Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
JJLehto replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
That's what I figured. Sigh. And as we know, total scam. These l-o-c-k-e-r-s cost $ at CP? For our safety...I have been on the tallest, fastest, intense and airtime filled rides and only ever lost a phone once, ironically on Phoenix and my fault for having shallow pockets. Because of people trying to take vids/a way to make us buy lockers we have to deal with this now. So serious question, I bring just a wallet phone and keys. Is it worth just keeping them in zipped pockets, not drawing any attention to it, and going on line? That official CP line sounds like you could, but all you make it seem they like they may question you. This is good to know at least, better to prep then be caught off guard day of and extra annoyed -
Best Drop Ride!!!

I guess Lex Luthor at SFMM. It was big, fast and the feeling of a distant rumbling, then something loud woosh! by and the tower starts swaying 400 feet up...was one surreal feeling. -

Yeah thank god the Universal ones were free, it would've gone from super annoying to enraging. So CP charges for these lockers you have to use I assume? I didnt risk bringing anything on with me because they seemed intense, I mean had metal detectors in the lines, I figured zipped pockets would be fine and long as I'm not holding the phone or making it obvious they'd let it go/not notice. Now Im not sure I want to risk that. Such a pain. -
Ugh, so annoying. This is all new to me, this wasn't an issue 2 years ago. Anyone know what's caused this reaction parks? For all my life leaving stuff in bins in the station worked just fine. Was there an accident(s) or some event that caused em to no longer do this? Well I travel light at parks. Cell phone, wallet and keys are often all I'll carry. Seems I can keep these in a zipped pocket, which I always wear to parks now, so hopefully no issue and I wont need lockers.

Wonderful words Elissa, and beyond glad to hear CP resolved the issue in such superb fashion. I would expect nothing less, I may be a CP fan boy but for reasons like this. Glad all has worked out well. Lockers eh? So what is the deal with lockers now at CP? At Universal Studios they were a nightmare. Dont tell me CP is doing the mandatory locker at each ride thing. -
Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
JJLehto replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I'll start us off. I met a "coaster enthusiast in" line for Wild Eagle last month. He was from Cincinnati and bragged about riding Diamondback before anybody else when he worked for KI. Anyway, I told him I was from San Diego so we started talking about SWSD. I said "Those Mack trains on Manta are some of the most comfortable trains I've sat on" To which he replied "You know Manta is Intamin, right?" I said "I think you're mistaken. Mack's track does look similar to Intamins though, so I get the confusion." He concluded his thought with "I've been in the industry for 20 years, I know for a fact that Mack designed the ride and Intamin built the track and trains." Yeah, ok bud. Many of the things I've read or heard by enthusiasts are truly hilarious. In a way it's funnier than anything the "GP" could say, they just are casual park goers/don't know...the enthusiasts who do know and go on to debate fiercely the ugliness of a specific footer, or if turn 7 is really 2 turns or not etc etc is way worse to me. I don't even like the term GP but I do have to say, I had a dreadful experience with some true "GPers" recently. 2 days we got to the park, which opens at 9 am, at 1 and 1:30 PM. When there they were super slow, made weird decisions, (like want to rush to get to a ride, bypassing one I wanted to do with a 10 minute wait, we get there with 30 minutes until we can even enter our time period, "now what?" "Oh well lets just go in and wait" they say ) They just didn't really care, didn't care how late (due to slowness and just apathy) how slow they moved, how much time we wasted or what was missed. I get not everyone is crazy like us but we paid a lot of $ for these tickets! How can one just not care if you do like 4 rides? In terms of things said, besides "lets just wait in the building for 30 minutes doing nothing" some others were: "The shoulder restraints on that ride caused me to black out" Not sure how that's possible but also it was Hollywood RRR it had a lap bar -

I don't know how anyone who has ridden NTAG could feel that the MCBR takes off too much speed. Half the time you barely even know you're going through the MCBR (aside from the flat track) Of the 200+ times I've been on the coaster I've never felt the MCBR "grab." (You can tell from the POV below that the train flies through the MCBR!) I'm assuming New Mean Streak will be the same way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zTKtho3ZJI I'd not be surprised. Ya know enthusiasts...we can be a weird lot This is why I really shouldn't take what people say too seriously without experiencing I guess. I have no do doubt New Mean Streak will do it right. Hell the speed it's carrying may even warrant a bit of a slow down. If we believe the estimations people are putting out there, thing will be hauling ass -

Maybe they'll let us ride the part that's finished when we're there in 10 days? After all the horrible things I did in RCT, guess it's only fair -

Great pics! Assuming the MCBR doesn't kill off too much speed, (not ridden NTG but I've heard more than a few feel it scrubs off too much speed) this could easily be the baddest RMC yet. So glad the biggest will be at CP as it should be! -

Very sorry this happened to you. It's disgusting this happens at all but without getting to much into it, a lot of Americans still have a lot of progress to make. I don't think you overreacted at all. In fact you were willing to let it go and not let it ruin your time, but they were the ones to re open the situation. As for the bartender, I'd imagine in that position it's best to just ignore it, that way no need to "upset" that person (crappy as they are no one needs an angry person at a bar!). Seems the better way to handle things, I'll hope they just weren't thinking (I know they can have a ton on their plate) and aren't bigoted/OK with that type stuff. As for who to contact, sorry no idea. Just typing in Cedar Point guest relations brought up some phone numbers. Good luck to you! I'm sure the park gets a ton of responses constantly so I'd not be worried if they haven't responded yet. Do hope you get a hold of someone. -

