Went in August 2018 and that's how the the Fastpass lines worked for me, as well. They really helped make sure we could ride everything we wanted to and grab multiple re-rides on stuff we wanted. It was especially effective on Swarm - anytime we booked it we practically walked straight onto the ride.

Well... the title of this thread about a tsunami at San Marcos Island in Mexico had me thinking this was a much bigger deal than it was. Anyone else?
-
^^ That's good to know. To be honest, I've never heard of them closing the secondary entrance; there really isn't a valid reason to unless the park itself is closed.
-
Oh man, I didn't realize another one of these existed out there. Ugh, I'm torn between wanting to hate-ride this for nostalgia's sake and wishing for another natural disaster to come through and spare people from riding this one, as well.

It varies depending on when sunset is.

Those are some excellent photos!!

I said "almost" every day and 40 degrees is generally just a startup temperature for the parks that even care (see: Dollywood). Yes, I was there that day 4 1/2 years ago when Fury opened 2 hours late.
Anyway I give up. I'll be riding Nitro in the snow if anyone needs me.

To be a bit fair to Six Flags, buying up all of the parks back in the 90s/early 2000s wasn't the only contributing factor towards bankruptcy, but also the HUGE capital investments the company made into each park. Think about how many huge coasters Six Flags parks added between 1999 - 2003, not to mention all of the SLCs, Boomerangs, and family coasters that sprang up as well. Park operations have been a lot more disciplined with their capex approach in recent years.
That said, it'll be interesting to see how this pans out. There's a big opportunity for some good and a lot of bad. Definitely continues the trend of big companies becoming bigger. Reminds me of Parks & Rec:

^ Interesting. At first glance, I also assumed the "yellow" track was just some of the unpainted orange reflecting in the sunlight, but now that you mention it, it does seem as if there's now true yellow track. That would look really cool!

Awww, that's sweet. Gold star, Six Flags!

I swear it feels like it was just yesterday when I heard the news that Disney planned on adding the Skyliner. LOVE what I'm seeing, especially how each station seems to have its own unique "feel". Such a fantastic transport option!
Man, I really need to get back to Disney. It's been over 15 years since my last trip (over 25 years for Epcot and Hollywood Studios), and Rikki's never been (well, she technically was there while in utero lol). I was originally planning on a couple mini-trips next year to visit some Cedar Fair parks I haven't been to in a while as our last "park" trips before trying for a kid; maybe I scrap that and just do an all out Disney trip instead.

Bill beat me to the photos. In addition to the BAFF, they had the secondary entrance to the park (for those looking to enter from 537 eastbound) closed off, so anyone looking to get into the park from that direction had to drive past and turn around. You think the jughandles suck on a normal day?

Definitely seems like it was a late-season decision. I get that nostalgia is a thing, but if us SFGAdv can admit that Rolling Thunder and GASM were hot garbage, then you can do the same for Vortex, too.
Which it is.
Hot garbage.

Gotta say man, your stamina for all these park visits on one trip is impressive. I'm at a point where I get burnt out after just a couple. Glad you had a blast!
Also, yay to Canobie getting a pass! I really enjoyed my visit there a few years back. Here's hoping they see positive results from it.

