1. Looks fun. Standard GCI but that's a quite fine thing. Seems fast, lots of air pops, great pacing and flow. Oh and the marketing has got me....I wanna know whats in the damn shed
2. Just bought NL:2, had NL a few years back and got sorta kinda decent, excited to give 2 a try. Quick question: Are the packs from No Limits 1 included in this game, (I see some rides) if not, are they available anywhere? There were some really great coasters I'd love to have again
3. I only got one ride ever, but it really was something. That launch was one of the most flat out intense things I've personally felt. Whole ride was, a short, weird burst of intensity. I do miss it, I'd love to experience that 0-80 in 1.8 seconds again but the wait times were a nightmare and someone had a good point, it was quite an eye sore and in all reality probably a subpar ride overall. The launch was insane though, felt less like movement to me more like a "you're here, then you're there" on the flip of a switch
4. Explosions in the Sky in Tallahassee, (nothing ever comes here, especially bands I like)
5. Got an "A" on my last class, and thus far am on track for another, which will wrap up my first year of grad school on a good note, I'm really getting my footing after some struggles at first. I have rediscovered coasters after a 2 year hiatus, the happiest news of all
6. 1: Batman the Ride (yes) 2: Great Bear 3: Raptor 4: Talon 5: Dueling Dragons (lumping them as 1 to cheat!) I have not been on Montu, Afterburn and I don't expect I'll ever try Katun or Nemesis so I know I'm missing some that would probably bump these. Alpengeist, fun ride but meh it seemed a bit forceless, shame because that's something I love about B&M inverts. BtR just so damn forceful and intense. Great Bear, really interesting ride and nice blend. Raptor great but a bit "rough" for lack of a better word and sometimes it left me uninspired. Talon great ride I rarely hear about. Dueling Dragons as it was at the time, such a cool and unique ride then
7. 3.5 hours for Kingda Ka. It was the 2nd or 3rd day it was open, we didn't go to school, ran to the ride at gate opening and got there pretty quick. Honestly wait was 30 minutes and were the 2nd next in line when it broke down down. Line was basically to Philly by that point, no coming back later so we stuck it out. Was still worth it honestly even though it's not one of my favs. Was actually fun as an experience, (thrill of something new, the people, the story) but obviously won't ever do that again. Longest non break down: 3 hours for El Toro. It was fright fest, everything jammed, too early to go home so stuck it out. Great ride of course but would not do again. Longest "normal day" line: Dont recall exactly, pretty sure 2 hours for MForce. Some slow ones were Batman and Robin the Chiller (a very small line could be 30-45 mins), agonizingly slow. The Superman flying coaster(s). I would honestly go to that one first, then El Toro (or KK if the person wanted) and etc because that line would be hours otherwise and ride isnt worth it. That thing moved like a snail. Hypersonic XLC I recall being a nightmare because it had like 8 person trains and I think was going one at a time + popular ride. That one may have also cracked 2 hours, over 1.5 for sure.
8. This is surely no biggie here, but the populace loves it: Volcano. All 3 times I've been to KD its underwhelming. Even when I got on with ERT and thus did 3 in a row with no wait, eh. Alpengeist. OK been a while (2001) but again I found it a bit underwhelming. This one may hurt but it was simply my personal experience and I think weather may have caused it. I had a great time on Boulder Dash, but I was expecting #1 caliber material from all the massive hype, and it was simply a fun ride that had a bit less air than I expected. Was also like 57 degrees and drizzly, been told cold and rainy makes it run worse. I'd absolutely wanna try again. On that note: Bizarro at SFNE. This was a case of "too late" for me. Ever since it opened I've heard how it's #1 material and I just never made it up there. When I finally did, have been on Skyrush, I305, Kingda Ka, El Toro. It was great but I think simply wasn't quite up to par with more modern rides, and having experienced those first... Overrated of course =/= bad as both those are in my top 10
9. Certain: Busch Gardens Tampa (1st time) Hopefully SF:MM (for the 2nd time) and Knotts (for the first) If so, I'd almost certainly do SF: DK and Santa Cruz Boardwalk. Also hopeful but not sure if I will find the time for a non vaca length trip: SF over Georgia Carowinds
