No way I was there for a band trip the same day!
-
There are only a few of these things left, I hope they don't remove another one like Big Bad Wolf. That would leave Ohio as the swinging coaster capital.
-
The one for Carowinds2015 seems to be inside banked. Similar to Leviathan's.
While, Nitro's is simply a hill with a curved drop.
]
It seems B&M are trying to vary their, lineup, what with the new giga (maybe) and the family coaster. Glad to see some happening at carowinds, they need it.
Thanks for pointing out the hill in Nitro, by the way.

No Limits representation of the first drop + turn.
Look a bit like nitro from sfgadv

Loch Ness Monster at BGW.
Or if you count Big Thunder Mtn. Railroad at DW, then that would be it.

. (I'm calling new train station btw)
Agreed. I would like them to put a new kids area there, near the BBQ restaurant. With alpengeist and griffon both close by, there should be a 3rd (small) kids area there to balance things out.
-
So I finally got to ride it. It was ok. The views were nice though! Perfect spot to observe the construction going on back by the drachen fire station. (I'm calling new train station btw)
Agree with the views, especially during Christmas Town, when it serves as an observation tower. It always has a long line, unlike Drop Zone at KD.
-
As for discount tickets, they have some coupons at the local food lions and the lines should be fine. A little wait maybe for griffon and alpie but everything else should be fine. Mach tower was actually up last week!

In answer to your questions:
1. I would wait until in the park to purchase the fast lane plus pass. There is a purchasing center near the on ride photo booth of volcano, so you could easily gauge the line and buy it after a ride on volcano, if you think the line is long. If the queue is spilling into the porch-like area in front of volcano, you should buy the pass. The FL passes usually don't sell out.
2. As for i305, they won't put you in the front row with FL+, they will probably put you near the back, if not the back row. For the rest of the FL rides, the wait usually isn't that long (with the exception of Dominator/ FOF). Flight of Fear is extremely similar to the one at KI, but it is smoother.
Hope this helps you make a decision!

Haha! I never even thought of a Wicked Twister clone. Maybe they could even do a full circuit version.
-
That is an interesting proposition, but the Hypersonic was a pretty simple coaster. Unless they put in a strata, which is very unlikely, I find that space would be hard to work with.
-
Does anyone think the divided seats on rebel yell are pretty small and tight? I noticed that they were pretty snug.
Yes, they are. They added them a couple of years ago, and they are snug, but I like them in the turnaround as it prevents you from sliding around. I have a feeling it has to do eighth PTC Trains.
The seats on Grizzly and Hurler seem tighter to me.
The Hurler needs them, as I bounce around when I ride it. But yes, I found that many seats on KD's coasters are tighter than usual.

The Centurion trademark has been suspended because another company already owns the trademark. So for 2015 at the least, Centurion is off the table as a name.
Oh, that's right. My bad. But still, a dark WMG style ride could fill in the small footprint left by Shockwave, and it would get rid of a bad coaster.
-
Is I305 the only coaster with a water spraying system?
BSC at Wonderland uses water to cool down the fins. I'm not sure if the other clones do the same.
Huh. I will have to look for that next time I'm at KD. I see why, I wonder if all Premier launched coasters have it. FOF at Kings Island certainly does
-
Personally, if I were Cedar Fair, I would take down Shockwave and put a family-style dark ride -aka- centurion there. Rougarou just doesn't fit in with the rest of the candy apple grove thing. But rougarou is a strong possibility.
-
A Wonder mountain's guardian style ride would also give the park a coaster-style dark ride. It's a no-brainer! KD should, and will, get a WMG dark ride. It would also fill the gap left in the lineup by Grizzly. The only problem is that KD may be nostalgic with Grizzly, as they will be going through their 2nd 40th anniversary.
-
I would imagine all Intamin strata's and giga's would use water sprayers to cool down the wheels.
-
Great TR - I think fireworks are similar at all Cedar Fair parks, though. Kings Dominion's looked very similar.
-
Dale the ride op is a very nice gentleman and i see him every time i visit. He is a credit to KD and great with the riders. Watching riders come back from a ride is amusing. The ride OP says "How was your ride?" and everyone is silent and looks disoriented. AWESOME!
Dale is probably the best ride op I have ever had. He does a routine during long lines where he tells jokes. He's awesome!

Sure! Personally I think wave pools are gross the lines were actually worse on a random Wednesday than Memorial Day. So it's hard to really put a judgement on lengths. But Saturdays are usually consistent
-
IMO, fast pass is only worth it if you plan on riding the major rides all day on a Saturday, busy day, etc. if it's a Wednesday, crowds should be manageable, if not light all day.
I305- 30 min. Max
Dominator- depends don't ride mid day
Volcano- long all day , very long in evening
Rebel Yell- 1 cycle wait, usually
Shockwave, ricochet- they can get long, be careful
All other rides (even flats) wait time should max at around 20 min. per ride.
Are you doing the water park, too?
That will take at least 2 hrs. If all slides are up, and not including wave pool.
-
I agree with the wait times. And I could see a newly trademarked "rougarou" darkride coming to replace the old animal, grizzly.

It's time for a (relatively small) trip report of Kings Dominion! We went on the evening of July 4th to ride a couple of rides and see the fireworks. The lines were actually relatively short for one of the major days of the year. I think it was due to the hurricane that was supposed to come but ended up blowing away from us. Basically, there we got three rides on two coasters, all at night:
Intimidator 305 (1): one of the best night rides out there, I found it was even more intense than the day, but I did not get much of a blackout sensation this time.
Grizzly (2): I LOVED Grizzly at night! Normally, it is a sub-par, poorly built coaster. But man does it come alive at night! You cannot see a thing.
Anyway, there was a 45 minute line for i305 and a 5 minute wait and then a walk on for Grizzly. What a great experience with lines! Now it's time for the photos! *Sidenote- I added the pics of dominator from different days, so the sky may look different.
Although we didn't ride it this time, I have ridden it before and it is one of the best floorless coasters out there.

And with that, our trip report comes to a close. Thanks for viewing!
Dominator's beautiful loop.
Now,it was time for my #1 steel coaster, Intimidator 305.
The twists and turns from i305!
What's that peeking over the horizon? Is it a great, world class coaster? No, it's just Anaconda.
While we're distracted, it's Volcano! A top coaster in the park! It's one great ride!
Back to Intimidator, or rather, its break run.
Nerd shot! The water had to spray the wheels to cool it down. Seriously, this coaster is amazing!
Intamin drop tower! Every major park SHOULD have one! Sorry for the blurriness.
I am a big fan of KD getting revamped, it really improved the park.
Ferris wheel! From Geauga Lake.
I love these things! It's hard to tell, but it is one of those grass tunnels that sprays mist.
Grizzly! Now with a non-existent line!
This reminds me of the Beast, minus the dude on the left.
Screamin' Eagles!
I was very impressed with the light show!
Dominator, stop photo bombing!
Happy first 40th birthday, Kings Dominion!
Time for fireworks!

Although they are both unique style coasters, YOLOcoaster is the better ride, even though Premier isn't my favorite manufacturer. Also, there are multiple wing riders, and Full Throttle has some unique elements specific to it.
