Overall impressions - We had fun. The park was absolutely slammed and the layout is odd for sure. It truly does feel like a water park with some rides randomly sprinkled about... the general layout and ride placements felt like a poorly planned out Planet Coaster creation haha. The operations weren't great but I've seen worse. I do love how every single major coaster here has the same standard operating procedure... first drop followed by a stupidly powerful airtime hill that tries it's best to yeet you off of the ride. I'm here for it. I'd be shocked if we ever went again, but it's hard to beat that out-of-state 2-day deal for $40 and I'm intrigued to see what Herschend does with the park. We were glad we stopped by.

You're definitely right about the weird layout. I'd like to see them add another crossing at the other end down by Lightning Run instead of just having the bridge and road cross walk up by the Enterprise ride area. My biggest thing with the park is the ops are always moving slowly no matter when you go. I agree about the area of Storm Chaser, it needs more developed b/c to me it's kind of a dead area considering it has one of the best coasters at the park. I'm really excited to see what Herschend will do. I think they will greatly improve everything as long as they can get along with the Fairboard.

  2. The report I read this morning was saying that the children couldn't undo the seatbelt which is understandable if you're panicking. It's a real tragedy about the child dying. It's really hard imagining a raft dipping down that much that it flips over. I'm thinking maybe instead of letting people get onboard and sit anywhere maybe spread out adults around the raft to try and balance it better.

  3. We were there on the 4th and it started off well in the morning but afternoon was packed. The water park was so crowded that we ended up setting our stuff down on some grass and rocks. The lines for the waterslides weren't bad but the lines waiting for tubes was very long. American Thunder was the best woody in the park. The Boss was fast but I had a hard time enjoying it because it was hurting my back a little bit. I wanted to ride American Scream which was open when we first got there but was closed in the afternoon after we gave up on the waterpark. The mine train was fun, loved the double down tunnel. I skipped Ninja, Pandemonium, and Batman. It was our first time visiting and loved that it was a small park so maybe we'll visit during the week sometime when it's not as crowded. I did like the all day dining plan for 35/person. All you can drink, 2 meals, and one snack was a pretty great deal. We ended up bailing early because we were all hot, tired, and didn't want to stand in lines anymore. I did see the infamous Turkey Leg and told my fiance about it and she was like why? They're just turkey legs... lol

Keep in mind with your planning that the Zoo and the City Museum both require reservations at the moment. Whether they will or not in July is anyone's guess but 4th of July weekend in Forest Park will be insane. The Cardinals are out of town which will help but if the VP fair goes on as usual at the Arch it will only compound the crowds. You will need to plan and I would make Zoo reservations early and plan on that taking up most of the day. The aquarium really only needs an hour or two, so you will have to decide if the money is worth it. It's not bad just really small and a "short" experience. Again depending on the status of the fair parking could be a nightmare all over downtown and there will be streets blocked off.

I have not heard if they have made a decision on how or if the fair will be conducted this year but that is crucial information to your plans. If it goes on downtown hotel rooms will be sold out for the whole weekend. And it will make every tourist spot way more crowded.

Thanks, will do. My fiancée found a rental cottage near the Zoo so we won't be staying downtown. I went to make reservations for Six Flags and the City Museum but still too far out so I'll check again in May. We're really looking forward to the trip.

  5. My fiancee and myself are planning a long weekend away with the kiddos (all teens) in St. Louis from July 2nd to July 5th. We were planning on doing Six Flags St Louis one day, the Zoo and Aquarium one day, and the City Musuem another day. I was thinking hitting up City Museum on the 5th as we're leaving town but wasn't sure about Six Flags how bad it could be on the 4th of July. I know with the Zoo I've been told to get there before it opens as it's usually busy, any tips for tourists would be appreciated.

Oh is it being retracked! I wanted to love Racer, I got a thing for that style, but even for me that thing was rough to near intolerable limits.

Oh I agree... I did the marathon the last GKTW held at KI and 8 hrs on the racer made me feel like I needed back surgery especially after so many bottom outs on the downside of the bunny hop right after the hill drop. I had a blast though.

My Dream scenario would be a chance hyper with a 160ish lift hill into a tunnel. I believe there are only a couple spots on the property that can have a ride that tall so they would have to get creative

What would be awesome is a 100 ft tall lift hill to make the FAA happy and then a 200 ft drop with a 100ft of it below ground, might need a chain or launch lift coming back up  but that would be awesome, not many coasters if any go 100 ft underground.

I’m hoping Herschend will at least be able to improve the park’s operations. When I visited KK in 2019, I though it was a good looking park with a great ride lineup, but operations left a bit to be desired. One train running on all coasters despite relatively long lines, and service was a bit slower than you’d expect. Overall, I expect Herschend to be a positive change for the park going forward, I look forward to seeing any improvements they make.

That's always been my biggest complaint about the park too, even though I live in L'ville I'd much rather go to Holiday World or Kings Island instead.

Isn't the land and rides actually owned by the State of Kentucky?

You would think if it was going to be sold, or if Herschend was going to take over the lease, then we would have heard about it by now. Also, why would the park need to tease the sale? Wouldn't they just announce it? A sale to Hershcend could explain the canceled raptor though.

I'm not saying its not happening, I'm just a little skeptical of the whole thing.

yes, the land is owned by the Fair Board. Whoever is managing the park pays a lease to the Fair Board, Six Flags felt the FB was being unfair and that's why the up and closed it. The reason why they didn't announce the Herschend take-over sooner is because it all had to go through governmental approvals beyond the Fair Board as well. I guess this is why the Raptor Coaster plans got scrapped. I've got mixed feelings, Herschend is a great family owned company but at the same time we saw how well things went when Ed sold to Six Flags. I did hear rumors of more events and more special things already being planned by Herschend so we'll see I guess.