10. Yeah, I can't imagine what VR does to lines. It's a travesty if they dont do single rider.
11. Don't have a problem with it, and I have done it once or twice, but I prefer with people. At the very least because if you get caught in even a somewhat long line it sucks. I went to SF:NE and was able to just ride the hell out of everything for a few hours, but after lunch there were lines for everything and...it sapped my energy. I went home. I got all I needed so no problem but I'd have preferred to stay longer. I guess with a fast pass this would not be an issue. I used to be opposed but as I get older by the year I'll probably cave lol That's mostly it for me, if I'm going solo I wanna basically do as much as possible, and be "in and out". Luckily TPR are good people and even going to places alone, I know I'll meet people or at the very least know there'll always be people of the same group around to kinda hang around with. This place is great for the person who likes rides more (or more passionately) than friends and wants to travel but is also shy
12. D'oh! My brain really has become a pile of mush (full time work and grad school). Well that's just straight up In that case, never mind. And I'll see ya guys at the WCB for the first time in years
13. It's a place I'd like to check out, likely as part of a trip to Sea World. Mako looks pretty fun and not been there in ages. Since I'm in FL now I at least am much closer to Orlando! The GF is always taking trips to see college friends in St Pete, can finally stop at BGT as well and ride Sheikra (and all the others I missed) when she's spending a day. Been a while man, how are ya?
14. New coaster looks cool, and I've not been to BGW since 99 (holy hell). On a road trip up home may have to stop here along the way!
15. Hey I see the WCB is sold out (my fault for waiting and not pulling the trigger earlier then figuring out time off) anyone know if its possible to get on a "wait list" in case people drop out/if anything like that has ever happened? Otherwise, I may just go out on my own and meet some of ya there, because I plan to get out to CA again this year hell or high water
16. Here is May's Schedule: Notice that they are only open Fri-Sun, with a couple Thursdays in the middle and of course Memorial Day (when daily operation starts). Memorial Day would obviously be the busiest day the whole month so I wouldn't suggest that. The Thursday & Fridays there will likely be education days which will have many school groups, but won't be as busy as when school is out for summer. You should be fine without a fast pass these days. Fridays generally will get busier in the afternoon as schools lets out however. Of course if it ends up busier than you're comfortable with as far as wait times, you can always get a past pass at the park. I wouldn't prepay for it. Just wait and see so you don't end up wasting $. I went in June last year while school was still in session and saw many people with fast pass and no lines were longer than 10-15 minutes (except Nighthawk was 30). I would have felt cheated, but to each their own if they want to waste it...lol Nah I obviously don't want to get one and was hoping to hear something like this. Thanks!
17. So now that I have moved to FL for grad school I am really gunna miss all the northeast parks BUT least I have easier access to a whole bunch of parks I've never been to! I also am taking a vaca back home in mid to late may, and want to stop at Carowinds along the way. Any advice? Given it's May is it safe to assume the park will be fairly empty especially if I go on a weekday? Worth getting a fast pass? Would like to do Fury much as possible, but if it may not be needed I'd prefer not to.