I've always stayed at the Breakers OR the Breaker's Express right off the peninsula. Absolutely worth it in my opinion. You just can't beat being right there. Wake up, walk right over, that easy. If you need to duck in the hotel, it's right there, and the atmosphere of staying on the peninsula is awesome. 4 nights will be way more than plenty! I have not been in the new rooms, but I always had positive experiences with the Breakers. -

Oh wow, I am not familiar with it actually, I basically was off this site (and parks) for a year and a halfish as I moved to FL and started grad school, (life gets in the way of what matters ) please share again though, that sounds like a fascinating picture. Yeah I have only been in June twice, did seem a little whacky but 95% of the the time was fine weather wise. Bugs were pretty nuts, not an issue I had either in early May or Sept -

Yeah deff hoping the weather is good for early June, especially as I'm there just 1 day. Fickle is indeed the word for it, I recall at times it can go from "Well we need a boat to even leave this place" to blue and sunny an hour later. Let's hope the weather is A OK! I took for granted being able to go every year/when I feel like with little more effort than "anyone wanna go with?" and it was just a day's drive away. Hell the whole north was like that, I do now feel the pain of those who have to plan long in advance and anguish if the one chance will be rainy. Yes, emergency beers will be kept just in case -
What Was The Last Coaster You Rode?
JJLehto replied to SharkTums's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rock it at Universal Studios. Went in expecting little and was pleasantly surprised. It was faster, more forceful and had more pops of air than I expected. Long as you go through the MCBRs. 4/5 sailed through all. One held us at a dead stop and it did kinda ruin things. -

To be fair, a big part of this site is trip planning/expectations/tips etc it's always been a big help to me and ya know, it's important to have an idea of weather to be expected. That could potentially ruin a trip. Also not the be that guy but is a new comment every day about the next piece of lumber added or the next 1/10th of a turn installed that critical? I love coaster construction but not much changes every day...hate to say but while the pics are great they all look kinda the same to me. I'll not really check too actively for a few weeks and see progress then. tl;dr not much is happening with Mean Streak on a day to day basis what's to be excited about right now? -

Beyond stoked, especially given this thing may be realistically over 200 feet tall, (thank goodness for people with the time and care to make these estimates). I am curious if they will keep the MCBR in and if so, hopefully won't have too much bite and scrub off lots of the speed -
Hulk was torn down and completely replaced last year. It only reopened in August of 2016. It was a complete replacement there is new track, new supports, and new trains. Wasn't it just a new launch tunnel audio/visuals? As well as a new queue, maybe there were new trains but a complete tear down and replacement of the track? And if this was the case...they have severely screwed up because it was very rough, every non loop element thrashed me (and I'm good at holding myself straight to avoid it) and even the turns were rough. I was very excited for the ride and left with no want to ride again. If this is the result of their changes, yikes

What are your TOP TEN COASTERS
JJLehto replied to ddaver177's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
MForce was my #1`for 14 years. It's actually something that always made me chuckle with some enthusiasts...if it's not forceful/intense enough for some, not enough air or they dont like the layout or whatever, that's fine to each their own. But so many actively trash it...like it's some garbage joke and if you dare have it near your top you're just a CP fanboy I always thought rides like I305 or Skyrush which may be better are too intense/not as outright enjoyable. Took Wicked Cyclone to finally have that combo of more airtime, intensity but also smooth/super easy to ride with a great layout and pace. I actually think Fury may be better, and Lightning Rod seems like #1 material. Attempting to get to both this year but not lookin good -
So just got back from my first park in 2 years :O and it was Universal Studios and IoA. Have to say it was a really good time. Will do a full TR soon, but did wanna make a few quick notes. The lockers ugh Metal detectors in each line hope this has not become common to all parks Either I don't remember or Hulk has really gotten rough over these 15 years, that thing gave me some major head banging Dragon Challenge however, still super smooth and I actually enjoyed blue more Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit was much better than I expected. It was faster than I thought, the helices at both ends were more forceful than I expected, the pops of airtime and non inverting loop were all more than I expected. Mummy was unexpectedly fun as well, I actually got a surprising amount of airtime over the launched hill, and during another hill later. Didn't even know Escape from Gringotts was a coaster. Was also quite fun.

Stand-Up coasters= A failed concept?
JJLehto replied to fraroc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yeah, I'd say so. It's known that few are considered good, Riddler's Revenge, GA scorcher, maybe another one or two but the rest are widely believed to be meh if not poor. I personally have only ever enjoyed RR. Not a great track record. It was a neat concept and it certainly feels different, but since lots of sit down coasters are good, not like we need standers and when we start talking about improving the rides by eliminating the standing element, that should be a sign Mostly: The fact no new one has been built in nearly 20 years should really say it all. I'd call it a failed concept. -
Top/Favorite Hyper Coasters
JJLehto replied to boldikus's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Yes, I found it a fun ride. I don't NEED airtime, so that doesn't so much bug me it was pretty much the MCBR. I get it's necessary (though maybe too powerful) because the helix is already forceful and it'd be way more so without...but its soo soon. Shame there couldn't have been another (real) airtime hill or two and some turns, then into the MCBR and finale. It just kills all the speed, which is plenty of it. -

Thanks for the input everyone. I did take it into consideration, among other factors, and decided KW will indeed get a full day. Guess final question is: For a Saturday in early June, is there a recommended plan of attack? Ya know how the crowds flow/which gets most packed and when. Temptation is Phantom first, but with VR on Skyrocket I have to imagine that kills the load times Hmmmmm Conneaut only open Fri-Sun? Well that does throw a wrench in the plan. I am doing Waldameer on Thurs, (planning on a half day there) KW Saturday then fly out that night. CP is all day Friday so not sure I can fit it in. Which is fine, I really wanna try Blue Streak but I guess I can live without it.