The cliche thing may be to poke fun at Six Flags operations, but here's an instance where Security's actions, coupled with law enforcement at the scene, may have prevented something really awful:
HOLMDEL, NJ -- When Six Flags Great Adventure (SFGA) in Jackson tells you they are one of the safest parks in the USA, they now have a great example to back that claim up.A real life Fright Fest was averted when quick thinking security at SFGA and their partners at Jackson Police Department coordinated to secure an irrational subject who had enough weaponry for a mass murder.
This Goosebumps story was virtually ripped off the screen this week as a potential killer was taken off the streets. According to a news release from the Jackson Police Department, at approximately the incident began at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Thursday when, while working a security detail assignment at SFGA, Sgt. Michael Kelly and Officer Andy Falzarano were alerted by SFGA security to their concerns about Jonathan Fruchter, 38. Fruchter, the report said, was at the employee training center after reportedly coming to the park seeking a job. The suspect, officials allege, was acting irrationally and asking questions about the park’s security protocols.
The officers responded to the location and were advised that the man had been previously escorted out of the park due to his behavior but had returned and began to allegedly harass employees because he had not been hired.
The officers spoke with the subject and, through their investigation, learned that he possessed a handgun in his vehicle parked in the SFGA parking lot. As the investigation progressed, the officers searched the vehicle and recovered:
- a Glock 9mm handgun in a holster,
- three loaded 15 round magazines for the gun,
- several knives, a SOG machete, and
- a SOG tactical tomahawk, several knives, handcuffs and a hat with the NYPD logo on it.
The subject was then placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. Members of the department’s Detective Bureau then assisted with the investigation and later searched the subject’s residence in Allentown. The search resulted in the seizure of:
- an AR-15 rifle,
- several 30 round magazines for the rifle, and
- a Sig Sauer 40 caliber handgun and ammunition.
Fruchter was charged with unlawful possession of weapons, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess weapons, possession of magazines capable of holding in excess of 10 rounds and possession of handcuffs.

Oh yea, I remember this trip from your Twitter feed! Great to see photos from it again!
I loved seeing this sign. I wish a version of it could get hung up in my office building. The noise pollution in some corners is off the charts!

Even though this park has been within a 10 minute drive for me the last 6 years or so, I could never bring myself up to actually going there knowing its reputation. TBH, there are much better uses for that land.
-
Great Adventure is my home park, and though I do think it had some really scenic areas, Fiesta Texas blows it out of the water. Fiesta Texas may not be perfect, but the quarry setting, Rockville, Crackaxle Canyon, and the front section of the park are all gorgeous. Never seen anything like that at a Six Flags park.
-
Oh man, that's crazy! Glad that you ended up seeing the positive in it all. That said, if I ever manage to get Rikki locked inside a random kiddie park in search of some kiddie credit, I'm pretty sure divorce papers wouldn't be much further behind.

The park is starting to do some beautifcation projects. The Batman logo on the B:tR sign and the Movietown bathroom have each been painted (the logo looks especially nice), and Nitro's exit ramps are about 50% repainted.
Here's the logo (courtesy of GAH):

For some reason I expected the entrance to be farther back and not up next to Congo Rapids' entrance and Nitro's exit.
That little nub of pathway from Nitro's entrance back to Congo Rapids is going to be insane.

Yea, this is one of those rare situations where it sounds as if Six Flags has a much better operations strategy. Railblazer is equipped with the standard gates for each row, with an employee at the station entrance directing people to each row. However, they only fill up enough for one train at a time, and the trains come to a full stop in the station. Even with the attendants moving at a steady pace, it was difficult for them to get a train dispatched without the other train sitting behind it for several seconds, so I can imagine three-train operations involves a lot of stacking.
Hopefully Six Flags ports over their operations procedure from Fiesta Texas.

I've only been on five (one being Railblazer, which I feel I need to keep in its own category for being so unique compared to the other four). I really liked all of them, but if I had to rank them, I'd probably go with the following
Lightning Rod - The downtime certainly hurts this ride, but that quadruple down is one of the best endings to a coaster I've been on.
Joker- Only was able to ride this twice on my trip last month because it kept going down throughout the day (nearly every 8-10 dispatches, it seemed), but I really liked this layout. Nice twisty layout with enough speed to make the airtime more noticeable.
Iron Rattler - Elissa raises a good point, and it's causing me to look at this coaster a bit differently. I think the beginning and ending are a lot of fun, but I agree, that middle section the top of the quarry just isn't interesting enough.
Wicked Cyclone - The layout is fun, but it feels as if the design was intended for the speed to be just a little bit faster throughout. It meanders a bit too much for me.
---
Railblazer - WOW, is this coaster an experience! To me, the airtime is intense, both in the front AND the back (I think I prefer the front, as it seems to launch you skyward over each of its hills). Makes me that much more excited to have Jersey Devil at my home park next year!!

What I think she's referring to is the fact that none of the 2020 additions are themed to Cyborg.
