streak (like all 3 bench PTC wood coasters not located in Elysburg, PA) runs much better in a non wheel seat. That ride can jackhammer quite a bit in a bad seat but this can easily be avoided by sitting in a middle row of any car. With Magnum, tighten the seatbelt as much as possible to avoid slamming into the bar. I used to hate the ride but that trick made me love it.

As far as Maverick and Rougarou being rough... I've got nothing. I have no idea why people think Rougarou is rough and Maverick was always awesome and smooth and is even more awesome and smooth with the new vests. With both of them you should keep your head forward and lean into the turns but that goes for every coaster so I can't really help you there. Eat some Wheaties before going to the park maybe? IDFK.

Rougarou has never been that rough, but I vastly preferred Mantis. The new floorless trains still make it far from a bad ride, but it just doesn't have that floaty intensity that Mantis had. At least I got to ride Mantis in its last season before it was closed. Unlike MS...

  7. ^I don't have any numbers but I don't see Diamondback coming anywhere remotely close to 1500 an hour since the addition of seatbelts. And Banshee is good, but they'd have to do 54 trains in an hour to get 1700, which I'd guess has happened maybe once in three years.

See my post above this one. It is very possible at Banshee. Everything has to be running very smoothly. From the entrance to the separator to the bar checkers to the exit. As soon as the train stops, the bar checkers need to be in that train opening the seats, and ushering guests out and in.

Some may have notices the lift has several speeds. If we can get a train out of the station right at 20 seconds after the scream it will literally crawl up the lift. I say this all the time. The longer the train is on the lift, the longer we have in the station to check seats.

I am very proud of the work the Banshee crews have done.

In 2017 I am hoping to be placed at Mystic, but will still be happy if I am placed at Banshee again. Maybe do a season at Mystic then go back to Banshee.

Absolutely, I saw your post in the "favorite ride to operate" thread. Really interesting stuff, thanks for that.

But the reality is that the majority of the time, you're not sending out 53 trains in an hour. You don't determine an average capacity based on what the ride could theoretically do that's really only been done for one hour in a ride's debut year. In most cases, I'd assume sending out somewhere closer to 45 trains in an hour (just a rough estimate), which is still really good. It's just not fair to say that Mystic Timbers' line will move 50% faster than Prowler's because Banshee's crew hit theoretical capacity once. It's just not gonna happen all the time, though I'm sure Mystic will be a little more efficient than Prowler--just not 15 trains an hour faster.

Speaking of high capacity, I vaguely remember an old video (90% sure it was TPR, maybe not though) of some fairly obscure older wooden coaster. Great ride, but the big thing mentioned in the video and description was that ride ops were able to load and dispatch a train in around 14 seconds. Any help here, perhaps the video itself or at least what coaster it was?

It was probably Phoenix at Knoebels. They tend dispatch trains within 20 seconds of the train arriving in the station. It may be a little longer now that they have air gates in the station.

Maybe. But if I remember right, the ride used old fashioned open-front style trains. You know, what GCI bases their design off of. I'm just the kind of person that's going to slowly be driven insane by the fact that I can't remember something seemingly simple and memorable.

  9. I've never been impressed by WOF operations during any of my visits. I'm hoping Mystic Timbers will pump trains out similar to Banshee. If the crew KI assigned to Banshee when it was their new star attraction will be any indication of the kind of crew they will assign to Mystic Timbers, I think we'll be a lot better off than Prowler. Also, doesn't Prowler have two trains and isn't Mystic Timbers getting three?

I was more so referring to the efficiency numbers. A few sources have noted that most GCIs somewhat similar to MT run around 800-1000 riders per hour. Granted, that's best case scenario, so I wasn't factoring in how the staff runs their rides. But considering KI regularly runs Diamondback around 1,500 with bins, and has Banshee knocking on the door of 1,700 without them, I'm sure Mystic Timbers should be able to run at or near the (estimated by KI) capacity of 1,200 rph.

  10. I feel like Banshee always has consistent lines. With their stellar operations it's an absolute capacity monster. Otherwise, I estimate Banshee's queue would always be about the length of Diamondback's queue, which I have always seen to be consistently longer by at least a few switch backs.

Didn't think about efficiency. Banshee is a bit more efficient than Diamondback, and since the lines move quicker, they often appear shorter. So looking at the efficiency of similar rides to MT (looking at you, Prowler), it looks like we should be in for some long waits.

  11. Me too. That entire area from Beast to D-Back is really great. There are a plethora great offerings:

    Diamondback

    Log Flume

    Mystic Timbers

    The Train

    Beast

The beer man in the sports bar

The beer man in between Stunt Coaster and Beast

The rapids ride (if you're into that kind of thing)

In between rides you can grab a beer from any of the TWO beer men in that area and enjoy watching Diamondback splash downs while listening to the music that plays in that area. Some people prefer the beach... Not this guy.

Of note, you can tell I couldn't care less about ride names.

All of this being said, I feel like with Mystic Timbers next year, that already-crowded area is going to be absolutely packed. That is, if Timbers holds popularity. I mean, is it me, or did Banshee's line get short awfully quick after opening?

  12. To put my two cents on the Magnum debate- I completely disagree with re-tracking it, although some spots could use a little smoothing-out. However, I'm in full support of adding some sexy new B&M trains. I'm hearing nothing but glowing reviews of the B&M trains on Steel Dragon. And while yes, I know Arrow uses a very different track/wheel system than B&M or Morgan, I think it's definitely possible, and would fall right in line with updating and slightly improving the ride whilst keeping enough of it intact to please the people who value the history of the coaster. Now as for Boulder Dash losing its triple up...
