  1. Yeah I don't know about "undisputed", I love Mako to death but I can think of quite a few coasters in Florida I prefer. To each his own though. I could absolutely see why someone would find Mako the best coaster in Florida. I definitely prefer a handful of coasters at BGT, Mummy, a certain yeti infested mountain at Animal Kingdom and a flying coaster on the other side of the same park but that's just me.

Then again... I'm awful at ranking coasters. If you ask me what my favorite coaster in Florida is every day for 3 days you might get 3 different answers between Montu, Kumba and Everest. It's insane how many awesome coasters and rides are all located within 90 minutes of each other and I'm jealous of everyone that lives there.

I should have said it as I would have no problem with the statement. I find myself asking the same questions often. Although I do feel confidently that Mako is the best "traditional" coaster in at least Florida. Several other themed coasters at Disney and Universal are BETTER rides I think but they are a completely different ride experience so I tend to exclude them.

  2. Holy hell, what is up with this park? Putting a lot of effort into landscaping for regional parks isn't often heard of, but this effort they've put in over the off-season is very reminiscent of BGT. Obviously it's not on the same level, but the cleanliness, well-maintained open spaces, and the topiaries (duh) make it hard not to think of BGT when looking at these pictures.

Whatever motivated them to do this, I like it. Please God, let this be a thing that sticks.

  3. It's great to hear all this, especially when Busch Gardens is your favorite park because of the landscaping but Six Flags St. Louis is your home park ...

I can't wait to see more pictures from this year - or better yet, visit the park for the first time in (almost) a decade.

Bummer to hear about Prowler, though. My last visit was Prowler's opening year, and it sounds like Prowler is just not the same anymore. I shouldn't have waited so long to come back.

  4. Am I the only one this whole time who didn’t know the difference? I thought Eire was kind of an odd theme for BGW.

Old-timey name for Ireland, I guess it fits with the mythological theming.

After the more modern theming they tried with Verbolten, it's nice to see them return to a more old-world charm with InvadR and now this.

Nope, I meant Erie, like Lake Erie. As in I thought "Battle for Erie" like "Battle for Lake Erie" was an odd name.

But would you look at that? I misspelled it complaining about its similar spelling. God this word makes my head hurt.

  5. Honestly, even at 4K that track would be very tough to see sticking out of that tunnel under normal circumstances. Even in one of your "cleaner" frame captures I had to look very hard to finally see it. It doesn't help that the track color blends in either.

You can defend your material all you'd like, but there's no denying that this particular stage of the construction is hopelessly boring.

To be honest, the reason I didn't do it is because 4K streamed is not the same as 4K raw. For best results, I'd need the raw, uncompressed 4K footage.

Thank you CedarFair1 for doing that for us. I for one still appreciate your efforts, regardless of how much I can see, because it shows determination. And frankly I would have no idea about this project or there would be no validity of it until the park opens if it weren't for your footage. Please, continue.

EDIT: Just checked your Instagram. Indeed, Jarmor cherry-picked that image. Every other one is pretty clear. I can finally see the tunnel for the first time.

  6. RMC has gotten their designs to look really clean lately, and they're nothing short of beautiful. The ones where the structure is painted especially. I remember when they were in my mind the ugliest rides, and now, after a combination of getting used to it and RMC becoming cleaner, they're now my favorites to look at.

It still blows my mind how they install track into the existing structure.

  7. Outlaw Run, which decided to eat my phone and give my brother sitting next to me on what was our last few minutes at the park our last day there.

I had forgotten to zip my pocket. After two days of plenty of rerides on all the rides, and I forgot to zip it on the very. last. one.

Good news is it's in the mail back to me. Bad news is I don't yet know the condition of it. Maybe my little brother broke its fall?

  8. Gotta say, I watched a night time POV of TT from CoasterFanatics and while the rest of the ride looked the same, the series of four airtime moments after the cutback where WTF insane. I guess the ride really warms up by the end of the day. You know how POVs never capture the true wildness or forces of a ride? Well, this is the first POV i can say ever did. You could see just how much the people in the train were getting tossed around like a rag doll and YOU felt like part of it. The camera perfectly captured the wildness for a minute.

