The MOST addicting games on the planet
Darien Laker replied to BlackHole2005's topic in Random, Random, Random
Any Mario game (Especially Super Mario Bros. 3). Any Sims or RCT game. Goldeneye for N64. When I was a kid, I really liked Pokémon, but I can't stand those now. -
^Aren't there like over 10 Supermans? Anyway about my rant. I have to re-schedule my trip to Cedar Point! Argh! We had it all set up, I had the days off from work....now my cousin is coming to town. She is having a coming home party, which we planned anyway, but now it has been moved a few days later because she wants to go site-seeing. I love my cousin, but boy it sure does suck to have to change all my days off, and our hotel reservations, etc.

Oldest Coaster You've Ridden
Darien Laker replied to MSLSM's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
SFA's Wild One is by far my oldest. Next would probably be the Hershey Comet. -
Hmm...I can think of a few. I'd like to go back to try Drachen Fire. I'm sure there were perfectly logical reasons for removing it, but I still would love to have ridden it for myself....just to see what all the fuss was/is about. I'd like to see Chippewa Lake Park and Idora Park too, in action. I'd really like to try Old Chicago too. I'm sure by today's standards, these parks/rides would be blah....but i'd still like to try.

They're not going to add something they don't need, especially something as expensive as a B&M coaster. In 2005, PCW beat out every single seasonal park in North America for attendance, including SFGAdv (B&M City). A B&M would be nice, but they seem to be able to get away with the Arrow/Vekoma/Togo/Zamperla-ish line-up just fine.

Ever had a black out on a coaster?
Darien Laker replied to Dark Vampire's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Vekoma Boomerangs make me grey out for a moment. Especially going through the loop backwards. Arrow vertical loops can do it do, but not the way those Boomerangs do. -
I knew TGE was safe from the moment I heard about Shapiro's new plan. It's like the perfect "Shapiro" park. I had good feeling about all of those, though I am slightly suprised to not see GAdv on there, which seems to be on the right track.

What is your least favorite inversion?
Darien Laker replied to Milkchan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Arrow/Vekoma elements with two inversions are usually a safe bet for pain. (Cobra Rolls, Rollovers, Batwings, etc). -
When i'm with other coaster people, like that I met up with from a forum, i'll usually just talk to them and we'll just go on and on about coasters.... When i'm with non-coaster people, usually I will talk to other people in line, and I learned the hard way to NOT make myself sound like an enthusiast. Basically, I'll never use words like "Vekoma" or "MCBR" while in line with someone I don't know.

Photo TR: SFGAm 7/2
Darien Laker replied to FRD714's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wonder, does Demon close in all rain? It seems like that happened to me a few years back, and there wasn't thunder or anything. -
As far as Old Arrow loopers and Vekoma Boomerangs, those two are great. Viper has only one spot of headbanging, the rest is like new. I can't believe the thing is almost 25 years old, it's such a good coaster. It's not that much rougher than Superman, but it is a much more mild ride. Boomerang: Coast to Coaster is the smoothest coaster in the park. No headbanging what-so-ever, and very comfortable modern trains. May not be as good as Superman, but yes, it IS smoother. Predator really does suck....yeah. Mind Eraser too.

Back to Sandusky - August 7-10
Darien Laker replied to SpartanTS's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Well, i'll be there the 6th and 7th, maybe I can meet up with you one of those days. -
It's really sad, S:ROS's rattle is getting worse and worse. I first noticed it a few years back and my friends would tell me I was crazy, now they can agree with me. That's going to get brutal in a few years, I bet people will come off with bruised ankles thanks to those restraints. And yeah, Viper's got one of those transitions where you can tell just by looking at it that it will jerk you to the side quite a bit. It's still a good ride, but that bend (more of a bend than a turn) after the loop is pretty annoying, especially with those "head rests" that go halfway down your back.

Why Do Some Coasters Get Trashed?
Darien Laker replied to EuroTre's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Size can be a factor. I've noticed shorter people get banged around more on Arrow Loopers, while for tall people, it's more of an issue with shoulder's fitting in the restraints. -
My first woodie was the Comet at Hersheypark. I loved that ride so much.

I've been to Marineland and PCW. Marineland has Dragon Mountain, which is my first coaster. It's a good Arrow Looper, and the park is full of shows and other entertainment, but it's not a coaster park. PCW actually impressed me. I loved the Vortex, it was my favorite ride there. I must have caught it on some good days, but who knows. Dragon Fire, though very plain and tame, was smooth and comfortable for an Arrow looper. The wood coasters, while not the greatest, weren't horrible either.

Name That Park!!
Darien Laker replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Haha I swear I guessed it before I saw that. Someone else post a pic though, I don't have any that wouldn't give away the park they're in. -
I don't think they're allowed to sell SFKK. I'm not sure exactly what's up with that, but I don't think they own the land. They pretty much won't get anything out of closing that park, other than a bunch of rides that they'll have to have scrapped or pay to have relocated. Although I suppose they could sell some of the rides, it's still not worth it if they don't own the land.

Darien Laker replied to CoasterExpert13's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll guess PKI^^ I might be wrong, but that looks a lot like Vortex. -
^^I agree that while it would be sad for some people to lose their home park, selling SFMM would be a great idea. Whether it stays open or not, it would be good for Six Flags to unload it and make A LOT of money off the park/land, rather than dump money which they don't have into trying to make it "fit in" as a SF park. I'm assuming since SFDL already basically is a semi-decent family park, they're interested in selling it because of Buffalo's declining population. I highly doubt it would sell well as just worthless land, and they're not going to make any money off of it unless it's sold as a park with the rides. It would probably cost more to remove the rides than they would make on that land alone. I know a lot of people seem to think they're "crazy for considering selling SFMM" and it would be "smart to sell SFDL and SFEG because nobody likes them", but I don't think it's got anything to do with that. I do think SFEG is done for, but it's more of a situation like SFMM with the land value being a huge factor.
