Hopefully they find something less stiff, like RMC steel topper track or a balls-deep steel I-box. People seem to think that's soft enough. -

I would commit to a TR, but I probably won't remember a lot of the details... -

If it's the one I remember, I remember the corn field one being pretty cool. It's usually pretty tough to get startled after I have as many beers as I do during our annual KI shit show Haunt trip, but we'll definitely check out all the mazes, as per usual. But... the kid has RSV, so we're not out of the woods as far as her being too sick for us to leave her, or us getting sick. I also don't want to leave her with our remaining aging parents, since we already lost two this summer due to not being able to breathe.... -

Serious problem, indeed. The "teens" I encountered in the city I worked as a LEO over the summer were more dangerous than older people with prior felony convictions for assault, gun offenses, and other violent crimes. The "kids" would pull AR rifles on soccer moms stopped in traffic and try to take their cars. The final straw for me leaving was watching surveillance video of one of several gun fights in a housing complex that looked like Call of Duty. Stolen cars and gunshots started becoming a common daily theme, especially during the weekends. I took 200 shell casings to the crime lab, just in one week, and those were the ones we actually recovered, being a fraction of the ones we didn't. The "kids/teens" we charged in July were all out by September, despite also shooting in crowded places. Maybe they'll set an example this time and hold them for four months instead of three. The suspect and others involved also know damned well who the other shooter was. I'm glad I took a pay cut to go to a much nicer community. Went from over twice the national crime average to half of the national crime average. I can sleep without prescription medication again... I say this because please, for your own safety, don't let your guard down just because you see what you perceive as a group of kids. They're more hardened than a lot of us will be in our lives and they won't hesitated to make you or your children victims. It's frightening. I wish I could take back what I know now. -

Oof. I thought an hour drive was bad. We used ours once when we stopped by for a few hours with the kid. HITP may not bring in as many people as a refurbished carousel, but I would imagine it was a factor in a lot of decisions for families to purchase passes. My in-laws were the same way. -

Killmart has always been great, because of the old school department store vibe. Pumped for our trip. -

I can say a large portion of our season pass purchases the past few years, especially this last one, was because of HITP. We actually said since we go to HITP every year, we could just buy the pass and stop in another time to make it worth it. We went to the park once this year. Get rid of the unruly crowds. Jack the prices up. Good with it. But, if you're not going to add anything new, at least fix the broken shit, or run down areas. Neither will be accomplished next year. -

The finished product is going to be amazing. People who don't even like theme parks will go for it. It will bring in crowds. It will be worth the wait. They're doing it all in house. It's a major project. There's only one guy doing it. -

How long will we play this game? Well, the answer is likely at least another year. Realistically? Probably more, because STSTL is rotting, apparently almost as much as Disney. -

I can see that. That, and people not really paying attention to the traffic directors feverishly waving people through who leave a ten car gap in between their car and the one in front of them. "This guy in the florescent traffic vest and cone is waving at me to go through a single lane. I don't know what to do!" For anyone who has never directed traffic, consider yourself lucky. A quarter of the driver's don't listen to you when you wave them through to go faster. A quarter of the driver's don't listen to you when you tell them to stop or change directions. The ones who don't change directions hold the line up by stopping, rolling down their windows, and saying, "Can I go through here?" It's not difficult by any means, but you just have to try to your best to turn your 'give a fucks' off and realize people are just going to do whatever they want to do, no matter what, until they cause an accident. It's frustrating. -
Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
prozach626 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for the TR. I always walked away from Holiday World feeling indifferent. The wooden coasters are unpleasantly rough, which is probably the perfect way to put it. I'm disappointed to hear about Gobber's Getaway being neglected. It was always one of my favorite dark rides, having a more unique themeing. I can't understand why parks have such a difficult time maintaining Sally rides, since they seem so analogue, especially the animatronics. Although some enthusiasts love HW, I think others leave feeling underwhelmed or indifferent, because it's geared more toward families. It's an affordable weekend getaway. It's a perfect park for families with pre-teens, in an area where there's not much else to do. -

Ah. Well, that explains the large crowds. Good to know we can expect SFSTL's to be down for eight years. The worst part about it being down was probably the limited offerings for other guests. You wouldn't think Disney would have tolerated an eyesore near other abandoned construction sights and halfway demolished rides. Who would have thought? -

Woah. Stay in your lane dude, because clearly you haven't seen the new façade on the bathrooms by JB's, or the new flowers planted. I'm also pretty sure Disney doesn't have a snow cone day. Last, and certainly not least, Disney doesn't have a historical carousel. -

The lines are bad after about 5. We've never had any problems during the day. I think the cutoff for entry is 6pm, so if you leave the park, get your ass back by at least 5 to be safe. We cut it close one year, after we left for dinner and beer. Finding a parking spot was also difficult. -

Probably more than you think, honestly. The majority of the shootings over the summer in the city I used to work for were from kids 15-17 years old, with no one over 18 in their crew. I know that's just one example, but the amount of large crowds of unsupervised kids being involved in violent crime is out of control. I'm not saying I don't get a lot of your points, though. -

This is a pretty typical construction start timeline for a spring opening and the crews look like they're hustling. Otherwise, why not just wait until November to start work when the park is closed, if they're aiming for 2024? We're all marketing experts here, but the best marketing strategy isn't always convenient with unforeseen circumstances like Dragster's. Something had to be done fairly quickly, regardless of what other 2023 plans were already in the works. I'm betting Spring 2023. -
