KING KONG ROARS TO LIFE IN GROUNDBREAKING NEW ATTRACTION

    Mike WestMike West | | May 6, 2015

Over the past 25 years, Universal Orlando has created some of the world’s most incredible entertainment experiences by combining emotional storytelling, timeless characters and innovative ride technologies. Today, we honor one of the most monumental figures in movie history, King Kong, with the announcement of a groundbreaking attraction opening in the summer of 2016 at Universal’s Islands of Adventure – “Skull Island: Reign of Kong.”

    Skull Island King Kong

You’ll navigate perilous jungles, explore ancient temple structures and encounter hostile natives – and that’s only the beginning. Throughout the rest of your excursion, you’ll brave foreboding caves crawling with prehistoric creatures, fend off unspeakable terrors – and even come face-to-face with the colossal Kong himself.

When we began conceptualizing the next great attraction for Universal Orlando Resort, one prevailing thought rose to the top of our minds. How do we make the experience MASSIVE? The sets, the characters and even the story itself. All of it will be larger than life.

The challenge is also to tell the next generation of the Kong legend, all while delivering an unparalleled, revolutionary theme park experience guests have come to expect from Universal. We have done exactly that with Reign of Kong – you’ll be pulled into a powerful, intense fight for survival as you discover a side of the iconic beast that has never been revealed…until now.

  2. Here's my two cents on this...

    WOW!

First off, this is finally a step in the right direction for SeaWorld which will sure attract many people being the Tallest and Fastest in Orlando and by being at least 200ft in height. It will sure draw more attention to the park and hopefully the negativity will cease.

While I can't wait for this roller coaster to open already...I have to hope that in the future SeaWorld will at least add a roller coaster aimed at families. They have Kraken and Manta and now this new one that seems to be for thrill-"sea"kers (sea what I did there?). Journey to Atlantis (if you count that as a coaster) is the real only family coaster. Antarctica is a family attraction but seems to have fallen short in terms of the ride experience. I feel that their next step will have to be a family coaster of some sort to bring "everyone" in.

In regards of the roller coaster type, I'm sure it will be amazing! I honestly don't care what it will be as it already sounds promising! I mean how can a 200ft coaster be boring? Let the announcements come!

    GO SEAWORLD!!!

  3. So from watching the webcams this morning before the park opens for the day, I see that Fury testing without riders and in the morning...appears to look a lot slower than it does from a full train of riders in the afternoon. Either way, I'm sure it is still a great experience whether it be riding first thing in the morning or the afternoon.

  4. For me, in all honesty, I actually like the color schemes of Tempesto and Apollo's Chariot. I don't mind them. I don't like judging roller coasters by their colors...but rather the ride experience itself after I have ridden it. Perhaps this isn't the best location...perhaps this isn't the Busch standard...perhaps their announcement on Tempesto wasn't the greatest...perhaps would you rather have nothing? I'm looking forward to riding a great looking launch coaster next time I visit BGW!

  5. Another issue I see is that Grad Bash starts at Universal soon or maybe it has started. But teenagers love to ride roller coasters and Rockit and Hulk are going to be the must-rides of the night besides checking out the new Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express. I feel like there will be lines for the lockers if it gets to that point as every teen will most likely ride one of these that night. Also, every teen has their phone on them 24/7 so if the wait is an hour...that will be very upsetting to teenagers. I always wear my shorts that either have cargo pockets or have zipper pockets.

  6. I haven't seen any post on this yet...but how is that weird turnaround sideways thingy right before the tunnel? That part looks intense and might provide a weird feeling maybe? I'm curious how this element is because it just looks so crazy!

Last time I was at Carowinds it was when Intimidator opened in 2010. I definitely need to make a visit to this park again!

  8. This is really annoying. Last time I was at Universal was in February and when I went to Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, it wasn't just people telling you to put everything away in a locker...it was the consistent YELLING that drove me insane. The ride attendants were all extremely rude! My next day at Hulk had the same exact issue! This is extremely annoying. Ya they opened up Diagon Alley and lots of great additions lately...but I do miss those days when Dueling Dragons were DUELING and getting into the queue of a ride was EASY.

  9. Typhoon Lagoon! It is a very peaceful atmosphere. I'd get to this park before the opening and head to Crush N Gusher. Hit all three of those quickly and then go to the Shark Tank! VERY AWESOME EXPERIENCE to snorkel at a water park and feels so natural. Then head over to Humungakowabunga. After that go back through the entrance to Humungakowabunga and before you climb the final staircase to the top of Humungakowabunga, head to the pathway to the left and take that pathway over to the Family Raft slide. After doing that you can hit the two single tube slides. After that go back over to the other side and do the 3 body slides. I usually get all of these slides done in an hour or so if I follow that plan. Then I have the rest of the day to relax!!!

  10. It seems that there is a lot in store for the future of Busch Gardens even though it seems that SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has taken a hit recently. I'm hoping that this will be a nice family coaster that has a really good indoor section! But the future looks bright! Falcon's Fury last year, Colossal Curl at Adventure Island this year, possible new coaster with indoor section next year, the really large Gwazi site, and the area that used to hold the Critter Castaway show!