18. Last 2 I've committed early just to have school and/or finances get in the way. This year I'm far more confident I can make it, but I'll temper my excitement and just say for now Im glad WCB info is up and I look forward to more
19. HOLY CRAP. Only thing sicker than the ride is that music. That looks really awesome. I do love big coasters that have a focus on speed and forces/twists, though those airtime hills do not look shabby at all
20. Yeah, the airtime on WC is just nuts. Every ride I said "I'm going to count how many moments" and every time it totally slipped my mind on ride Shame about Bizarro, I'm quite mad at myself for waiting so long to finally get to this park, maybe it was better with the old restraints but these current ones just are not good, and I think they restrain the airtime. Again I can't know but it just had a weird feel to it, and the airtime itself felt kinda weird, restrained is the only way I can put it
21. Thats exactly how I felt. Give it another chance this season, I was left speechless. Couldn't believe it was the same ride. Oh wow! This is great news, I am finally going to Coney Island this year and was going to ride Thunderbolt regardless, but glad to know it won't give my brain trauma and a back re alignment now? I also liked the layout, but was kind of dreading it after hearing the complaints.
22. Awesome! It sounds like it may be opening up soon! I don't know why I've been so intrigued by this ride, I just love it's layout and that crazy drop. Can't wait for some POVs!
23. Goliath @ SFNE, my head still hurts a little bit and my back feels moderately misaligned
24. My trip report from SF:NE today! I got to SF:NE for opening and was very lucky that for the first hour the park was empty. The school groups didn't roll in until a bit later, and the first few spent some time congregating. I had 5 straight rides on Wicked Cyclone, all walk ons. It was glorious. I think I spent more time walking from the exit back to the entrance than actual waiting. Wicked Cyclone is awesome! It may be my new #1 coaster. It has it all: tons of ejector, the crazy elements, smooth and a great pace. Every great coaster either is lacking in one area, or has some issue (too intense, bad restraints, a little short etc) but not WC. The layout is perfect. There is not one wasted moment, no parts that feel weird or seem off, it has a hill, turn, barrell roll, turn, hill, crazy element, etc etc etc each element moves into the other one in a very balanced way, but it's not boring..isn't simply hills, turns and rolls, it's varied. It's quite literally a perfect layout. The first roll element is awesome, it throws you around a good bit, the second gives such a good blend of speed and hang time, while the final inversion really has some air time. I had one off ride, the airtime was much subdued and the second half was near devoid of it, felt a little slow by the end and tons of wheel screeching. This was just one though, every other was brilliant. Rode near the front, the back row and middle cars. All feel the same during the ride, but the first drop is truly epic in the back row. That is the way to go, though they were assigning rows so it was pure luck what I got. Wanting to take advantage of the empty park I hit up Bizarro next. Got two rides each on front row. First wait was 20 minutes, but due to a vomit situation it ended up being 45, and the other wait was 25 minutes. There was of course perpetual stacking, so I wonder how short it would've been without that. Bizarro is awesome, but I think I waited too long to finally ride it. By the time I finally rode last year I was a bit let down, but I think it may be because I've ridden Toro and Skyrush and I305. While I found Bizarro awesome, it had less intense airtime and forcefulness than those mentioned coasters. Also the restraints really are not good, but still a really great ride. Long, lots of airtime even if most of it was strong floater, and while I didn't grey out I got that weird feeling on the edge of my eye, like it was just on the verge of happening. A great ride and still top 10 for sure. Took a lunch break by this point, and WC had a brief downtime so I hopped on Thunderbolt, which is a fun lil ride. I also got one on NESS which previous comments were totally right about, way too short, I'm not even sure we were up there at all before we started descending. I went back to WC once I saw it running again and for a bit they were doing one train, which resulted in a 30 minute wait despite a pretty short line. Went back to two eventually and I nabbed two more rides, total of 8 for the day. I saw a pretty short line for Goliath so I hopped on, and lucked out that I was able to walk straight to the single rider line and basically I got a walk on. Goliath is...fun I think I do enjoy it, though more in the exhilarating/intense way a car crash would be. I never rode it with previous trains so I can't vouch for em, I didn't find these to give me the side to side head thrashing, in fact none at all, but I got a forward to back thrashing, and my back needed a re alignment after Still I'd say I like it and it's worth 1 ride. Due to prior obligations I had to bolt by then to make it back home, but the day was successful in achieving my marathoning of WC which really is damn amazing. I'll go again for sure.