I haven't been on TT myself but I can probably agree based on that POV alone that TT is holy f*ck insane at night.

  9. Why just those two coasters? There are plenty of forwards launching coasters much closer to St. Louis than those. In fact, within the United States, those two are probably some of the furthest ones away from St. Louis.

Thunderbird I hear has a good launch, and Powerkeg's launch is amazing, or there's V2 up north, and all of are much closer, for example. I understand they involve a modest bit of traveling, but my point still remains that I've seen enough of forward launches to not miss having one at my home park.

We will get to SDC some day and possibly SFGAm this Summer. We have four kids ages 2 to 20 so we do a Disney vacation every couple years. (My wife grew up in Southern California with DL annual passes so she is a Disney freak.) The nine-year-old just hit 54 inches at the end of last year, so other parks with more extreme coasters are now feasible.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

    Mike

Understandable! I'm sure your kids are making great memories on the Disney vacations. I know I did with my family. But when they come of age, SDC is a fantastic park for families and thrill seekers that really is a must visit for anyone.

  10. Oddly, the reverse spike does nothing for me feel wise, but the visual is neat. Maybe it's because there is no profiled drop for floater air. Although Mr. Freeze is all about positive G's, which I enjoy. I'm conflicted, but I've come to like the ride again, even if I liked it much better in it's original form. The bad part is that Emily doesn't care for it, so I always have a tinge of guilt when we ride it. She also doesn't care for Batman that much, despite my love for it. FML

I'm just thinking out loud, but maybe she doesn't care for strong positive G's, since she wasn't a big fan of I305, either. Hmmmm

I don't think you get much air on the spike either, but it was never really about that for me. It's all about the visual. However, I do feel that at the top of the spike, at the moment the train stalls, you get a little bit of floater air. I really like this floater air as it's almost like a perfect high-note to finish out the visual effect (as the train has reached it's maximum point), and of course because it's trilling to be a little out of your seat when you're at the top looking straight down.

I don't like positive-g's much at all, which explains I why I dislike i305 so much, but oddly I love Mr. Freeze for it's positive-gs (among other things). I suppose it's because it's such a short ride with such brief moments of extreme positive-g's that I don't ever get headaches from it.

The only thing I don't really like about Mr. Freeze is the overbank as it has gotten rough over the years, and combined with the positive g's it's pretty uncomfortable these days.

Sure, the forwards launch was great, but the view looking down from the top spike is so worth giving up the forwards launch IMO. If I want a powerful forwards launch, there are other places I can go to get that experience (even just within the state of Missouri). I can't say the same about watching yourself climb 200 ft+ face down.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like backwards launches at all, but I'm willing to sacrifice one common experience for an uncommon experience.

I agree that watching the ground fall away as you climb the spike backwards is cool. The momentary hang time, sitting in the front, staring straight down at the ground is awesome. Then for a different experience, sitting in the back, you just feel so high up when you are at the top of the spike.

But for me, launching forward stills trumps all that. We get our launching fix on Rock 'n' Rollercoaster at DHS and California Screamin' (soon to be Incredicoaster) at CA, but we don't visit those places ten times a year with the opportunity for multiple rides on most days.

I respect your opinion, but I have experienced the spike in reverse enough times that I would like to go back to the forward launch.

    Mike

  12. After completion of the new element, Timberwolf will have had it's entire course retracked by GCI, right? I hope this means it will receive Millennium Flyers if so. It'd be nice if at least one coaster in Missouri got some much-needed better trains. *cough* Boss

I understand that GCI requires Millennium Flyers to be on their tracks only and not run on other company's tracks.

That is actually not true. Lake Compounce had M&V retract Wildcat, and it runs with Millennium Flyers

Interesting. That is the first time I have heard of this happening. The ones who told me that GCI requires trains to be run on their tracks was the Director of Rides himself at SFSTL a while back. Maybe things have changed, or perhaps the track just needs to be to a certain standard/tolerance set by GCI.
