It's pretty minor news, but Harry over at GreatAdventureHistory is able to confirm the Liberty Square Gazebo, a longtime park structure, is being removed this offseason with a new seating pavilion next to Johnny Rockets coming in its place. It's held a lot of shows over the years but it's honestly outlived its purpose at this point and removing it is the right call.

What I appreciate is the park highlighting each of the little additions / improvements they're planning on implementing. Oftentimes in the past, these would be just done in the background with very little attention or promotion, leading to them getting overlooked by most people.

Batman at SFGAdv is being painted, too.

I was gonna suggest Shenandoah if you enjoy caves and natural wonders like that. Really beautiful.

Never understood the restraint thing, either. Even at my skinniest, with plenty of room to spare anytime I rode Possessed, I wasn't even close when I tried to ride Wicked Twister. I'm sure it was a good ride to some, but after that it could die in a fire for all I cared.

Should I see the original movie or read the book before I watch it in order to really appreciate it, or does it stand well enough on its own? Thought about putting it on over the weekend since its on HBO Max.

Cool map, but I think it's missing a couple key parks, like Worlds of Fun.

^ Is that really the road you wanna walk down with your thread? Just feels like dangerous, troublesome waters...

It wasn't gone right away, it sat dormant after new owners decided to close off the dry side of the park in 2012. It was then sold in 2013 to Wonderla in India.

My knees are in rough shape at this point and crack every time I stand up, but RailBlazer didn't bother me one bit after several re-rides. I know it's not JDC, but it's similar enough where I have to believe it's a personal / body type issue, rather than the seats themselves.

It probably had to do with the change in management right after the '05 season. Remember, El Toro was almost cancelled by the new management team. Only reason why we have it was because they were already too far along in the process to reverse course.

Here's an article on the incident:
QuoteA women was injured Sunday at Six Flags Great Adventure after entering a restricted area of the theme park and slipping on a rooftop, a spokesperson for Six Flags said.
The incident happened around 7 p.m. in a fenced off area between the Kingda Ka roller coaster and the Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom ride, both of which were temporarily shut down while the issue was addressed.
"While climbing onto the roof of a building in the restricted area, the guest slipped and injured her leg," spokesperson Kristin Fitzgerald said. "The guest was transported to a local hospital."
It was not clear on Monday whether the woman, who was not identified, will face charges for climbing the fence and trespassing in the restricted area. It's also unknown what the women was attempting to do by entering the area between the rides.
Six Flags has had a string of incidents with rides this summer. Two people were hospitalized in June after the park's log flume ride malfunctioned and the El Toro roller coaster was shut down following a partial derailment in July, though no injuries were suffered.
Six Flags also temporarily shut down The Joker and Nitro rides in July after one guest reported a head injury and a second guest expressed concern that a lap bar was not functioning properly.
The theme park has been working with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to ensure that all of its rides meet safety standards and all problems are addressed before rides are reopened.
Fitzgerald said the area the woman entered on Sunday night was "clearly marked restricted," but didn't offer more details.
"We are proud of our public safety team, who risked their own safety to serve our guest," Fitzgerald said.

^ I imagine that Sesame Place will be in the same boat for me in the next few years for the same reason.

That's cute! Easy advertising, too! Don't know why we don't see things like that more often.

Local parks? Pretty much never.
Parks I'm traveling to and only have a day or two at? Abso-f*ckin-lutely.
Pretty much this, though occasionally I won't. I didn't when I visited my sister in SF two years ago and we swung by SFDK and CGA for a few hours mostly because I knew going in both parks were gonna be pretty dead and there were only a couple rides I wanted to get multiple rides on (Joker / Railblazer). When Rikki and I did two weeks through the Netherlands and UK, I bought fast passes for every park we went to that sold them.

Boy does that look sharp! Love that color combo.

I know it's old news at this point, but I still love how the supports are painted to look like bamboo rather than some generic solid color. Really helps the aesthetics.

I wonder if it's a body type / height thing, like maybe if you're smaller in frame or something. I remember reading similar complaints about Raptors when they first opened, so I was anticipating a similar experience when I rode Railblazer for myself but ended up not having any issues. Haven't been on JDC yet, though.

