  1. ^Yes. The audience reported "50-foot" fall was only what they were able to see in view. They couldn't see the rest of her fall into the pit which is another 30-40 feet deep.

The company had a meeting at 5:30 p.m. last Sunday and word from that was that her wire did snap. However this won't be officially confirmed until the police investigation is finished.

I'm not sure what's gonna happen with that "Battlefield" scene but honestly I don't see them performing it again unless they install some kind of netting or airbags as a secondary safety shield.

Also, Sarah was a trapeze artist in the Toon Circus Parade at Disneyland Paris about a decade ago. Everyone there at DLP that worked with her are absolutely devastated.

  2. ^Stranger things have happened. But from what I've heard, it sounds as if Mach Tower is working pretty reliably as of now.

Mach Tower is not reliable. A few weeks ago a cable snapped and had to be replaced and it broke down again last Thursday and has yet to reopen.

Also, according to the park's website, Europe In The Air is closed for the remainder of the season. No explanation has been given regarding its closure.

  3. I wonder if the record heat in Las Vegas was a factor -- it's easy for heat to disorient someone, even someone who was expert at the safety equipment. Being outside in that sort of temperature is likely to have deleterious effects later in the day, even if the auditorium was cooled with lots of air conditioning. One of the articles I read about the heat wave said there was some sort of outdoor concert going on in Las Vegas that resulted in a lot of people getting sick from the heat.

I don't think heat was a factor. The show performs weekly from Tuesday through Saturday and they do two performances each night at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. This incident happened at the end of the 9:30 show which means she did the one before that without problems. She has been with this production for many years now so she was well-adjusted to the climate there. Also, the Cirque theatres have impeccable climate control for the audience and for cast members and crew. They even simulate a blizzard inside the theatre during one of the show's scenes.

From what I've been hearing from people within the company they are saying that this seems like some rigging malfunction with her wire and harness however that has yet to be confirmed until the investigation is done.

  4. This is awful news. She is friends with a really good friend of mine. In addition to being a performer she ran Cirquefit Las Vegas which is a program of classes and camps focused on physical fitness blended with circus skills. My friend's daughter took classes from her as well.

Here's a pic of her teaching tightwire.

And here is a pic of her in one of her KÀ costumes with two students.

  5. Looks like things are slowly coming to life in Vegas. Maybe in the next year we will see some work start up on those stalled projects.

Things are slowly coming back to life in Vegas. Summerlin Centre, another stalled project (off strip), will restart construction this summer and open in the latter half of 2014.

Also, many banks have stopped selling foreclosures as the housing market is picking back up.

  6. I hear all three were shut down for inspection, not sure if the other 2 ever reopened. I won't be visiting any of them, ever. I doubt this one will reopen, and if it does it will struggle. 80+ people is a lot.

The Henderson and Sahara locations are open. However, after the outbreak at the Paradise location, The Sahara location received 30 demerits and a "C" grade which they remedied the following day. The Henderson location received an "A" grade with very few demerits.

I'd still be weary eating at the other locations.

This is sad because the owner is a great chef but he apparently doesn't know how to run a restaurant.

  7. And the suspense is over . . . congratulations to the winner!

WINNER ANNOUNCED FOR BUSCH GARDENS’ LANDSCAPING GIVEAWAY

Busch Gardens Landscaping Pros Headed to North Carolina

WILLIAMSBURG (March 25, 2013) – Busch Gardens® landscaping experts are hitting the road to bring the awe-inspiring beauty of the park to North Carolina. Busch Gardens announced Tammy Bennett from Washington, N.C., the winner of the first-ever Busch Gardens’ Landscaping Giveaway. Bennett’s prize is a yard landscaping package that includes consultation services from Busch Gardens’ horticultural professionals, landscaping and gardening supplies and landscaping installation.

“I am so excited and cannot wait for them to get started. Busch Gardens has the most beautiful flowers and gardens. Every time we go, I wish my yard would look like that,” said Bennett after learning she won the landscaping giveaway.

Busch Gardens announced the giveaway in early March via its Facebook page - facebook.com/buschgardens. Entries poured in from the Southern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Participants submitted a photo of their home and a story about why they deserved to win the Busch Gardens’ Landscaping Giveaway. After reviewing hundreds of submissions, Busch Gardens narrowed the landscaping giveaway submissions down to 20 finalists. According to Bennett’s submission, she purchased her dream home right after receiving a kidney transplant; her husband was her kidney donor. The Bennett family hoped to fix up their home right after purchasing it, but due to medical and financial hardships they had to put their dream on hold.

“We have been living here 6 1/2 years, this house was in foreclosure and it was a mess. There were trees and bushes growing into the side of our house and into the attic, we had to rip them all down. The lawn had not been mowed in a year, so it was pretty much knee high and mostly weeds. With all the money we spent on the inside of the house, we just never could afford to do the outside or any landscaping projects,” said Bennett.

After announcing the finalists, Busch Gardens invited its Facebook fans to cast their vote for their favorite finalist. Bennett received more than half of the 43,000 votes cast for the giveaway. Later this spring, the Busch Gardens team will visit the Bennett home to install the landscaping.

For 22 consecutive years Busch Gardens has won the “Most Beautiful Park” award from the National Amusement Park Historical Association.

BGW's Facebook just posted video of the transformation. They did a great job!

  8. ugh. . .

the head is telling me -- "you won't be in the room THAT much"

    LOL. . I'm a little scared!

    I'm scared for you!

  9. Alegria was our first tent show, in 2003. This was FINALLY happening, nearly 20 years after their first and only appearance at our world's fair, in 1986! Needless to say, EVERYBODY bought tix and I think they sold out in less than a couple of days, which for it's time very unusual for our city and anything 'cultural', lol!

I have a friend that was a performer in Alegría at that time and if I recall correctly the Vancouver and Calgary runs were two of the fastest selling touring shows in the company's history. The entire five-week Calgary run sold out in a matter of hours which was their fastest selling touring show ever. And I believe that record still stands.
