  1. Has anyone here ever done the meal plan with the season pass? I'm debating getting it next year if it seems feasible enough.

How much does it cost, and do you think it's worth it for someone who visits approximately 10 times or more a year?

The meal plan costs the same price as a season pass, so as the price of the season pass goes up throughout the season, so does the price of the meal plan (typically $64.99 in May, $69.99 in June, and $74.99 July - September). If you plan on coming 7-8 times and eating a meal in the park each time, the meal plan will definitely pay for itself if you figure a cost of around $10 a meal.

  2. When doing my Texas Trip, I did a whole day at Schlitterbahn, which was one of my favorite days, and I do not regret for a single second doing the water park at Movieland Studios, which has some of the craziest water slides ever.

The slide looks like it would be fun and have some good air time for a water slide, but I imagine there would be a number of injuries on it each season as well!

  3. ^ Not to get DarienLakers hopes up, but I've been thinking about the future of the water park as well. They have added two different water attractions back to back, a third one wouldn't surprise me. What I would wonder, however is where they would put it. My mind immediately heads over to the big plot of land in the front of the park. It was once home to two water attractions, what are the chances that they'd put something water themed there again? I mean, they left the bridge there! Yes, it was probably for aesthetic instead of function, but still, the ambiguity of the future of that piece of land is very intriguing!

Unless they add two attractions again next season like they did in 2015, I think next years additions will be a dry ride instead of another year of just a water ride. That way it will likely please the most people as they can say something like: last year we took care of adding a new ride in the waterpark, so this year we wanted to make an addition for our guests who prefer dry rides.

If they did two additions again (which I don't think they will if they are purchasing a second train for ROS), then I think we would see one dry park and one water park addition again like 2015 as that makes the most sense to me.

  4. Pretty simple question, but I think a good one - do you do water parks? I know of many people who like amusement parks but only really do the dry rides. Of course, I know some people who are opposite and prefer the water rides over dry rides. Do you fall into either of these categories, or do you do both?

I'm not a big water park person, but I will ride wet rides like log flumes. I have occasionally gone on some water park rides, but they never take up the majority of my visit. I usually can't be bothered with the hassle of getting a locker, changed into swim trunks, and then changing back later, unless there is a water park ride at that park which I am really interested in trying out.

  5. Because of college it has been a while since I have posted on this thread. With that being said I have a list of questions that hopefully can be answered.

    - How is the repaint of Mind Eraser going?

    - Have parts arrived for Ride Of Steel's new train?

    - Have parts arrived for Ripcurl?

    - Any new rumors lately?

    1. I know most of the supports were finished by the end of last season. Not sure if the track was started or not as I forgot to look.

    2. Yes, as confirmed by the pictures from Facebook.

    3. Not sure, but I do know the old water park gate where Ripcurl is supposed to go has been taken down.

The new trains look awesome and I agree with bluestreak on the retheme.

  6. I wonder if Darien Lake is just going to use the midway gazebo for shows this year and leave the Grand Theater and the "former" Galaxy Theater SBNO?

What? In what world would that make sense to leave both theaters SBNO? I don't see that happening. The galaxy will probably be SBNO again but surely the Grande will still have shows. Plus there was a post on Facebook a few weeks back saying they were holding auditions for a Silvertree Production show.

  7. I will admit that I do not know a ton about roller coasters, but I guess I am not sure why ROS cannot run two trains next year? Don't get me wrong, one tran will definitely ride smoother than the other, but the GP probably would not notice.

Plus, didn't Doug say that this was being done to be able to return ROS to two train operations? Personally, I am expecting ROS to run two trains next year with Motocoaster in 2017. I would say ME would be next, but ridership is so low that one train still does not create major waits. Plus I think the park has the majority of parts needed for ME's second train, so just a few parts could make a new train.

No, because the two trains are not exactly the same. From my understanding it would cause faults and other problems because the trains would run at slightly different speeds. The sensors are really sensitive to that type of thing.

  8. ^Its been stated countless times in this thread that Ride of Steel will be one train this season. You've been involved in said discussions numerous times. I don't know what's up in the air about it anymore.

Why one train operations again, is Darien Lake too cheap to buy two trains for Ride of Steel?

You are acting like this is a surprise when its been mentioned several times before in this thread.

The reason for just 1 train is likely because the money they have for improvements this year is already spent with the new ride and the train. The water slide is costing about $2.88 million and I think I saw somewhere that new Intamin trains are around $200k (could someone confirm the typical cost?)

If my numbers are correct, once you count the tax incentives the park received from Genesee County, that comes out to about $3 million this year. Last year the two projects totaled around $2.5 million, so the figures certainly make sense on why it is just one train this year. Its not about being "cheap", its about spending what they can based on revenue.

Personally, I would say that it is a good sign that the money for new additions appears to be increasing. Should mean we will continue to see great additions over the next few years.

  9. ^ I'm actually leaving Darien next week for a different opportunity. Trying to button up some other priority projects before my last day, which is why we've been quiet on social.

Stay tuned though! I think this summer is going to be another step in the right direction for Darien Lake.

So who is going to fill Doug's spot? Will this thread recieve an equivalent in the near future?

The park is currently accepting applications for the position.

Several other full time positions are open too.

  10. I've personally never ridden a slide like this one whether it be a mat or body slide, but I also rarely go on waterpark attractions.

I don't see premier abandoning the dry side of the park. Based on what we've heard already they did put money up for that side in terms of the new train and more two train ops. I would assume that since they started repainting Mind Eraser last year that they will continue to move forward with that on other attractions as well. All these moves are pretty expensive, and probably sucked up most of the capital budget used on the dry side of the park.

  11. I just hope that if Darien Lake is putting a ProSlide Kraken Racer slide that it doesn't go in Hook's Lagoon's spot.

    I doubt it.

Anyways, I just looked into the ride and it looks pretty awesome. It's capacity is high, which I think is great. Some of the lines in the water park get really long, especially with cuda falls not there anymore. If they did add this ride I think it would really help reduce that problem.

  12. Got my season pass renewal email... souvenir cup refills are $1.25 next year and the pass is $64.99, $59.99 last year.

Still pretty cheap to me, so the is hardly necessary in my opinion. Two hours down the road in a smaller park they sold them at $89.99 in 2015 and there were hardly any significant complaints. If my inside knowledge is correct, that price will increase in 2016 as well. Darien Lake has great value for an enthusiast with a Season Pass as I'm sure an enthusiast would use the pass 5+ times for a price less than two visits at full price.

It was a somewhat sarcastic . Although as a family of four its costing me $80 more this year (youngest didnt need on this year)

I'm not surprised by the increase considering NYS minimum wage goes up to $9.00 at the end of this year.