If there are any satellite image nerds out there like me, Google Maps updated the aerials for Great Adventure. Looks to be like early spring 2021 - park is open, JDC is complete, but the landscaping isn't touched yet.
EDIT: Also interesting to see just how big the Adventure Crossing complex is truly going to be based off of the full clearing size. I know some construction has also started since these images were taken. Definitely going to be a significant change for the area, a much different dynamic from when I lived just down the road from the place.

Your memory and ability to recall as much detail as you do always amazes me. I can barely remember what I did yesterday!
Can't wait to see the rest!! Eager to see your opinion of nighttime Beast rides.

Just to build off of what Kim said above, I'm going to link to a post I made a while back on the subject. The comments are pre-COVID, but it's still speaks to her points:
On 6/3/2018 at 3:15 PM, michaellynn4 said:There are also some very interesting statistics on a variety of contributing factors to the decline of the "summer job", as it's not necessarily just an increase in laziness. From the article:
QuoteWhy did American teens stop trying to get summer jobs? One typical answer is: They’re just kids, and kids are getting lazier.
One can rule out that hypothesis pretty quickly. The number of teens in the workforce has collapsed since 2000, as the graph below shows. But the share of NEETs—young people who are “Neither in Education, Employment, or Training”—has been extraordinarily steady. In fact, it has not budged more than 0.1 percentage point since the late 1990s. Just 7 percent of American teens are NEETs, which is lower than France and about the same as the mean of all advanced economies in the OECD. The supposed laziness of American teenagers is unchanging and, literally, average.
Short answer: more and more teenagers are focusing on their education, including an overall increase in college enrollment and an increase in students taking summer classes. As someone previously stated, the days of a bachelor's degree being enough to stand out in a job market are long gone (hell, I'm kicking myself for going straight to grad school and getting a generic MBA instead of waiting and choosing a more specific masters degree in my field to help my resume stand out more).
Are there lazy kids out there? Absolutely, but that’s no new thing - I worked with plenty of other teenagers growing up who had questionable work ethic. It’s important to avoid the rose-tinted glasses when discussing this subject. I myself am one of those middle-class adults who tends to wax nostalgic about my summer job experience and used to have pretty strong opinions on "making sure my kids grow up right, know the value of a dollar, understand the meaning of hard work, blah blah BS BS yadda yadda". However, facts and statistics don't lie, and, once my kids are old enough, I'll need to consider what the culture, education environment, and job markets are like in order to figure out what's really best for their future before I choose to “gift” them working papers on their 14th birthday like my mom did to me.
In fact, recent statistics are showing that there may be a reversal of that trend, with many teenagers opting for summer employment again. Teenage employment is currently at its lowest rate since 1953. Again, as with my post from a few years ago, there'll always be a group of kids one can point to in order to help support whatever pre-conceived notions we already have about "kids be lazy, man". Gotta look at the macro level, though.

These river rapid rides ran like 20 something years without issues and now I feel like its a yearly thing
Don't forget about the accident at Dreamworld from a few years ago. Spooked the industry a bit then, too; it caused Canobie Lake Park to abandon its plans for their own rapids ride.
Awful news, here's hoping the other kid in critical condition is able to pull through.
Where should I go if I have 3-4 hours to go to a theme park in San Antonio?

A couple years ago I was in practically the exact same boat - went to SA for work, hotel was right by Sea World, and needed to use Uber/Lyft. Only difference was I had a full day Saturday so I was able to squeeze both parks in. I agree with Bert - stick to Sea World. SFFT was fantastic but it's 15-20 minutes away (depending on traffic, which can be brutal at times in SA), and I needed a larger time window to enjoy it, and that was pre-Wonder Woman (I missed its opening weekend by one week - grr) and with re-rides on only Iron Rattler.
I was able to use Lyft to Sea World with no issues (they dropped me off practically right by the park entrance in the parking lot and managed to fit everything with multiple re-rides on my favorites into a roughly 3-4 hour window (pre-Sting Ray, but should still be doable). Follow Bert's advice to get the Quick Queue so you can make the most of the visit. You'll have a blast!
